An acquaintance of mine in Chicago is Robert Oppenheimer's grandson. He's not my friend, but I've hung out with him a few times, and my good friend used to date this guy, so she knows a lot more than I do. I've heard some crazy shit about their family though.... that I'm not even allowed to tell people. I would get into major trouble. The history that is available on Oppenheimer is definitely "edited". The American public will never know the truth about goes on. Just know that, folks.
Did you credit Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin, authors of "American Prometheus"? Good job with this, overall. Oppie also was awarded the $50 k Fermi prize in '63. I don't think his security clearance should have been listed; many of these scientists were foreign nationals, and this restriction made no sense whatsoever. While MP scientists created the bomb, they had little control over its use. Some thought should be given to the "fatherhood," label, as it drove Oppie, and Teller to invention.

Oppenheimer was a genius and he should rejoice in roasting those fucking japs since they attacked us unprovoked. Fuck you Japan, there is no sympathy for you, your war crimes against China, the Phillipens, Manchuria and the US make the Nazis look like Barney and Friends. FUCK YOU JAPS, YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chill dude. I'm totally with you, but ya gotta understand that we are allied with Japan now, and they've been put right. I mean... Yes, I'm glad we dropped the bombs, and unfortunately the punishment for Japan's war crimes was taken out on innocent people, but really, those were innocent people who didn't do anything against us. The country's leaders harmed us, but why hate the guiltless people?
First off, it's a school project, recorded with my computer's built-in microphone. I did the best with what I had. Second, in order to upload the whole thing to youtube, I had to severely decrease the quality of the entire file.
And no, I didn't have Stephen Hawking narrate the thing for me, even though I'm pretty sure i would have gotten a full score if I would have had him.
Abuse of intelligence? That doesn't make sense... You copied that straight out of the film. Oppenheimer did his job by ending the war. Other countries were also devolping atomic weapons, and in order to preotect his country, Oppenheimer developed a weapon to end the fighting. Hes security clearance was removed even though he was found "not guilty" of Communist sympathies, and as Unamacarana said above me, "He was a patriot who was used by his country."
The learned souls how have actually read books on surrender of the Japanese, know they called it quits because of the Russian invasion of Manchuria, not because of the bomb. I did not see the film, but by abuse of intelligence, I meant that just because something is do-able, doesnt mean it must be done. And yes, he was used by the US government. We have never made a weapon that we haven't used. Nuclear Power belongs in space, not on Earth where it is a Faustian bargain at best.
Oppenheimer's triumph lies in making America's science more than just an offshoot of Europe's scientific community. The creation of the Atomic Bomb brought America onto the international stage as a major figure. Oppenheimer opened the door to harnessing nuclear fission for usable power and not just mass destruction. The triumph lies not in the destruction but in the understanding of a previously mysterious phenomenon of science.
Well said. Glad to see someone else join the few who actually post an intelligent comment not just something along the lines of "Hell yeah! USA! USA! FUCK THE JAPS!"... We get too much of that.
Good God, are you serious? If we use anymore Nukes, I'm moving to a country who has some dignity. Plus, dropping weapons of that magnitude isn't so much fun when they now have their own weapons to fire back at us... So yeah, let's hear it for nuclear holocaust... I really hope you were kidding.
R. Oppenheimer was a very deepful person with emotion and justify. A lot of people have a wrong picture of Oppenheimer.

later investigations by the FBI proved that he was not a communist... but he was already dead by that point... too bad

He was a patriot who was used by his country.

God... is the guy narrating this talking into an oscillating fan, or does he just have a diving helmet on?
No, wait... I think this is actually being narrated by Stephen Hawking.

This man was guilty of crimes against humanity and abuse of intelligence.
Hodson2000 4 years ago
abuse of intelegence! loool what?
the man changed more then the course of a war!
furthermore he did not deploy the bomb or give orders for it to be used!
droping the bomb was a crime against humanity! making it was not!

Yes, Oppenheimer was Jewish. Part of the reason that he accepted the job as leader of the MP is his hatred of Hitler.
