Keep in mind that this is titled for a 5th Kyu level. As such, it seems ok to me. Not till much later that Ura and Resistance and Timing come into consideration.
Not only should you have done it at least once in real time, there needs to be tension otherwise you never really learn the technique, there needs to be a rejection of your movement.
@mditty2006 That's very counter aikdio. Aikido is the way of harmony, but the harmony is in the way we train, we allow our partners to perform the technique so that they may learn. To be resistful and annoying is completely the opposite of what O Sensei wanted, if you want resistence then perhaps Daito Ryu would be better suited.
@ChadMaestrodotcom Allowing your partner to perform the technique and never practicing in a real world situation are two different things. Nobody said resist and be annoying, but nobody is going to place there hand in the perfect position, and then wait for you to put them on their back, for you to do what most people, ultimately, do this for - self defense and the preservation of life, if possible. Muscle memory can only do so much. In the real world, you're dead by the time you set your feet.
@ChadMaestrodotcom There's a difference between offering resistance that is detrimental to learning, and offering resistance that aids learning. You want to be compliant with somebody who is still learning the steps and movements of the technique, but you should be offering your partner an appropriate level of resistance to hone the techniques they already know. The practitioners in this video aren't really doing this, and it shows. Uke is giving away balance, shite isnt taking it.
During the execution of this technique, the back should remain straight. This is wrong - bend forward

This is a poor example of this technique...
