Worth posting again, I posted this two years ago, but it's way down on pages 40 & 41, so I'm bumping it back up to the head of the class.

The Cyrillic lyrics are interleaved with the Latin alphabetic transliteration of the lyrics so all you non-Russian speakers can understand what Krokodil Genya is singing, and sing along with him. This is a very charming song, one of my favorites.

Joe was one 1/2-hour long advertisement for toys, just like Thundercats, all the Transformer cartoons, TMNT, or any of that other garbage that got produced in the 80s & 90s. Which is why I fail to understand why some people have such cherished memories of it.

i think the key to your question is not to label a whole population into what you consider as the "Russian Nation" becoming a communist nation. The ideology in itself isnt even to blame more than the fact that the few people who were in charge of the government didnt always necessarily consider their constituents over their own personal interests. The culture is more representative of the nations general populace, than the government, and the Russian people never changed.
