You're welcome. Happy to be of service. But I'm curious, why on Earth would we respect those who drove our economy into a ditch, committed numerous war crimes/crimes against humanity/violations of the Constitution/ etc?
Well thats a good question. The economy is terrible because both partys caused this issue. May I remind you of bill clinton ordering financial institutions to give out loans that people were unable to afford. Then the republicans didn't do anything to stop it. I am willing to accept blame for my party, but not all the blame. As for the war crimes, water boarding a few radicals is a small price to pay to keep you and me both safe. Hope you have a great night, Thanks for you intrest in my views!!!
I very much appreciate the statement "Then the republicans didn't do anything to stop it" because many people like to go over Clinton's actions before, for instance, 9-11, without ever mentioning that Bush sat around twiddling his thumbs in the months beforehand. So I give you points for honesty.
Thanks for your continued intrest in my opinion. I must disagree with you, Bush was not at fault for 911. The transition for bush and clinton was not smooth. Bush was not solely responsible considering the attacks were planned and going into effect throughout the clinton years. Regardless of what people say Bush was not pefect, but he does deserve fairness and he was not in office long enough to make major strides in protecting americans against the attacks. He did what he could.
Had Western Europe been attacked by the Warsaw Pact in September 1981, Ronald Reagan could have legitimately claimed "I was worried about our military strength and was in the process of building it up." Can Bush say anything similar about how he was trying to head off the anticipated attack by bin Laden? 'Fraid not. The 9-11 Commission detailed many warnings that the Bush Administration received, they documented absolutely nothing that Bush did in a pro-active way. Sorry, but I give Bush an "F"
There are things that Bush and Clinton could have done better (mostly clinton). Take some responsibility for your partys faults. I am willing to admit the republican party have their faults but placing all of the blame on some one who was in office a few months is not fair. His transition out was classy and respectable. Clinton was not helpful to Bush. I appreciate your opinions but please take responsibility for your partys faults because they are there!!!!
I thought I had, but yeah sure, Clinton could have done better and there are areas where his performance could have been improved. Y'see, I was a sailor for about a decade. The offgoing Officer of the Deck owes the oncoming OOD a complete passdown. After that, he goes down to his cabin and goes to sleep. It's not his job anymore and the new OOD is 100% responsible for what happens next. Clinton DID do a proper passdown. Clinton talked to Bush and Clarke talked to Rice. Clinton - B, Bush - F
Further thought: If America gets attacked tomorrow, would Obama be to blame? Yes, absolutely, no two ways about it. If we have an economic crash, is he to blame? The economy is like an oil tanker, it's hard to get moving and hard to steer, so it takes time for policies to take effect. But if he were to just say "Hey, it's not my fault, I blame Bush," that would be unacceptable. Oh, and when I said I thought I had made my point clearly, I re-read what I wrote and I hadn't. My bad.
Pat, you musn't try too hard to equivacate your opinions in order to try to sound "reasonable" to folks like rich and the like. These folks live in a dream world of bitterness and hate. They don't have the intellectual honesty to have protested Clinton's military actions and multitudeness other scandals. To them, history began on Jan. 20,2001. They inhabit a pathetic alternate universe where facts, truth and reason do not exist. If the dems had the goods on Bush he'd been impeached...
Most radicals with a brain that still functions mature by age 49, Richie. Time to put the bong down, back away, cut the thin grey pony tail, burn the tye-died shirts and realize that the 60's ended a long time ago and what you are is a sad, sad relic of a bygone era. Sarah Palin has more dignity, intelligence and class than all of you hippies put together. Radical peacenicks, PETA, CodePink and the like are simply a means for homely women, chronic pot smokers, and spoiled brats feel important.
So I'm curious, where do you stand on the Meaghan McCain- Laura Ingraham fight? As a partisan Democrat, I'm of course behind Ingraham as we absolutely love it when the Republicans are seen as nasty, mean and divisive. Natcherly, as a person, I'm behind McCain as she's a reasonable person. As Maggie Thatcher said of Mikhail Gorbachev "We can do business with him."
