Do you ever have the problem of rocks and shit getting inside your quick coupler and jamming it up? One of the guys I work with broke the cylinder in the coupler and I've been finding a that I also get a lot of rocks inside the unit and it takes a bunch of extra time to clear the crap out. ??
@ajdaigneau Not so much rocks as these couplers do have guards over them to prevent it. On the other hand we've had mud and dirt get in there and freeze in the winter and be a royal pain in the ass.
thats true i like any hitch thats stops you get in an out to change buckets is agood thing i read your comment on the volvo have you driven an volvo machine ?
@533nick Yes I (Alex) have. I'm sure they are a fine machine for over in Europe but here they aren't quite what we are used to. I grew up with John Deere hoes and I mean actual Deere hoes before Hitachi. When you climb in a Volvo it feels cheap, they cater to the European market with being compact, light and fuel efficient. Unfortunately people here like having power. I like a hoe with grunt. Ever tried snapping up 3ft of solid frost slabs with a hoe that couldn't snap up 6" of concrete?
@533nick The easier one to use doesn't make it the best. I have used JRB, Geith and H&H pin grabbers and liked them all. I like the price of the Geith and the safety locks are nice on them. The H&H integrates well into a machine that was not originally setup to have a hyd. coupler and JRB makes a great coupler that is easily serviceable, great quality and outlasts the machine you bolt it to. Each company has its advantages and disadvantages. There will never be a clear winner in best hitch.
@533nick I also like the engcon coupler, WBM couplers, Dromone's, Wood's and Case and JD make nice couplers. Everyone has the unit they prefer so I'll say any coupler that keeps me from pulling 2 pins to change a bucket is the best. Except JCB.... we all agree we don't like JCB haha.
@kickermcdogg Why thank you, we try to mix it up and keep it different. If you find a video of a machine you like we may take a few weeks or months to repeat it but there is always something new.
@gidrozin Yeah the Miller's are what we were talking about in earlier comments. Caterpillar buys the MIller Bug and relabels it as the Cat Branded Pin Grabber. Which I didn't know until a half hour ago.
@vantagetes I wasn't really referring to this Deere with hydraulic coupler. I've been watching your videos and yeah, I understand you guys. You have huge construction sites with lots and lots of earth/rocks to move, of course you have big machinery for that. But for smaller things? Things like a road in a residential area, land planning and yeah, smaller sites? Why don't you use a Tiltrotator? In Scandinavia it's as common as bacon, everyone eats bacon. You guys have a tiltbucket at your best?
@t0lwers Using a tilt rotator on a road job? Well we do have graders and trim dozers for that. I see the benefits of having the rotate feature, but at the same time how often have I felt the need to spin that fucker around 360 degrees? I can do it on a grader doesn't mean I use it there either. Many people around here do have rotating couplers but you also have to remember thats generally a stage in the development Jason and I aren't around for.
@t0lwers So how are we in the stone age? I didn't know hydraulic couplers on 85 ton machines was ancient. I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject though.
@robby844 They don't work as good as pin grabbers, and yes buckets do fall off. But the sad part is in this province you might find one hoe with a pin grabber coupler. Even std. non quick attach machines are equipped with a wedge lock bucket most of the time.
@vantagetes thats sad. here in cali they are talking about outlawing the wedge locks because we have stupid operators. for the most part (that i know of) our machines here come standard with the pin lockers. we just got a few from an auction when i was working.
@robby844 Oddly enough pin grabbers have the same issues with buckets falling off that wedge-locks do. The bucket comes off when the operator doesn't make sure the bar has seated into the lugs correctly. Pin Grabbers have the same problem if you don't make sure you've grabbed the pin completely. One of the big advantages to a Wedge is that it will not increase tip radius as a P-G does.
@robby844 The advantage to a P-G is that you can use buckets from other machines sometimes as long as the pin diameter is the same or close. You can also run buckets backwards and it uses a std. bucket that has not been re-lugged like the wedge is. In varies by region, out west here you find only Wedge's, but if you head east you only find pin grabbers. It varies in the area you're located in.
@abc123456efg I have seen one or two loaders set up this way but generally they are set up with hooks on the high side of the bucket and a hole at the bottom that a pin slides through. I believe the Deere 744J video shows the quickl attach at the end.

our company found that the wedge lock doesnt work as good as the ''pin grabbers'' the wedge locks can jam with dirt and can fall off.
