  • am I the only one from "A Missunderstanding" fanfic?

  • well shit

  • Great, now bronies are starting to take over the Mother fan base. It must be the work of...Dinkleburg...

  • To end this end this debate I'm a fan of boat and I think we should stop over thinking every damn thing!

  • wait.... paula...ana... paulaana... pollyanna?!?

  • they're also called pmvs because it's funny/cute. pony is a funny word. mlp and mother 3 share a lot in common :)

  • @BathtubSalsa no they dont mlp is gay and mother is great. comparing something so awesome with something so bad is just wrong!!!!

  • @BathtubSalsa I'm a fan of both, and I can assure you, they have next to nothing in common.

  • @XiaTheNinja Well I'm also a fan of both and I can assure you they share a huge deal

  • I don't like how there are ponies in the related videos.

  • idk why but whenever i play earthbound it reminds me of mcdonalds for some weird reason o.O

  • @IdentNone ...Thank you sweetie. I am sure you are an agreeable and docile little girl and I wish you a bright future. Just don't get into making porn videos my sweet little child because those men will use you my sweet little girl.

  • Blaaah! Horrifyingly bad. Absolutely monstrous and completely objectionable.

  • @EatYourprettymess I commend such remarkable facility in self description.

  • This song's so freaking CORNY. But I freaking LOVE IT.

  • 34 people have no hearts.

  • 最高のゲームをありがとうございます。

    糸井重里さんとMOTHERを作った皆様、

    そして上げてくれた主に感謝です。

  • *sniffles*

  • I'm making a PMV of this

  • @LtDaffy Awesome

  • @electricmastro I've actually finished it, but for some reason it won't save properly :/ I'll send you a link once I get it figured out.

  • @LtDaffy DO EET!

  • @LtDaffy what's a PMV, I take it's like an AMV.

  • @Perion

    Pony Music video.

  • @xBlueBlastxX huh? oh... okay, I would have thought saying "MLP AMV" would suffice but whatever.

  • @Perion Sorry if I wasn't clear.

  • @Perion AMV insinuates Anime. MLP:FiM is, while styled like an anime, technically a cartoon.

Also, we seem to like to place Pony into things that are MLP related.

  • @TheWanderingLPer I've noticed the tendency for people who are fans of MLP to apropriate their own appelations for practically everything, which is somewhat irritating but whatever. the Term AMV has always been used for Animated Music Videos regardless of country of origin for over a decade, hell even video game footage to music videos are more often than not referred to as AMVs. In fact, even so much as making a distinction between Anime and Cartoons as separate media is a North American trait.

  • Largely due to the Animation age Ghetto which exists soley there, in that Animated works in North America are commonly thought of to be for children, and so works that are designed for older audiences are met with disdain. Only in the past two decades has it become acceptable for Animation to be geared solely towards adults, but even then only in the form of comedies such as the Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama and South Park etc. In Japan, Animation is viewed as no less valid than live action.

  • Animated Action Adventure series geared towards late teens/early twenties are almost completely non-existent in north america. The closest we've got in the past two decades are shows that are designed for older kids/young teens (Gargoyles, Batman TAS and the rest of the DCAU, Avatar The Last Airbender, Young Justice) or for adults only (Spawn).

  • @Perion Oh, I thought the A stood for Anime because that's the only type I'd ever seen. Sorry, I guess.

  • @TheWanderingLPer It does, at least it did originally, but over time it's become a catch all acronym to describe everything else with the same basic idea.

  • My opinion? It's not Ana or Paula. It's ninten. Think about it. "You can call me pollyanna, say I'm crazy as a loon. I believe in silver linings, and that's why I believe in you". He befriends a strong catholic girl, a shy grey haired nerd, and a gruff 20 year gang leader. Yet, he doesn't let that get in his way. He sees the good in his friends.

  • @WalterREBoRN Also, Pollyanna plays in the game when only Ninten is in the group, when anyone else is with him it changes to Bein' Friends.

So I guess it is Ninten.

  • @WalterREBoRN I think that Ana is singing it and that her full name is actually Pollyanna but people(Famicom) shorten it to Ana because of the letter capacity. It is also sung by a girl.

  • @Akira3231999 That would be incorrect, because in Japanese they would have plenty of room to write that, and even in the Japanese version of Mother she's called Ana. Plus, in the Mother encyclepedia it states her name being Ana and nothing more. The song's only called Pollyanna because it's based on the book "Pollyanna" about a girl who is happy in every situation.