Laura is correct. The double standard is APALLING when it comes to conservatives and liberals. It defies logic (except to you all of course) how it is that one comment about being "plus size" and a "useful idiot" can be blown up sooo big, and the PRESIDENT can mock Special Olympians and just have it swept under the rug, for just one example. This is one example why I don't respect most of your kind, there is ZERO intellectual honesty or consistentcy. Reason has been left at the door...
The President and I both agree that his comment about Special Olympics was inappropriate and he apologized within an hour of the interview. Ingraham defended her "plus size" remark by merely claiming that "I didn't call her fat!" That's what we call a "distinction without a difference." Like I said, we can work with people like McCain to get good legislation through, Ingraham represents the side that reminds people of why Republicans are now in the minority.
McCain lost to a teleprompted empty suit is because HE was a "distinction without a difference". The fact that he is liked by your comrades is another reason why he couldn't get the support he needed. "Plus size" is as harmless a remark as there possibly can be. Thin-skinned whining has crossed party lines. When Republicans act like conservatives they win elections (i.e. 1984, 1994, 2000, 2004). Reagan was the greatest president of my lifetime! (Horrors!) List of dem hatespeech coming soon...
LIBERAL LUNACY ON PARADE. I await your condemnation Rich...Cameron Diaz declared that rape might be legalized if women didn't turn out to vote for John Kerry. Bill Moyers, "I think there'd be an effort to mount a coup, quite frankly. The right wing is not going to accept it." Harry Belefonte, "Colin Powell is permitted to come into the house of the master, as long as he will serve the master according to the master's dictates." THE SILENCE FROM THE LEFT WAS DEAFENING! More to follow...
The Most Reverand Jesse Jackson, "All Hymie wants to talk about, is Israel; every time you go to Hymietown, that's all they want to talk about." Daily Kos after Tony Snow announced his cancer had returned,"The world would be better off without him." Richard Dawkins, atheist author, "Religion saps the intellect' and belief in God is a 'mind-virus." Hward "Marbles" Dean, You think the RNC could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here. More...
PBS's Nina Totenberg: "If there is retributive justice Jesse Helms will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it." Julianne Malveux on Clarence Thomas "I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease." Evan Thomas, Newsweek on Paula Jones, "Some sleazy woman with big hair coming out of the trailer parks." When WE hear this stuff, we shake our heads and say "Whatever". More...
Again, there is nary a peep from you and your buddies when it is liberals spewing their vile jargon. You guys have to twist words, defy logic, site "inferences" that just aren't there, when you "perceive" even the smallest of slights. Then you make speeches from the floor of Congress, write editorials, appear on the Sunday shows, gin up "anger", basically cry like babies. This is why you will always be on the "fringe". Show me and America some integrity and CONDEMN THIS HATE! Waiting..
Well, Colin Powell DID lose all credibility after his little show'n'tell at the UN. The comment made at Daily Kos was by an anonoymous commenter, not one of the regular writers. Republicans ARE pretty much an all-white party. When it comes to televising conventions, Democrats don't have to make any special effort to highlight their non-white and/or female members.
But yes, I get a bit jaded because I moderate comments for a political website and I think over the course of an average month, I probably run across about as many conservatives saying things that are equally vile about our side. Yes, I condemn that kind of language and I think most of my buddies feel the same way.
I guess you gave it your best shot, but equivocation while meekly "condemn(ing)" the examples I cited doesn't strike me as a picture of decency. Again, there arenumerous examples of not only liberal hate speech, but possible crimes which democrats have commited which generate nary a peep from you all, especially liberals in leadership positions and the media. The Reagan, aka Ingraham, Palin, Medved, Coulter, Krauthammer, Levin "wing" is who will pick up the pieces left by this current pres.
We'll have to agree to disagree on that, because I don't see anything weak or equivocal about what I said. "Pick up the pieces" eh? Erm, that's precisely what Obama is doing, fixing the mess left by 28 years of Republican and Republican-lite misrule.
I sincerly hope I am wrong, but common sense and growing numbers of people around the world are basically saying that Obama's policies are throwing gas on the fire. Nobody, no country has ever spent it's way out of debt! This guy will be a one-termer along the lines of Jimmy Carter and God willing there will be another Reagan to move in and pick up the pieces. Republican-lite is right on the money. It won't take a Republican to clean up, but a Conservative, regardless of the party...
