Because my parents bought a Al Hirt album with this song is the remember the first. Then in 1993 picked up a Harry James best of tape and discovered this version which admittedly I did not like at first but do today. Was listening to this song on my way to Wal Mart this morning.
@generationll I still have my mother's Al Hirt Album like yours ! ! ! I've always admired talented musicians & my channel's 550 playlists include lists for 350 individual artists like Hirt & James. Horst Fischer is ann incredible German trumpet player, too. I've also created 111 lists for every year since 1900, so as I have time to research or uploaders post release years, I've got about 6000 songs on those lists so far, always adding & editing unplayables. Come pay a visit! chuck
That's a great song and great sounding record. I really like that Philips changer. My grandfather up in Canada used to work with Philips back then. He said that those old Philips changers were the best you could get. I have a Packard Bell changer from 1968, but I'd love a changer like that one. Great video!
Harry James was my favotie big band leader. I learned to dance to 2 o'clock jump and found all of his Columbia sides exceptional. I've since embraced Woody Herman, Gene Krupa, Shaw, Goodman, Miller, Kaye, Ambrose, the Dorseys...but James was the first to make me understand how cool swing and big band really was.
I listened to this recording often as a child and the record was not in my father's vast collection after he had died. Thanks for posting this so much. My father served in the US Army Air Force Band during WWII as a trumpet player and Harry James was a great influence on him. The arrangement is fantastic and the musicianship is tremendous!!!
Thanks so much-again! This "insignificant" video represents culture and freedom in art in which the talents of a few individuals bring can bring joy to countless others!
Definitely one of the better James recordings - and a demonstration of just how generous James was in featuring his sidemen (in this case, Willy Smith on alto sax)
Al Hirt also did a version of this song in the 1960s.If you have a Harry James greatest hit tape like I have have this song follows Its Been A Long Time.
Gracias.

Harry James was quite generous featuring his sidemen, such as Willie Smith, the soloist on this recording.

Danced to this in college, but haven't heard it since. Thanks, Yopa, for the memory of that long ago romantic night.
