  • Who cares? That's one of the oldest jokes anyway.

  • LENO DOESNT STEAL JOKES!

LENO, LIKE CONAN, HAS JOKE WRITERS THAT SEND IN THEIR JOKES OR WORK AT HIS OFFICES, DONT BLAME LENO!

  • @quezcatol because u work for them and know all this

  • @quezcatol Its hard not to blame leno when he sucks and has a big faggot chin. Theres my two 'immature' cents of the day put into a comment and its like 8pm

  • They both suck, regardless lol.

  • Leno has stolen from Conan in many ways over the years, his jokes and the tonight show, still to this day one of the dumbest things I've seen when Leno had his big retirement from the tonight show and then came back 7 months later. I mean what a dumbass

  • This is not joke stealing.

Anyway, ALL comedians "steal" jokes, the think is you have to give it your own spin and most importantly: you have to TELL IT IN AN ENTERTAINING WAY!

Anyone can look up jokes on the internet, comedians are valued for their delivery and choice and overall showmanship.

  • Not only Leno used it - he also ruined it.

  • Wasnt stolen, NBC has their own writers who write the monologues for both when they were both on NBC. From there they tweak the jokes and give them to the hosts and ask them which ones they like. This is a regular occurrence.

  • Leno didn't steal it. His writers just regurgitated it, but Conan's delivery puts Leno to shame.

  • the Simpsons did it first.

  • @FadoDeo4444 the simpsons have done everything first! lol

  • That joke is ancient.

  • leno was never funny..i cringe at the opening monolouge.

  • leno is garbage

  • I do sometimes like Jay's monologues, but I like Conan better because he's not an asshole to his guests.

  • Leno>Conan

  • Leno is GARBO!

  • Only Hipsters get this deep over stupid youtube video.

  • The reason why Leno likes to work with cars as a hobby is because he's such a tool. His delivery sucked.

  • dude it's all written for them anyways.............

  • Chins aren't funny!

  • I swore that when Conan was at NBC, I would hear Leno using the same joke Conan did a day or two later.

  • I'm with Coco. Go away Leno.

  • He stole a joke from Conan, less known to the public, Leno also stole a show from Conan.

  • Theres been other times where they have used the same joke as eachother.

  • conac writes his jokes...meanwhile leno hasnt made up his own monologues since the dinosaur era...team coco

  • wow al reynolds lost 30 lbs in two days!

  • Leno stole the whole Show from conan literally, like a joke makes a different.

  • conan is funnier, a better entertainer than leno. and he´s also pretty clever for a ginger, although that one i give it to Leno

  • iloveconan.

  • @yousaraatsix me2

  • Leno stole The Tonight Show from Johnny, Dave, and Conan. He's stolen segments from others, ie: Leno's 'Headlines' was Letterman's 'Small Town News'. Last year he showed a viral vid and claimed his staff put it together. Just in the past month, he stole two jokes from the show 'Redeye'. He's stolen jokes from almost everyone. Why would anyone be surprised by this one instance...Leno makes Carlos Mencia look original.

  • -_- okay I guess but both of the shows have writers! Morons Leno didnt steal conans jokes lenos writers stole conans writers joke. Or maybe it's something in the media that can be easily made fun of.

  • I think Leno is the biggest tool on the planet. I'm definitely Team Coco. But let's be fair...this was a lame, easy joke. Conan's jokes aren't what makes his monologue. It's the ridiculous character he does, the hip shaking and acting goofy that makes it funny. Those joke writers just always take the easy way out. Such an obvious line. I doubt it was stolen.

  • Jay Leno? More like, Gay Lamo! M I RITE?

  • @eggiex1 no. shut up. your not funny/clever/witty

  • I heard Mary Magdalene lost about 160 pounds....but then she gained it back three days later heyo!

  • @eleutheromaniac Lmfao they should give you a show.

  • welcome to the business

  • i heard tom arnold use that joke back in the 90's about roseanne so not a new joke. it wouldn't surprise me either if the writer's worked for both shows.

  • it can happen that one has the same idea, conans team "copied" a comedy bit from jimmy kimmel a few months ago, its not that big of a deal

  • @Sarkar80 I agree. (at the time) both Jay and Conan were on the same network. The writers write the jokes, not the "Comedians"(Makes sense doesn't it).