I've given my local newspaper an extremely hard time about the fact that they've completely and utterly failed to explain the economic theories behind how we got into the current mess and how Obama plans to get out of it. "Debt" has absolutely nothing to do with anything. "Gas on the fire"?!?! There is no fire. This is a general, traditional-media-wide problem. Paul Krugman is a good source to start with for really understanding the problem.
The main argument made at the end of the 2008 campaign was that McCain was going to run a "3rd Bush term." A majority of Americans said "OMG!!! No! No!" But you think the "Ingraham wing" is gonna win, eh? And yes, I'm fully capable of distingushing rudeness from people "calling me out" for hypocrisy. There IS a difference and I'm fully aware of it.
Again, one finger pointing at us while there are four pointing at yourselves. 500 character max is ont nearly enough to show you the irony of that remark by showing you examples of the countless occasions of the vile comments your DEAR LEADERS have said regarding conservatives. Show some integrity and condemn those and you will have my respect. Both McCains won favor with the "Establishment" by smacking members of their own party. McCain was the worst presidential candidate since Bob Dole...
I'm not really that concerned about rudeness as I've put up with plenty of it from right-wingers, but if you can specify any inaccuracies, I'd like to know about them.
Don't whine Richie...I only ask for SOME EVIDENCE OF INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY! As of now, you have completely avoided my challenge. All of your charges are "inaccuracies" inasmuch as your foaming at the mouth democratic leaders never tried to impeach or otherwise prosecute Bush and Co, because as much as they hate Bush THEY DO NOT HAVE GROUNDS. Rudeness? If calling out your hypocrisy is rude, guilty as charged.I guess the truth hurts huh? You all have to get a life, you and the New Establishment.
History did not begin on Jan 20, 2001. I love George Bush because he kept this country safe for 8 years after 9/11 when no one on 9/12 thought this was possible. Domestic policy wise, he could be a wussy by my standards. McCain was Wussy-squared, and that why you guys like(d) him.
You guys have been wrapped up in being "radical" that you have become part of a brand new "Establishment" where "conventional wisdom" deviates from history and the facts. Scary indeed...
Bush & Cheney have both claimed many times that their "enhanced interrogations" and warrantless wiretapping prevented further attacks. Investigative reporters have queried their sources and have come up with zero evidence that supports these claims. It was clear on 9/12 that 9/11 was a one-time unrepeatable feat. Unlike Japan in '41, al Qaeda had no army or navy to follow it up with.
I don't know which "sources" you refer to, but according to the military and the CIA (HORRORS) enchanced interrogations (not torture) and wiretapping provided valuable info that stopped numerous attacks, including attempts to hijack planes in Britain and Indonesia and repeat 9/11. At least you don't say 9/11 was an inside job, or do you? Wiretapping, approved by Congress. "Enhanced interrogations", permitted by the Geneva Convention, which by the way does not apply to terrorists...
The CIA is desperate to convince everyone that their interrogations are lawful/necessary because otherwise they're now complicit in war crimes. Their testimony is very highly self-interested. 9-11 an inside job? Nah. Originally, the Geneva Coventions did not cover non-regular combatant, but later protocols do indeed cover them. Again, Congresspeople have their own agendas. I don't trust ANY politicians. They need our guidance and direction.
Waterboarding, sleep deprivation and other "enhancements" we employed during the war do not constitue torture. I do think we have found an area of agreement, namely, distrust of politicians. I do have respect for some but not many. It is a HUGE leap to be shifty or even dishonest, to being a war criminal. Being a musician, I have many friends that differ from me in that they are against ALL wars. Not just wars started by Bush & Congress. They have my respect because they are consistent.
As usual, you and other conservatives hugely understate what was done to captives in American custody. If you had read Jane Mayer like Cacoune & I suggested, you'd know better, but obviously, you were too lazy to even look up her work. Keep your respect.
I HAVE read articles by Ms. Mayer and I feel the same. Even if 100% true, it does not cause me shame for my country or it's leaders. These are the same people that have beheaded, tortured, and massacred in the name of "the religion of peace". They would kill me, you and everyone else hereif they had a chance. I hope it never happens but if they do get a nuke or come upon some bio or chemical weapons and use them on us, you just might wake up to what we face. The US is not the enemy...
