  • I wish more people would consider shelter adoption. The two companion animals that I have had in my life so far were what some would call castaways. One was from a shelter and the other adopted me, a stray black and white kitten who huddled under my car night after night for shelter, until I took her in and gave her a home for seventeen years. In return she gave me all those years of joy. Your ideal animal companion is just waiting for you at your local shelter.

  • I wish i have one but a live in a tropical country.

  • @leogatobhzte Thats so nice but yes a Berner would perish in the tropics Right now its -14 here with 2 ft of snow & Muk is in his glory - plowing thru the snow with his nose, rolling & romping in it. He ADORES snow & cold temps.....hates summer. They are mountain dogs tho I dont know what they would do if a predator came after them as they are soooo gentle& could never defend themselves. Muk wouldnt hurt a fly. Thks for watching.

  • Magnum aka "Maggie" and Nellie are angels. heh, well most of the time.Nellie loves to shred paper towels and Maggie eats socks, probably from when he was starved. A month ago, he had to have surgery to remove them. Now we are sock "nazi's". I recently moved to Georgia from Northern MI, so no snow for them this year. They do love the snow and I've some great pics of snow dogs..they'll stay out in it for hours. Megwetch (Odawa thnk u) for writing back. Yes, I am Odawa & recognized "bear".

  • @konsequa Ahneen konsequa ! My Mukwah LOVES paper of all kinds - paper towels or Kleenex are like fancy appetizers to him...he jumps in the back of my van & if there is a paper napkin in the front he snatches it up like its a self serve diner ! hahaha. So sad to hear there will be no snow this year for your dogs...they soooooooooo love it ! Muk hugs the snow with every hair on his body..at the end of the winter he finds a tiny patch & its winning the lottery ! Roll, hug heaven!

  • I have a rescue from BARC also. She and her brother owned by an Amish puppy mill and both beaten. Her brother died from the beatings. Nellie is blind in her right eye and elbow surgery from the beatings. I've had her for 5 years now and she's forever home!! 9 months ago, I rescued Magnum as Mukwa, he was starved (70 #'s) and deprived of love. Heh, he's a big teddy bear and weighs over 100 pounds now. Berners are the best!!

  • @konsequa Thanks for getting in touch & sharing your story of your Angels. I am so glad that they found their way to you. Yes, they are the VERY BEST breed. Nothing like them and so forgiving and loving. Mukwah is 120 lbs., glossy fur, happy, bouncy hugs with his head and is on tender hooks waiting for snow so he can hug it with his entire being. He is such a lovey ! Incredible ! Miss Wetta too ! I give thanks for them both. Hugs to you and yours !!!!

  • How, in the name of god, someone could tread badly this magnificent creature?

  • Sob story aside, it looks like one helluva good dog.

  • barc is an amazing org, i got my berner from a breeder in quebec and i live in vancouver

(2010 olympics tmro wooo)) but wow did ur boy ever improve! 52 pounds is crazy for a male! how much des he weigh now??

  • @amirjon Muk was 4 yrs old at the time we got him - was starved by a bad breeder - gained weight at 1.5 lbs /day & is now 8.5 yrs & 118 lbs. He is very shy, doesnt romp & play like your Bear. Not something he is used to ...he romps in the snow but doesnt wrestle with Wetta or other dogs. We are back in Ont. for good now. My son lived in Vancouver for a yr& loved it.....worked & played there - wants to go back. All our best to you and your Bear.

  • What a lovely video! Miss Wetta and Mr. Mukwah are lucky to have you as their devoted guardian. Wishing you all the best in 2010, you deserve it! :o)

  • Thank you so much. It has been quite the journey with Mukwah and Miss Wetta - happy to say that they are now healthy, happy and very settled. Its amazing what a single phone call, car ride or gesture can do to save an animals life......and make it a great life. Big sigh.

  • I remember Mukwah like it was yesterday. What a journey you guys took together!

  • Thanks Courtney !

  • What a love story ! So nice to see a happy end for your lovely dogs, couldnt help tears falling....I also have a bernese mountain dog, she is 3 1/2 old now. I will never understand how people can neglect and hurt these loving creatures !!Especially berneses, they will do anything to please their owner ! Thank you for your work in helping other dogs !

  • Thank you Ti for your compliments & support. Our Berner is big and thriving & happy. I watched your vid & your dogs are delightful. Noticed how the other dog was mounting your Berner to be "boss" & in charge...the Berner has no problem with ever being the boss & just ignored the dog. That is so typical & funny. Great vid of your beloved dogs. We are recently back in Cda for good. I will never forget the many many dogs that we rescued in the midwest. All the best

  • I love a story with a happy ending....thank you for the wonderful work you have done.....I wish everyone cared about animals as much as you...lots of love...to all of you..x

  • Yes Alilinzee definately a love story & I only wish there could be more happy endings for the many many many dogs in the midwest. The abuse, neglect & abandonment there is horrendous. To many there, dogs have little to no value. Its tragic. Mukwah, Miss Wetta & I are home in Canada permanently now. I will always cherish the memories of those wonderful, loving dogs that I was honoured to assist & will do what I can here in Cda once we get resettled also. Many thanks

  • Thank you so much missEva My involvement with rescued dogs keeps growing in leaps & bounds. Mukwah & Miss Wetta are always so patient & kind with the rescues that find their way into our world temporarily. Pulled a starved white GS July 20 that was near death She now turns out to be pregnant & due in a weeks time There was no clue at all - because of her emaciated condition She is also Heartworm+ "Faith" will stay w/us to birth & wean her babies then do the HW treatment & spay Thks so much

  • wow! that is so good to hear!

    keep up the good work!

    wish you all the best!

