We live in an age of ugliness and, since Vatican II, the Church has embraced that ugliness. It is time to revive some of the old traditions and it is good to see Pope Benedict's concern for the aesthetics of the Faith. Your video did not mention sacred music, which has suffered as much as ceremonial, architechture, vestments and the rest - in fact, my only criticism of your film is that it has a very inappropriate sound track. What has a string quartet got to do with the Church?
@SonjaTalton My point is that the triple tiara is a non-essential, and that it makes no difference, one way or the other. The last several popes apparently agree with me.
Yes they should be restored. Why because they have develpoed in use, admiration, and respect over the centuries. To not use them is directly related to the Continuity of Rupture our current Holy Father refers to. Maybe not as often or modify when they are used, but Roman Catholics worldwide should see these things as living, not museum relics. ANd to re-use what is in "storage" is an excellent way to save money!. Why commission new items when we have what we need to symbolize the Pope?
What a wonderful tradition of our Church, but we can not criticise any of the Popes for not following this tradition. Remember that Vatican II was started by John XXIII the successor of Peter through intervention of the Holy Spirit. Anyone who rejects Vatican II rejects Peter himself. Anyone who rejects Vatican II is not a Catholic.. So triple tiara or not, our Pope is the successor of Peter, and his duty is the same.. to guide and bring Catholics closer to the Light of Christ.
@checkthisout732 Yes, i know that I was just posting this because of all the people who reject Vatican II.. Indeed we need at least some of the splendor the Church had back then.
@frensarmiento We Protestants maintain that true succession of the apostles does not come through some genealogical type lineage which has no purview in Scripture, nor in the writings of the Apostolic Fathers. True succession of the apostles is being faithful to what they taught. In this way, all true Christians can be successors of Peter or Paul, or whichever apostle one might favour. Does the R.C.C. show fidelity to their teachings? This video, unintentionally, answers that question.
@jlandles How does this not show fidelity to Christ's teachings?
the luxury maybe? The gold? Well, The Pope is the Vicar of Christ himself he deserves more than this. There's thousands of Catholic hospitals, schools, and other Charitable societies around the world. As a matter of fact the Catholic Church IS the largest charitable organization in the world.. We started the University system, yes the Church has been through alot, so I think we represent fidelity to the teachings of the Apostles.
@frensarmiento What you have stated is utter ignorance of the Catholic faith. There have been instances in the past where popes DID fall into heresy and lead the faithful astray. According to canon law it is your duty and right as a Catholic to object to any teaching that is not in accordance with Scripture and Church tradition. To think that a Pope cannot fall into heresy and is somehow immune to it is utterly false. A lay person however does not have the authority to depose a Pope.

It's unbelievable, I just looked on Facebook to find a group for Catholic Traditionalists or any kind of group for the restoration of pre-Vatican II practices.... what did I find... not a single group like the above mentioned, BUT I did find 20 "We love Vatican II" groups and "Traditionalist Catholics aren't real Catholics" and "Save Vatican II"
CRAZY! In many ways Vatican II has screwed up great traditions... free standing altars among the worst of them.
@codeman2008 Vatican 2 was a hijacking of the structures of the Catholic Church to promote Modernistic religious syncretism. Private message me for info on true Catholics.
It would be very nice to see these things, but even better to see them restored right? Benedict XVI returned the pretty vesments as well as the Papal thrones and Latin mas. Now all I want back is the coronation mass.

And does anyone really think that St. Peter wore a triple tiara?
mindspring57 1 year ago
The Pope who brought about Vatican II specifically involved at the very highest levels of debate protestant ministers and theologians. Why?
NB Serious question.