I'm glad to hear you actually did read Mayer. That was left unclear before. Is the US "the problem"? The more constructive question is "Is this the best way to handle the problem of dealing with evil people?" (No, I don't doubt that al Qaeda people are evil) Certain US tactics are the problem (Whether Bush & Co adopted them because they're evil or genuinely confused, I'll leave that up to history to judge) Torturing suspects is hugely counterproductive and should stop yesterday.
The video was gone? try again. it works perfectly for me. Sometimes when too many people watch it at the same time. this may happened. Also you may click on "watch in high quality"
I got the same feeling watching this video. Where have all the people been since the sixties. Bush should have been impeached years ago. Let's hope our voices are heard this time.
Oh, ple-e-e-zzz! The country has been under the control of Reagan, a Republican, the elder Bush, a Republican, Clinton, a Republican-lite, and the younger Bush, a Republican! Congress has been Republican for most of that time. It was Republican policies that got us into this mess! Fannie and Freddie were important, but Democratic votes for those two were NOT what sunk the American ship! Had Republicans felt F&F were a bad idea, Democratic backing would have been irrelevant.
The idea that a few Democrats made the critical difference during a time when Republicans controlled the Presidency, the House and the Senate was ludicrous to begin with, but the blog firedoglake has a piece by looseheadprop on Barney Frank and F&F. The "turmoil in financial markets clearly was triggered by a dramatic weakening of underwriting standards for U.S. subprime mortgages, beginning in late 2004 and extending into 2007,"
Again taking my hard earned dollar and giving it to a lazy bum isnt right. second please go get educated on this before you make a bad decision. You can blame all you want but the truth is in the pudding. Freddie fanny would have been stopped 3 yrs ago I have the document right here on myspace page if it werent for obama and his cronies not voting it dwn
i AM DONE TRYING TO GET YOU TO UNDERSTAND. ITS A TAX HIKE AFTER HE ALLOWS THE CURRENT TAX BREAK EXPIRE. I URGE YOU TO THINK AND BE SMART HERE SOCIALISM IS NOT THW WAY TO GO. JUST BECAUSE ALOT OF BS HAPPEN DURING BUSH YEARS DOESNT MEAN ITS ALL HIS FAULT. DEMS IN CONGRESS HAVE DONE IT TO.
Yes, what Obama is proposing IS a tax hike. It's just that a tax hike is necessary after Bush's wild spending sprees and his racking up of the national debt to sky-high levels.
Socialism was indeed a failure, but Republican conservatism or "crony capitalism" is ALSO a failure and also needs to be tossed onto the scrap-heap of history.
And no, between Bush's vetoes and the Blue Dog Dems, the Republicans have been able refuse any real bipartisan compromises for the last eight years.
Again redistrubution of wealth is not the answer. He just told a plumber in ohio thats what hes doing. Verbatem look it up right out of his own lips. Socialist agenda and America is wakening up and guess what in the great words of the rolling stones you cant always get what you want. Thats my message to Nobama
What Obama actually said was that he'd raise the rate on those making in excess of a quarter-million from 36% to 39%. This is hardly unreasonable seeing as Bush has cut taxes to the point where the US is no longer on a "pay as you go" plan and as expenditures under Bush vastly increased so that he could pay off all of his corporate buddies.
Frankly, after three Republican presidents and a "Republican lite" president (Clinton), I'm ready for a change! I'm ready to dump the old ideas.
So thats what a reason. All I can do is say go research your candidate then make a choice November fourth. When you research make sure its not biased and the source is sighted and backed with the facts. I think you may be surprsised. I vote for mccain and palin. I was originaly for Romney and hes not there so I was forced to make another choice based on my research.
Notice what I said above. I DID research what Obama's Illinois Senate positions were and I know the issues well enough to say that I think he's taken marvelous positions. His positions on Free Trade are informed by the fact that FT is not, never was and never will be a purely financial/economic issue. He wants to bring many more considerations into negotiations.