  • @Zangamarth why thanks...As a huge earthbound fan..we have to find things like this...

  • Keiichi Suzuki and Hirokazu Tanaka wrote the music for Mother 1 + 2. Tanaka is the composer of other famous soundtracks like Metroid, Tetris, Duckhunt and basically all the Nintendo music which wasn't by Koji Kondo

  • like the jingle at the start :)

  • I prolly wouldn't care for this song if it weren't for Earthbound.

  • this song was just what i needed today

  • I wish they have made more meaningful music like these! This music sent a messege! Earthbound's music, though may not be for everyone, should be appreciated for how much meaning and power it relishes behind each song. You never expect that from video games today. Long Live Earthbound!

  • @Zangamarth come to find out..A little bit is in earthbound..when the sun in rising after Buzz Buzz was killed...A little segement of this song plays...

  • @luigifan586 Ah, you smartie you. I didn't notice that. Good ear, my compliments.

  • Listened to it over and over again. Who wrote / performed this?

  • @ElusiveHermit Catherine Warwick.

  • @PlasmaTaCoS Wrong game, as this is from Mother 0 originally. I don't remember it in Earthbound, was it?

  • @Zangamarth "Face palm" There is no Mother 0. Just Mother 1, 2, and 3...

  • @ZeratheWolf Arg. Mother is Earthbound 0, so it's called. I got my names mixed up. starmen dot net/mother1/

I cite my sources when I'm wrong.

  • There was always something about Earthbound that I love so much.

It's science fiction brings out our wonder and curiosity for what is unknown and beyond, it's friends bring out our love for unity, it's goals bring out what is truly rewarding about helping others and ourselves, and it's endings show our resolutions as we grow.

Earthbound is the perfect game for kids, it celebrates the everything in and about the world.

  • Just listening to this song will brighten anyone's day!

  • Can anyone give me a link to download the full soundtrack?

  • It's touching.

This is why I hate war games. Blood everywhere, yuck.

    Nostalgia dance anyone ?

  • @305Ronan We shall play the song of our people and dance joyously!

  • Who is Pollyanna anyway? And who does she believe in?

  • @alexnobody1 hahahaha good question XD

  • @alexnobody1 Pollyanna is here nickname and she believes in the person who gives her that nickname.

  • @alexnobody1 Pollyanna is Ana and she believes in Ninten.

    I'm assuming so anyway.

  • @Mingaggins Pollyanna has been stated a few times to perhaps be Paula and Ana, but it's also a kids book about a girl named Pollyanna, who always sees the silver lining in everything, an optimist. It's a very sweet tale. Course, I don't know if that's intentional on... was it Koji Kondo on the music for the Mother series?

  • @Mingaggins I always like to think this is Pippi's POV because shes a lil kid and you get her b4 ana

  • @alexnobody1

    She believes in YOU!

  • Appledash fanfic anyone?

  • this song has the best lines i've ever heard. i've never felt lighter. i wish children around the world could learn this song.

  • I'm sure the names Paula and Ana had a lot to do with the choice of sing name, but here's a fun fact: Pollyanna is a children's book about a girl who is always optimistic and finds a silver lining to every situation

  • @pleschinski Given that Paula didn't exist when this was written, I think your explanation has a much more accurate ring.

  • @pleschinski Ever read it? Despite it being a "childrens book," it's very well written. It's also very touching.

  • @pleschinski Actually they said that the song was based off the movie Pollyanna, which was based off the book. I think Ana and Paula were, if anything, named after Pollyanna

  • Idk if it is paula or ana i think the voice would b higher :) just sayin

  • Now if only the played this on the radio

  • no i meant did they want ppl to believe ninten is singing

  • @PsiClausandHyrule I think it was intended to be Paula... or Ana. Hence the name Pollyanna! :D

  • @VillainousOperative I do hope you saw pleschinski's comment, saying Pollyanna is also the name of a kid's book.

  • @Zangamarth Of course! So really Paula and Ana are named after that...

  • @VillainousOperative PaulaAna. I understand now...

  • @305Ronan It was also a kids book, Pollyanna.

  • is this ninten singing?!? Oh awesome song btw

  • @PsiClausandHyrule No it's Catherine Warwick

  • why would anyone dislike this?

  • @Zbox95 Stupid lawyers who won't localize this.