  • its like when binky stoke buster's joke.

  • @tagurit2 you stole my joke too

  • DEY TERK ER JERBS

  • @JesusWasADerelict EEEYYTOOOAAARROOOBS!!!!

  • It's not the jokes that are funny, it's the way Conan delivers them.

  • It's the obvious joke to make. Doubt very much it was "stolen". Still Conan told the better one.

  • a prime example of theft is that cunt and annoying HACK, denis leary ripping off Bill Hicks material, ... we kill our saviours while the demons run amok, i love that quote

  • Leno stole my bike!

  • leno = dueche bag

  • lenos a fag

  • he stole conans joke and made it worse he is really too old for this not that old people arent funny but hes just washed up and im not sure if that is the word cuz he never was funny

  • reason i disliked it coz GAY leno stole conans act

  • @tagurit2 yeah! he terk er jerb!!!!

  • Why does Stern, Conan, Letterman, etc. all hate Leno? Is he the Carlos Mencia of the night show circuit?

  • @mrmoneymaker05

He's the Dick Cheney of the late night talk show circuit actually. He's just an evil dick

  • Leno is a unfunny piece of shit, always was always will be

  • Wow, Conan's joke was funny, Leno's was mean spirited...

  • Conan

  • Yeah, I could have written that joke while vomiting at 3 am. It was the same joke but its not like it was clever.

  • @MalachorWraith Nah, Conan's joke was clever. Leno's version was stupid...

  • @MaIefic

Don't get me wrong, Conan is a clever guy but that joke is a dime a dozen. The monologues are simple hit or miss jokes that writers spam out to fill time. I still think Leno is a douche but that joke isn't a real prime example of theft. Any basic comedy writer could have written that joke, in fact you could probably trace that joke back at least 40 years in its original form. Believe me, its very simple comedy.

  • @MalachorWraith

    Agreed.

  • @MalachorWraith ya i agree its unfunny in the first place but the fact remains leno got the joke from conan there for leno should quiet and should shut the fuck up

  • @nicknigga u have NO clue, Leno is a hack, u got that right, what Malachor was trying to say is that a hot topic is up for grabs and that was an obvious joke, like minds think alike, i bet many comedians used it in stand up routines, even improv nights, ur a fucking moron for not latching on to the obvious

  • @MalachorWraith I respect the point you make, but at the same time it isn't that the joke was easy, it's that Conan did it and Leno did it two days later, in the same context. I believe Roseanne told it about Tom Arnold, but that was over a decade ago about a different person. The only way he is innocent is if niether Leno or any of his writers watched Conan and I highly doubt it.

It isn't like this is an isolated case either. Chelsie Handler should be getting a writer's credit.

  • @monokhem

It's a ridiculously easy joke to write. It's entirely possible that they didn't watch their shows and just happened to write a similar joke. If the joke was particularly clever, you might have a case but this is just two guys telling an easy joke. If you were listing jokes that look stolen, you could add this one to a list if you have more egregious examples but this alone proves nothing.

  • @MalachorWraith It doesn't matter how easy it is. If Conan told "why did the Chicken cross the road" on tuesday and if Leno told it on thursday, he would still be a hack and a thief because of it.

None of them having watched Conan, that's just neglegence.

  • @monokhem Intellectual property just doesn't work that way. You can't call someone a thief for making a similar joke with a very common set up. Not only does nobody take the claim seriously, but to defend your originality upon an easy joke is to disrespect yourself. What you are saying is that "I am so original in this statement that any person who comes close to this phrasing is clearly a thief" and that simply is not true.

  • @MalachorWraith No one is talking about intellectual property. If a TV show does one thing one day, and another show copies it two days later, it reflects poorly on the second show. I don't know if you are trying to deny this or not, but sidetracking into intellectual property smacks of intellectual dishonesty, like you are trying to change the subject to try to look right when you are obviously wrong.

  • @monokhem I hate Leno. I just do. It doesn't surprise me if it turns out that his writers did this, HOWEVER its a very easy joke. The idea that Leno himself or his team independently wrote this joke (which is one joke out of hundred of jokes they write in a week) is equally likely if not more likely to me. I'm a fucking comic, I come across this all the time. This is extremely common with topical humor and to point at this specific joke and claim thief seems bland.