And not to get all, y'know, elitist and intellectual on y'all, but an "unbiased source" is what literary folks refer to as a "chimera." It'd be nice to have, but it doesn't exist. When searching for the truth in political matters, one must learn to weigh and balance and yes, knowing a bit of history doesn't hurt, either.
How about this you study. Go to the illinois senate website and you tell me one good thing he voted for?? Second go to the united states senate vote again voted present over 130 times and hes for abortion and the BAIPA he voted against and Im the uneducated one. You watch to much CNN MSNBC!!!
One good things? JUST one? Dude, there are DOZENS to choose from! I LOVED his views on Free Trade and Homeland Security, for instance!
"hes for abortion" - In other words, he doesn't believe that women should spend their lives barefoot and pregnant, slaving over a hot stove and not having any kind of life of their own. Yeah, President Bush is "pro-life," except for the fact that he started the Iraq War, which has killed Iraqis in the hundreds of thousands.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I see the economy tanking further with your socialized agenda. The thing is what you people dont realize our country thrived through the years of our founding fathers in a free world. They would roll in their grave if they knew what was going on now. Our constution was not written the way you guys are trying to rewrite it.Big gov equals less jobs less business and less production. Libs created Nafta and that has cost alot of jobs but see you have been brain washed just because you dont like war
Hey ash4122...do some homework, pops. Look no further than your pal Ronald Reagan for starting the whole deregulation of the banking industry. Look to Newt Gingrich for authoring NAFTA and other shithead trade deals. Look to Bush for attacking our Constitution and committing war crimes and impeachable offenses. Look to McCain for being a GOP stooge who denounced his country many times while in Vietnam. He is no war hero. He graduated 894th out of 899 in his class at the Naval Academy.
Bwah-hah-hah-hah!!! OUR "socialized agenda"?!?!?! Republican have been running roughshod over the American people and jumping up and down upon our precious Constitution with muddy, hobnailed boots and it's liberals with their agendas that are the problem?!?!?!
Dude, dude, dude, you seriously need to learn sme history.
ash4122 ,Time for you to study the history of your own country! But I will give this: YES,our founding fathers would roll in their graves if they knew what's going on now! A war based on LIES, a President who has spit on our constitution more than once, a McCain/Palin duo who incite hatred by telling monstrous lies about Obama. Want more? stop watching FOX NEWS!
Great video. Several groups are protesting against "the witch of Wasilla" up in Alaska and want to have her impeached. She won't need to keep an eye on Russia anymore because after the election both her and McCain will need to move across the maritime border over to Russia.

Waiting..
jimistreets 2 years ago
Well, Colin Powell DID lose all credibility after his little show'n'tell at the UN. The comment made at Daily Kos was by an anonoymous commenter, not one of the regular writers. Republicans ARE pretty much an all-white party. When it comes to televising conventions, Democrats don't have to make any special effort to highlight their non-white and/or female members.
rich2506 2 years ago
But yes, I get a bit jaded because I moderate comments for a political website and I think over the course of an average month, I probably run across about as many conservatives saying things that are equally vile about our side. Yes, I condemn that kind of language and I think most of my buddies feel the same way.
rich2506 2 years ago 2
I guess you gave it your best shot, but equivocation while meekly "condemn(ing)" the examples I cited doesn't strike me as a picture of decency. Again, there arenumerous examples of not only liberal hate speech, but possible crimes which democrats have commited which generate nary a peep from you all, especially liberals in leadership positions and the media. The Reagan, aka Ingraham, Palin, Medved, Coulter, Krauthammer, Levin "wing" is who will pick up the pieces left by this current pres.
jimistreets 2 years ago
We'll have to agree to disagree on that, because I don't see anything weak or equivocal about what I said. "Pick up the pieces" eh? Erm, that's precisely what Obama is doing, fixing the mess left by 28 years of Republican and Republican-lite misrule.
rich2506 2 years ago
I sincerly hope I am wrong, but common sense and growing numbers of people around the world are basically saying that Obama's policies are throwing gas on the fire. Nobody, no country has ever spent it's way out of debt! This guy will be a one-termer along the lines of Jimmy Carter and God willing there will be another Reagan to move in and pick up the pieces. Republican-lite is right on the money. It won't take a Republican to clean up, but a Conservative, regardless of the party...