  • Tvtropes sugar wiki theme song!

  • I just finished playing the mother series again because of this song.

  • YYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!

  • 240p we meet again...

  • @kargaroc386 Do we really need anything higher?

  • Whenever I feel depressed over my life's misfortune... I can always look to this song.

  • @RMMBound Agreed. My grandma is in the hospital and this makes me feel half better.

  • Holy crap this is awesome. :D

  • I've been having a bad day... this helped me a lot... thank you.

  • I cant even explain the feeling i get when i hear this song..... beautiful

  • @mappull Then why did you click on the video?

  • This song is 22 years old. Difficult to believe!

  • @meowlaise Even harder to believe when you know this was originally an 8-Bit song

  • 33 people dont believe in fairies

  • I role play as a character who is the living embodiment of hope. This is his theme song.

  • Or " How to change a great piece of art from one of the greatest video game ever to a shitty song souding like it has been made by a cheap 80's band. "

  • @felorobotoscope Fair enough. No need to tell us how much you hate it, just go watch the other version.

  • @soulstealer450 Well I don't need to but I wanted to see reaction of people who didn't realised how ridiculous this is.

  • @felorobotoscope Ridiculous to you, maybe. Enjoyable to others also. Is that a viable reaction?

  • @soulstealer450 Viable reaction ? You didn't even react on what I said about the song, you just reacted to the fact I said it.

  • @felorobotoscope Hmm, is that a no then.

  • @soulstealer450 Then it's a huge NOPE 'cause you didn't have any kind of reaction about what I said concerning the song.

  • @felorobotoscope well, its hardly an instructional song. It is merly the tale of a woman who feels mutual about being nicknamed pollyanna, who believes in a series of quirky things and believes in the person (possibly ficticious) that the song is aimed at. Therefore, the song can not instruct viewers on how to make video game songs into 80's tunes, as it gives no direction to this goal.

  • @felorobotoscope

You do realize this is actually the original song, right? The 1989 original? Meaning it was genuinely produced int he 80's, the lyrics are what was meant to be included in the song, and this is how it's intended to sound. What's the point in hating on the official soundtrack version of it if you claim to like the non-vocal version?

  • @JosephHord666 Fucking nope. The original song is the song from the game, and their were no lyrics meant to be included in it.

  • @felorobotoscope LOL @ anything related to video games being art

  • @Cerek120 lol @ you because there are video games in the Smithsonian, bitch.

  • @THEGREATMAX no, there are flags in the smithsonian

  • @Cerek120

    >Music

    "Lol not art "

Anyway, video game is art as cinema is : a combination of several arts.

  • @felorobotoscope nope.avi

  • @Cerek120 Argument, proof ? Fuck it, I'll just say no.

  • @Cerek120

    You'd best be trolling mate.

Video games are a form of art. Mother helps prove that, but look at portal 2. Comedy genius, right there.

  • @felorobotoscope personally i think it sounded good 80's good but good and again this is the original the one in the game while great in its own right isn't the original

  • @rattregoondoof The game was made before, the game version is the original one. Even the first vocal version was not this one, it was the japanese one that you can find in the OST CDs.

  • Even the Eternal Darkness guys would fall for this.

  • Is it just me, or do you imagine someone reaching out for a hug when they say "That's why I believe in you?"

  • @MonikoTheMudkip Oh my god, I'm not the only one?

  • @MonikoTheMudkip I hug you. -love waynebradychokeabtch

  • @waynebradychokeabtch group hug!.....waddya mean B.O!?

  • If everyone believed what Pollyanna believes, the world would be a wonderful place indeed. =)

  • I feel like their should be music videos of these now, like with Mysterious Flower from Professor Layton. That would be amazing! :D

  • Comment removed

  • @rokemon101 That's exactly why! Evil=bad-ass (most of the time).

  • Nintendo I belive in you

    XD

  • カラオケにある店ある

  • Nintendo,I love your music!!!

  • I have to play this song at my wedding. We will have an amazing wedding dance...

  • love this song

  • I finished this song and realized a tear strolled down my cheek.

  • I love the mother series :D

  • This makes me h...a...p...p...y...

  • @GiygasForPresident Dude,do you really want giygas fo president,I mean he IS the evil himself!

  • @rokemon101 Hell yeah! Giygas=win

  • @GiygasForPresident I feel...good...

  • This is such a "feel good song".

  • Every time I hear this song I want to cry with joy.