  • @monokhem Here's what I think the original joke which is decades old probably sounds like:

Dave: Hey Steve, you're looking really good.

Steve: Yeah, I lost about 170 pounds

    Dave: How'd you do that?

Steve: I divorced my wife. Best 170 pounds I ever lost.

The joke is as old as sin dude.

  • @MalachorWraith Seriously, why do you think that is a response to anything i've said? Do you even read my posts, or do you just respond to what you think I might of said, because the age of the joke has nothing to do with my point.

Old Jokes are recontectualized for modern relevance. Conan did that with this Joke, Leno did not, he just appropreated Conan's recontextualization. This isn't an arguement you can win, It's a concept that you can choose to learn or not, but you have no case.

  • @monokhem

My entire argument is that this joke is so fucking easy to make that you can't prove one way or another that this joke was stolen EVEN IF LENO STEALS JOKES. It's an easy joke to write. That's my entire argument and you want to drag this into mud slinging go ahead, I don't care. I've been making the same argument that you choose to ignore for the last several posts anyway. Comedy writers sit around tables and watch news cycles, there's bound to be some overlap. That's the truth.

  • @MalachorWraith

He steals from everybody, he obviously stole this.

  • @MalachorWraith If Leno and his writers were really doing there jobs though, someone would have stopped him from doing the joke so soon after another major late-night comedian. If its not theft, its still a pretty unprofessional mistake.

  • @20PK20

I agree. Jay Leno doesn't belong on the Tonight show and NBC was foolish for ever taking Conan out of that slot. For the type of humor that is involved with a talk show, the monologues are always going to have jokes that don't work for one reason or another. When they tank, you need someone extra likeable and naturally funny to ride them out with charm and intellect. Conan does that, Leno does not. I agree that it's unprofessional.

  • leno sucks, but i don't beleive this joke theft sounded intentional.

  • i always liked Conan better than Leno.

  • leno stole nothing, that joke has been around for many years.

  • Team coco all the way.

  • If you think Jay Leno steals jokes from Conan, think about this. How come there were multiple periods where Conan O Brien would have 2 full weeks of reruns while the Tonight Show had all new episodes? Maybe it was because that is how much time Conan needed to steal jokes from Leno and because most A-list celebs refuse to appear on Conan until after appearing on the Tonight Show first.

  • @Rawk4Life are you an idiot or are you kidding?

  • Don't believe me, look it up yourself. There are several A-listers that would appear on Jay Leno's show BEFORE going on Conan a few days later.

  • @Rawk4Life those two concepts ar enot at all related. your logic is entirely flawed here im sorry, conan did not stop shooting the show so he could take time off to steal jokes from leno, are you retarded?

  • Leno was never Jay walk cared his ass for years. And I use to watch his show because Connan came on next

  • Jay sucks

  • Fuck Leno

  • fuck leno in the butt!!!!!

  • Not a Leno fan, but it was a fairly obvious joke.

  • Leno is a hack. Always was.

  • Team Coco ftw!

  • ahhhh! fuck leno

  • Letterman has been making the same joke about Mayor Bloomberg being buried in a snow drift for months and Leno stole it and changed it to Bob Costas. Not nearly as relevant or funny.

  • guys, they were on the same network. I'm sure Leno's like "hey, that was funny." and Conan was like "you want to use it?"

Not defending Leno, but it was just a little joke lol

  • @SSJKuhan i doubt it.

  • guys, they were on the same network. I'm sure Leno's like "hey, that was funny." and Conan was like "you want to use it?"

  • leno is a fucking tool

  • Conan's was funnier anyways...

  • @halfahuman agreed conan's delivery was much better. that's why jay isn't funny and connan is.

  • boo leno!!! Hooray for CONAN!!!

  • Many monologue jokes make their way through the Late Night circuit, I wouldn't call this stealing. However, there are MANY examples of Leno stealing material besides this.

  • maybe the reason is twice have the same writers because they are in the same tv station

  • @abelpower uh, no they each have their own writing staff.

