  • I'm one of my bands french horns and I love playing this song! It's hard but soooooooo worth it!

  • My concert band played this song in 7th grade!

  • i love this song, i'm in the Queensland youth orchestra and our conductor let us play this whilst we were on camp. i know certainly am looking forward to working with him in following years. i play the trumpet (2nd)

  • My concert band is playing this song... (im a flutie!)

    :)

  • @TwiHards11

    flutie, lol

our band is playing it, and i play trumpet (2nd)

  • i played this my junior year all three movements and i absolutly loved this movement

  • We are practicing the 2nd and 3rd movements right now and I would have to say this would be a good thing to go by haha

  • We played this in All State Band in 1972 (8th Grade) and I was lucky enough to do the French Horn part, still one of my favorites after all these years.

  • I'm in Percussion and I play all three movements... Tacet for part two xD

  • I play oboe in my band. This was my favorite movement from the piece. It's so beautiful.

  • @pplsuq I play the alto sax, the music for this part is beautiful but frustrating to play.

  • the Euphonium part is fun, and pretty as usual :P

  • I love this peice. And this movement out of the 3 is by far my favorite. I love these slow pretty songs. They just make me happy lol. I play flute....and played this for our honor ban in 8th grade! It was great! I was happy because I got 1st chair and got to play 1st flute! It was an honor to play such a beautiful song! I love this movement....and really the whole song in general. And this band played it flawlessly! :)

  • I love this movement, it's absolutely gorgeous.

  • i dont get to play this movement because I am a perccusionist and yet this is still my favorite movement out of the three. It it just so warm and it embraces you as you listen to it.

  • When our band sightread this, the assistant director played horn with us. Then our director said "You should totally play for the concert, it was like horn rising above the band like a phenoix"

  • we're playing this for our spring concert (all three movements), we're a middle school and we sight read this the other day, our french horns were incredible!(: i play trumpet and baritone(:

  • This is such a beautiful song.

  • My band is playing this song this year and we both play bass clarinet and she really hates this movement. I thinks it's because she loses her air really easily on this movement XD But the french horns sound good :)

  • one of the best ensemble pieces ever written--period.

  • teh suspension opportunities are incredible for a top performance musical recording.

  • this song is so beautiful it makes me want to cry, i play the horn and we r playing this in band and i love it so much. our conductor actually started crying from it lol

  • Of the 3 parts to this song, this part is my favorite!

  • from performers points of view it may be fun, but, from the podium , well, can be rewarding.

  • I'm playing this part on a single F french horn and climbing up to the upper G it's almost impossible. Did you play this piece on a single or double horn?

  • @MusicaErgoSum00 It's not the pitch of the horn that is important. It true that some horns respond better up in the upper register, but most important is how you go high. Use your diaphram muscles (at the top of your stomach) to push the air out of your lungs - not your chest. Keep your head up like you are a puppet with the back of your throat open and clear-practice this by yawning...it's the same feeling. Keep your tongue slightly arched and with a curve down the center to drive the

  • @MusicaErgoSum00 toward your lip. The upper lip center especially must be very flexible. Teeth (and jaw) opened slightly less than a pencil width. Corners of the mouth shut and slightly downward. Bottom lip can stretch tword the corners. Bottom lip must be "anchored" on the bottom of the mouthpiece that way the centerline horizontally should have approximately 2/3 of the mouthpiece above this line and 1/3 below. When you play low notes the centerline creeps upward as your jaw opens

  • @MusicaErgoSum00 (remember your lower lip must be anchored) and of course the centerline drifts lower when you go very high say A above the staff to F an octave above the staff. I don't know why it works, but singing the music to yourself, but playing through your horn seems to get my best delivery...I forget being anything like nervous...I keep relaxed and the notes just play. High notes....well they just become another note. Lastly, DONT force (lip up) high notes.

  • @MusicaErgoSum00 If anything blow them down in the slot. Especially high notes. Make believe that you live on say the note A above the staff. When you play G, speak down to it. Get your lead pipe pointed slightly down (that will help free up your upper lip to vibrate more vibrantly) and convince yourself that that G is no different than the G in the staff. Try these things...it works big time. I don't know your age, but a student of mine who is a HS freshman just had a recording put on youtube.

  • @MusicaErgoSum00 She is a living example of all that I've said above and yes, she is doing very well. Two years ago she was rated #4 in California for a horn player 16 years old and younger. She is now 14. You are already in youtube...under search put in NORTHGATE YOSEMITE AUTUMN....enjoy....and take my advise to heart. Keep relaxed, sing, and drive the air column through your lips. Good luck.

  • @CloudyRainySunshine The French Horn player can be the most valuable member of the performance group when the picture is right.