jimistreets 2 years ago
I've given my local newspaper an extremely hard time about the fact that they've completely and utterly failed to explain the economic theories behind how we got into the current mess and how Obama plans to get out of it. "Debt" has absolutely nothing to do with anything. "Gas on the fire"?!?! There is no fire. This is a general, traditional-media-wide problem. Paul Krugman is a good source to start with for really understanding the problem.
rich2506 2 years ago
The main argument made at the end of the 2008 campaign was that McCain was going to run a "3rd Bush term." A majority of Americans said "OMG!!! No! No!" But you think the "Ingraham wing" is gonna win, eh? And yes, I'm fully capable of distingushing rudeness from people "calling me out" for hypocrisy. There IS a difference and I'm fully aware of it.
rich2506 2 years ago
Again, one finger pointing at us while there are four pointing at yourselves. 500 character max is ont nearly enough to show you the irony of that remark by showing you examples of the countless occasions of the vile comments your DEAR LEADERS have said regarding conservatives. Show some integrity and condemn those and you will have my respect. Both McCains won favor with the "Establishment" by smacking members of their own party. McCain was the worst presidential candidate since Bob Dole...
jimistreets 2 years ago
I'm not really that concerned about rudeness as I've put up with plenty of it from right-wingers, but if you can specify any inaccuracies, I'd like to know about them.
rich2506 2 years ago
Don't whine Richie...I only ask for SOME EVIDENCE OF INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY! As of now, you have completely avoided my challenge. All of your charges are "inaccuracies" inasmuch as your foaming at the mouth democratic leaders never tried to impeach or otherwise prosecute Bush and Co, because as much as they hate Bush THEY DO NOT HAVE GROUNDS. Rudeness? If calling out your hypocrisy is rude, guilty as charged.I guess the truth hurts huh? You all have to get a life, you and the New Establishment.
jimistreets 2 years ago
History did not begin on Jan 20, 2001. I love George Bush because he kept this country safe for 8 years after 9/11 when no one on 9/12 thought this was possible. Domestic policy wise, he could be a wussy by my standards. McCain was Wussy-squared, and that why you guys like(d) him.
You guys have been wrapped up in being "radical" that you have become part of a brand new "Establishment" where "conventional wisdom" deviates from history and the facts. Scary indeed...
jimistreets 2 years ago
Bush & Cheney have both claimed many times that their "enhanced interrogations" and warrantless wiretapping prevented further attacks. Investigative reporters have queried their sources and have come up with zero evidence that supports these claims. It was clear on 9/12 that 9/11 was a one-time unrepeatable feat. Unlike Japan in '41, al Qaeda had no army or navy to follow it up with.
rich2506 2 years ago
I don't know which "sources" you refer to, but according to the military and the CIA (HORRORS) enchanced interrogations (not torture) and wiretapping provided valuable info that stopped numerous attacks, including attempts to hijack planes in Britain and Indonesia and repeat 9/11. At least you don't say 9/11 was an inside job, or do you? Wiretapping, approved by Congress. "Enhanced interrogations", permitted by the Geneva Convention, which by the way does not apply to terrorists...
jimistreets 2 years ago
The CIA is desperate to convince everyone that their interrogations are lawful/necessary because otherwise they're now complicit in war crimes. Their testimony is very highly self-interested. 9-11 an inside job? Nah. Originally, the Geneva Coventions did not cover non-regular combatant, but later protocols do indeed cover them. Again, Congresspeople have their own agendas. I don't trust ANY politicians. They need our guidance and direction.
rich2506 2 years ago 2
Waterboarding, sleep deprivation and other "enhancements" we employed during the war do not constitue torture. I do think we have found an area of agreement, namely, distrust of politicians. I do have respect for some but not many. It is a HUGE leap to be shifty or even dishonest, to being a war criminal. Being a musician, I have many friends that differ from me in that they are against ALL wars. Not just wars started by Bush & Congress. They have my respect because they are consistent.
jimistreets 2 years ago
As usual, you and other conservatives hugely understate what was done to captives in American custody. If you had read Jane Mayer like Cacoune & I suggested, you'd know better, but obviously, you were too lazy to even look up her work. Keep your respect.