  • @bwc3821 a ok

  • I don't like Leno at all, but you're a fuckin' idiot if you don't understand how ALL talkshow "script writers" (not Leno) rely on the same news and current events. You do know that, right? Can your wasted little mind comprehend how stars jones' husband leaving, and her notorious liposuction (fat leaving) could get put together this way? Fucking idiots. I bet if you went back and investigated you would have found that kimmel, furgeson, and lettermen had similar jokes. get an IQ.

  • fucking leno kicks conan off the tonight show and now i gotta get cable to watch him or i'm stuck with leno

  • Fucking Leno. I found out who actually watches his show, btw. OLD PEOPLE! Fucking parent-age folks who are unfortunately happy to watch this hack simply because he used to be funny.

May Conan reign over TBS until the world realizes he needs to put back into the eyes of the millions of viewers who have been deprived of him!

  • Team Coco all day!!!!!

  • What's new? Leno stole from Carson, Letterman, Stern, and many, many others.

  • More like Leno's writers stole jokes from Conan's writers..

  • Jay Leno, Carlos Mencia, and Dane Cook should tour together and tell jokes from real comedians like Conan, Richard Pryor, and George Carlin.

  • Jay Leno = Ned Holness (Carlos Mencia aka Carlos Menstealia)

  • @Y2p731 LAME

  • Um...I'm pretty sure that Tom Arnold told that joke before either of them. It's not a hard joke to come up with.

  • Yeah that is stealing you dumb fuck.

  • J is clearly the nasty bastard in the unfortunate situation that took place some months ago.

  • thats not stealing you dumb fuck

  • This kinda stuff happens all the time between Conan and Leno, and now Jon Stuart and Stephen Colbert. They write hundreds of jokes about the same news story, so you''re gonna get some overlap.

  • @swine74 nope...just your taste.

  • @swine74 and Leno steals from him...

  • That's not really stealing a joke, it's a pretty common joke, the whole "I just lost 200 lbs, my husband/wife!", stand up comedians do it all the time. Seriously guys, quit over reacting, you look like retards.

  • Leno stole a joke from Conan? Try a show

  • coco

  • that joke is as old as the hills! they both stole it.

  • coco tbs

  • as much as I hate Leno, that joke is reeeeally obvious. It's not the most clever joke in the world, there's bound to be versions of it. Plus Leno and Conan don't write their own jokes !

Everybody watch CONAN tonight on TBS !

  • He derk dis jerrbbb

  • CorkScrew O' Bran Flake

  • CONESY

  • I am a huge Conan fan, but this is not an original joke and believe me the writers for both shows are too busy writing new jokes for either group to steal from the other.

  • THE ONLY GOOD COMMUNIST IS A DEAD COMMUNIST! AHHHHHHHHH RAWR LENOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • cause it's That hard to write That joke.

  • these are both an old tom arnold joke...referring to his divorce from roseanne

  • Team Coco!

  • JAY LENO IS A LITTLE CORPORATE BITCH!!!! INSTEAD OF WORKING ON HIS COMEDY MATERIALS, HE WOULD RATHER DO COMMERCIALS FOR DORITOS...WHAT A WHORE!!! HE'S NOTHING BUT A CORPORATE SHILL WHO SPENT HIS LIFE INTERVIEWING LOSERS WHILE CONTRIBUTING NOTHING TO HIS ART!!!

  • It doesn't mean he stole it. It is an obvious joke and it sucked when both of them told it.

  • Anybody that thinks leno(or any talk show host) writes his own jokes is retarded.

  • @BoshBargnani Well im more likely to think that Conan writes his own jokes due to the fact that he was a staff writter for SNL and The Simpsons as well as other sketch comedy shows.

  • @BoshBargnani Conan is a writer by trade , he does write for his show

  • Jay Leno you suck man...

  • @TheLoveMachine It doesnt mean he stole it. Its an obvious joke and it sucked when they both told it.

  • Conando

  • that's not exactly stealing, it's a case of two different people coming up with two similar jokes and neither one was leno or conan, it was their writers

  • @ibclappin The least they could do is watch the other show (or at least the monologues) because often there's an obivious joke about something and they don't want their versions to be too similar at least.