  • I was so touched by your story. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for saving their lives. I also have a bernese mountain dog and I know what joy they can bring. They can be more human than more humans I know. They are truly blessed to have owners like you guys.

  • Amen !! I couldn't agree more.

  • How cute :-) It sooo good to see abandoned dogs like Mukwah & Miss Wetta being loved and cared for. All the best for you and your family :-)

  • Thank you very much mrsRogue. They are both quite different in many ways but a pleasure to share our lives with. Unfortunately the same rednecks that abandoned Miss Wetta in a shed down the street from us have since gotten a black scotty dog that was turned in to the vet after being found running the streets, another small black dog that was run over & killed and now have a Bassettt Hound that is often running lose. It never ends here thus my work with C.A.R.E. & their wkly transports Blessings

  • Some people should just not be allowed having pets...

  • What a beautiful video. Mukwah and Wetta are two VERY lucky dogs to have such a caring and loving owner like you.

I volunteer at our local animal shelter and have a real soft spot for dogs like Mukwah and Wetta. I am so happy to see that you have turned their lives around! You can definitely tell from the pictures that you have been caring for them well!

    You are awesome!

  • Thanks Ashley - it is us who have been blessed by them. I also volunteered at the Oshawa Humane Society before I moved to KS. Did you know that it burned to the ground just before Xmas? So sad. I am now involved in transporting dogs out of Kansas that are pre-approved & accepted by many groups in Denver. Some are breed specific, or large or small breed, puppies etc. Each wk I am amazed at how these babies hang in there & its very emotional They are the lucky ones who get out. A dream come true

  • You have a heart of gold. Thank you for sharing Mukwah's story.

  • Thank you for your kind words and for sharing Darryl's story as well. I was just wondering the other night..what it would have been like to cuddle with our Mukwah when he was a little pup....but, he came to us at 3 1/2 yrs old and is now 6 yrs. I cherish every day with our boy. He is super special and a delight to know.

  • OH I so loved this, it was beautiful!!!

  • Thank you Dee

  • You know, in the Bernese mountains in Switzerland, all the dogs are part BMD's! It's so neat to see! I had one for awhile but he disappeared one day.

  • Nice to see a happy story unfold. Great vid! =D

  • Thank you very much. Our Mukwah & Miss Wetta are very happy now..content & secure for the first time in their lives. We love them so much and they are a pleasure to be with.

  • Way to go Muk - you're the best. Can't believe how far you've come. You are the biggest goof ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha Well at least he didnt eat our cheesecake....count on Miss Wetta to get into EVERYTHING ! Fed them a few sourdough pancakes this morning. They will be our traditional New Years breakfast food from here on. I love you !!

  • Oh I am so happy to hear about your Berner too. What is his name? Our Mukwah is very shy & unsure around a lot of people. Tender, sweet & very gentle. He is starting to learn how to play now with his new sister Miss Wetta - she is relentless in egging him on at times. They say that rescued dogs often dont know how to play..they were never permitted as pups. So sad. But glad that our Muk is now feeling secure & not so intimidated. Thanks for your comments & all the best to you and yours.

  • Your photo diary of Mukwah's progress is like the mirror of my own rescued Bernese Mountain Dog. He arrived looking more like a an Irish Setter in stature but I'm glad to say just like your dog he has filled out to one grand happy dog-and great companion.Thankyou for your video story-let Mukwah know he has a twin in Scotland.

  • What a great video , You all did a great job with this dog . Maybe animals are here and are ANGELS sent from haven to JUDGE MANKIND . If so, you all will have a express pass to haven for your love and care off animals .

    Jeff

    Labrador Land Transport And Rescue

  • Thank you for your kind words Jeff. Oh how I wish the animals were here to judge mankind...and if I meet the many who have come into my life over the years on the other side...I will truly be in heaven. They are all Angels. Many thanks & all the best in your work. Shine on Jeff !!!

  • Black labs are one of the most difficult breeds to find adoptive homes for here in this area. They are all too common..if there is such a thing as "all too common" Bless you for your transport work and your Labrador Land. All the best from the prairies

  • That's a beautiful story, a happy dogs saved and I bet they are very gratefull too. Animals know the difference for sure. You're a super mom and dad.

  • Mukwah looks a lot like Dancer. Dancer is now 11 months and 85lbs

  • Well Dancer is ADORABLE !! HAHA. Mukwah is now somewhere between 110-115 lbs. Thank goodness! He was one sick and starved boy but rallied round like a true Berner - sweet, loving and gentle as rain. We love him to bits.

  • Behr from South Africa sends his congratulations to your Bear on getting himself such a wonderful second chance! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video!

  • So glad you enjoyed Miss Lily's Chili Sauce BBQ Pit Boys !

  • Love that Miss Lily's Chili Sauce! 5 Stars....Thanks -BBQ Pit Boys