rich2506 2 years ago 2
I HAVE read articles by Ms. Mayer and I feel the same. Even if 100% true, it does not cause me shame for my country or it's leaders. These are the same people that have beheaded, tortured, and massacred in the name of "the religion of peace". They would kill me, you and everyone else hereif they had a chance. I hope it never happens but if they do get a nuke or come upon some bio or chemical weapons and use them on us, you just might wake up to what we face. The US is not the enemy...
jimistreets 2 years ago
I'm glad to hear you actually did read Mayer. That was left unclear before. Is the US "the problem"? The more constructive question is "Is this the best way to handle the problem of dealing with evil people?" (No, I don't doubt that al Qaeda people are evil) Certain US tactics are the problem (Whether Bush & Co adopted them because they're evil or genuinely confused, I'll leave that up to history to judge) Torturing suspects is hugely counterproductive and should stop yesterday.

Had Republicans felt F&F were a bad idea, Democratic backing would have been irrelevant.
rich2506 3 years ago 2
The idea that a few Democrats made the critical difference during a time when Republicans controlled the Presidency, the House and the Senate was ludicrous to begin with, but the blog firedoglake has a piece by looseheadprop on Barney Frank and F&F. The "turmoil in financial markets clearly was triggered by a dramatic weakening of underwriting standards for U.S. subprime mortgages, beginning in late 2004 and extending into 2007,"

i AM DONE TRYING TO GET YOU TO UNDERSTAND. DEMS IN CONGRESS HAVE DONE IT TO.
ash4122 3 years ago
Yes, what Obama is proposing IS a tax hike. It's just that a tax hike is necessary after Bush's wild spending sprees and his racking up of the national debt to sky-high levels.
Socialism was indeed a failure, but Republican conservatism or "crony capitalism" is ALSO a failure and also needs to be tossed onto the scrap-heap of history.
And no, between Bush's vetoes and the Blue Dog Dems, the Republicans have been able refuse any real bipartisan compromises for the last eight years.
rich2506 3 years ago
Again redistrubution of wealth is not the answer. He just told a plumber in ohio thats what hes doing. Verbatem look it up right out of his own lips. Socialist agenda and America is wakening up and guess what in the great words of the rolling stones you cant always get what you want. Thats my message to Nobama
ash4122 3 years ago

I was originaly for Romney and hes not there so I was forced to make another choice based on my research.
ash4122 3 years ago
Notice what I said above. I DID research what Obama's Illinois Senate positions were and I know the issues well enough to say that I think he's taken marvelous positions. His positions on Free Trade are informed by the fact that FT is not, never was and never will be a purely financial/economic issue. He wants to bring many more considerations into negotiations.
rich2506 3 years ago
And not to get all, y'know, elitist and intellectual on y'all, but an "unbiased source" is what literary folks refer to as a "chimera." It'd be nice to have, but it doesn't exist. When searching for the truth in political matters, one must learn to weigh and balance and yes, knowing a bit of history doesn't hurt, either.

How about this you study. Go to the illinois senate website and you tell me one good thing he voted for?? Second go to the united states senate vote again voted present over 130 times and hes for abortion and the BAIPA he voted against and Im the uneducated one. You watch to much CNN MSNBC!!!
ash4122 3 years ago
One good things? JUST one? Dude, there are DOZENS to choose from! I LOVED his views on Free Trade and Homeland Security, for instance!
"hes for abortion" - In other words, he doesn't believe that women should spend their lives barefoot and pregnant, slaving over a hot stove and not having any kind of life of their own. Yeah, President Bush is "pro-life," except for the fact that he started the Iraq War, which has killed Iraqis in the hundreds of thousands.

Libs created Nafta and that has cost alot of jobs but see you have been brain washed just because you dont like war
ash4122 3 years ago
Hey ash4122...do some homework, pops. Look no further than your pal Ronald Reagan for starting the whole deregulation of the banking industry. Look to Newt Gingrich for authoring NAFTA and other shithead trade deals. Look to Bush for attacking our Constitution and committing war crimes and impeachable offenses. Look to McCain for being a GOP stooge who denounced his country many times while in Vietnam. He is no war hero. He graduated 894th out of 899 in his class at the Naval Academy.