  • @Rosvolainen yup you are absolutely right and actually when i think about it now they probably did watch conan's show. as a matter of fact how could they have not? it's their job

  • @ibclappin stupid

  • @ibclappin thank you. I agree. It doiesnt mean he stole it. its an obvious =joke and itr sucked when they both told it.

  • CHUCK NORRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry, it's an obvious joke that two separate writing teams would come up with. Sometimes things ARE a coincidence. That said, Leno sucks balls.

  • you guys are stupid, when you are doing current news jokes, there is only so much that happens in a fucking day that you can make a joke about and when two night show hosts happen to talk about the same thing you are all over the second one to show it. You don't do that when news stations run the same story. You are all just a bunch of un-funny pricks who have nothing better to do with your time than insult people who are more successful than you or your parents will ever be.

  • WOOT WOOT CONAN ROCKS!!!

  • conan was one of leno's joke writers i believe

  • @bleechrcreechrr He was but that was before he got his own show.

  • I dislike Leno.

    I could say more....

    But less is more.

  • I prefer Conan... a lot. But this is something that happened all the time, in both ways.

  • I wouldn't say this is stealing or repeating the joke. Same material.

  • Fuck you Leno

  • I don't like Leno, but Star Jones is pretty much the 2008 Jeff Gillooly.

  • Lenos not funny anymore, he used to be, but he just can't cut it anymore...

  • well thankfully conan's new TBS show will be comin out very soon.....im guessing it'll be quite a reality punch to jay that alot of people actually preferred conan over him....jay only got his job back from the endless cock sucking and ass kissing he did to the NBC execs ....hell even triumph the insult comic dog is waaaaay funnier than jay...let triumph host the tonight show...then maybe ill start watching it again

  • CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN CONAN~

  • Conan's Tonight Show wasn't nearly as funny as conan's 12:30 show, which is what got him his audience in the first place. The Tonight Show audience wasn't ready for Conan's brand of humor, so what was once funny became watered down. And Jay's better at appealing to the 16-75 year old demographic.

  • @jduplechin Thats dumb, they aren't separate audiences. That's the kind of thinking the executives who made the dumb decision to try and stop Conan from being Conan on the Tonight Show expressed. Just let Conan be Conan, the timeslot doesn't matter since his audience is mostly younger viewers who watch his show on the internet or Tivo it anyway. NBC needs to accept change before they fall by the wayside. If it weren't for 30 Rock and The Office, they'd be completely irrelevant already.

  • This isn't something you can steal, I think it's much more likely they both came up with the same joke.

  • @ByTor190 It's easily something you can steal. It's the same punch-line and Leno did his 2 days after Conan.

  • And why are people mad at Jay for being the Tonight Show host again? Do you REALLY think he's in charge of the Latenight department of NBC? HE didn't say "Conan you're fired, and I'm taking my spot back!" The head of the Late Night department did that. And if you were offered that position, would you turn it down just because you were mad that Conan got kicked off? No you wouldn't. You're lying if you say you would. Seriously people! Learn how showbiz works!

  • @RHMETAL If he had an ounce of class he would have turned it down. There would have been plenty of other show opportunities out there if he decided not to come back. Now, when his new show fails (as it seems to be right now) no one will want to work with him, and even if he does get someone else to hire him for a show, he wont find an audience, most people wouldn't watch just out of spite.

  • @gmcubed i feel the same way, he should have said no out of respect. and NBC was an ass for firing Conan, his ratings weren't as bad as jay's when Jay started on the Tonight show, it takes time to build a following.

  • @RHMETAL agreed as well. there's nothing wrong w/ both comedians btw, they're both great. and if anyone is at fault it's not Jay, its NBC, they allowed it, jay accepted the offer again, and hey what else do you want? a man has to work? besides conan would have done the same exact thing if the opp. was on his side of the field. so yeah. the feud was not necessary but should have pointed at the tonight show in general, and at NBC. but thats my point.. but i do agree w/ u 100%

  • @thoraxe313 Jay does not need to work. He has more money than Jesus and he should have done the honorable thing and stood up for what was right. Once the baton is passed, it's passed. The only people who take batons back are dictators and sociopaths and apparently Jay Leno. Hiding behind "I was just doing what I was told" isn't a good excuse.