  • The world would be much better, if we were all acting like Pollyanna

Call me a fool, but my heart will forever do what it loves to do, no matter what anyone says.

  • Pollyanna, may your virtue and wishes touch and inspire everyone who hears your wise words of uplifting wisdom. By god, this song is so delightful and inspiring.

  • This song, and maybe the game Earthbound, is about peerless optimism in the face of unfathomable evil. It is strange and funny how something like an SNES game can be more spiritually moving than any religious sermon, maybe because it's so unassuming.

  • @RogueWeather Well said.

  • @RogueWeather it also helps that in no situation ever would you expect to see a video game to be campy uplifting fun like the earthbound series and yet have genuine philosophy to back it up.

  • "You may say I'm a fool / Feelin' this way about you / There's not much I can do / I'm gonna be this way my life through / 'Cause I still believe in miracles, I swear I've seen a few / And the time will surely come when you can see my point of view / I believe in second chances and that's why I believe in you!" Fucking inspiring.

  • for some reason this song reminds me of Hina from the Touhou series X3 kinda fits her actually

  • @Dtt4 fuck you. Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift have no talent compared to the author of this song. Shigesato Itoi is a amazing mind he would never pick some crap song for his game. This music is amazing. This song is one of the most inspirational songs I've ever heard.

  • Get a better video picture.

  • Thumbs up if you think this would be perfect for a Mother anime.

  • @RSXemperor85 I heard this one version that sounded like it belonged on a sitcom.

  • @RSXemperor85 Mother/Earthbound anime? Boy have I got a link for you. watch?v=Mhgk22EaD4k

I can marginally guarantee you haven't seen it, because it only has like 2k views.

  • @RSXemperor85

Should that ever happen, I would watch it religiously.

  • i think i'll name my first son Ness. after the little child genius

  • i wish they would bring back ness for good. LONG LIVE EARTHBOUND!!!!

  • @SegaSaturn64 to be bluntly honest they would only make it worse (consider what im comparing it to) earthbound is a more or less finished story with very little left to go on and if it isn't one of if not the best game ever then there is no earth

  • @rattregoondoof well, they can at least remake the old games. it doesn't feel right having ness only appearing in super smash bros. maybe someday they'll make remakes.

  • @SegaSaturn64 yea they could do that without being unfaithful to the original.

  • @rattregoondoof true that.

  • @SegaSaturn64 Agreed. I wish they'd remake the first Mother.

  • @MarioAnimalCrossing i have never played the games. but i wish i could and i'd wish they'd remake them for the younger generations. they look like alot of fun.

  • @SegaSaturn64 You can. Recently a fan translation was finished for GBA Mother 1+2. Google it. :)

  • Pure cuteness given audio form! It burns my khornate heart!

  • @thedragonb0y So I'm not the only one who feels like they have a different approach to life after watching One Piece! (Especially after Baroque)

You may say I'm a fool, but there's not much I can do.

  • Thumbs up if any of you Tropers were linked here via the CMoH page on TV Tropes. :P

  • @Canera411 I was linked from the Pollyanna page, does that count?

  • @17Master Ha, close enough in my book. ^-^

  • Shigesato Itoi and your team. You've created 3 wonderful and inspiring pieces that has never made my look at life in such a different angle much like Yu-Yu Hakusho, One Piece, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

No RPG has ever made me experience this many emotions and it is by far my most favorite of all time.

Thanks for the entertainment! I hope to have the same passion and care for my games as much as you guys have! ^^d

  • *goes to find this on itunes* GRRRRRRR....

    ITS NOT THERE!!!

  • @TheRileysasha go to starmen.net im not sure they have this exact song but u can get the 5 albums of rock candy 4 download. theyhave many remixes of pollyanna with and without lyrics, just this person doesnt sing. 154 songs, well worth it

  • This Song Saved My Life.

  • Thumbs up if you think Mother or Earthbound should have a Broadway musical adaptation

  • @Davetacular45 If someone can pull that off that would be the one Broadway show i would acually feel like buying tickets to, because that would kick ass.

  • 29 people need to learn how to belive in people

  • all these singers... justin bieber, taylor swift, and others... all think their music is so great and has deep meanings BUT NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO MOTHER!!!

  • @thegrief13 justin bieber? :P lmao he shouldnt even be A singer he's so bad!

  • @ZeratheWolf lol well then you get my point rite?
