Im running with Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I know i should try to change my USB polling rate to 1000Hz from 125Hz but haven't got it to work yet. What do you think of this?
Im on windows 7 running a cyborg rat 5 and I can change my sensativity to 5-6 in the propeties file? also irun with about 4500 dpi because I dont have enough space on my desk to move my mouse a lot (literally the space of a mousemat) I can adjust the sensativity on the setting folder in cyborg so should I do that?
Thank you so much for these tips. I've been a pathetic noob for so long in this and BFBC2. In only 1 map my playing was vastly improved. I'll see how it goes from here. With any luck I may finally break the .90 KDR ratio. LOL
@RivaLxfactor, It's been a few days and I'm sure you have been busy kickin butt. Kinda was hoping to get your pro help with the question I entered below about sensitivity. Hope to see ya soon. Peace
@rivalxfactor, thanks. Yea backed it down to 3000dpi. Gonna try the 1800 and see what it gets me. In your bf3 settings under profile, what does your mouse setting say. That will kind of give me a number to go by for ingame. Mine currently is set at .015900 just for numbers sake. This way I can feel what you feel when you game and I can adjust it from there.
Is there a part 2 in the works? I just started playing BF3 on PC; got a new high end gaming pc over the weekend. LOL I found out wireless mice suck; I have the Razer Death Adder on its way. Thanks for the tips!
@rivaLxfactor all done! Great instructions. I am new on PC FPS gameplay so I need all the help I can get lol! One thing though, I just got a new Razer Death Adder Black Edition 3500 DPI & downloaded driver 3.02 & Firmware 1.01. It seems to be working perfectly. I did all your suggestions from both vids.I dwnloaded 3.02 cause 3.03 wld cause me to lose 3.02 but the load config says 1.02 is installed. What happened? And is my driver version correct? Most confusing driver install ever.
@jzofop Yea, the razer driver install sucks... but I love their equipment. I would NOT recommend messing with the firmware.... Just stick with the drivers...
@Rival, Love you vids. Very informative. Just a few questions. I have a g9x mouse that has a 5700 dpi capability so should I put this mouse at 5700dpi I have my pointer speed at 5 for the setpoint software accel at 0. Report rate is at 1000. I also have been using Mark7windows fix back since UT3 so that is already installed. So windows accell is off and the pointer speed is at 6 in the center. My in-game is at 1.74. I do understand the in-game is what ever I desire. Any feedback would be awesome
i do a 360 in 20 inches so 450 dpi is better for me i can still turn around fast. if you use raw input i think it ignores registry fixes like markc am i right or wrong? since it reads directly from the mouse
I asked MarkC about the Windows cursor speed setting. He said any position other than position 6/11 will give you unwanted mouse acceleration. I found this to be true when I tested it using the DOS app you show in part 2. Great tips though - 99% of players can benefit from lowering sensitivity.
But i have a question: at 1:55 You show your slider on the left is at ten. I have the Razer Naga and i have a slider like this, but it says its for the acceleration? Should i move this ti ten, too?
I wanted to add to what Xfactor says that this will take a few days to see the results. If you change your mouse settings a lot like this at first its horrible and it takes a whole to get used to the new settings about 48 hours.. but its really worth it in the end.. great video as usual Xfactor..
@NeedSomeApplePie No, you're not. This is TOTALLY subjective, and kind of dumb if you think about it. I have my sensitivity high as all the fucks and I can aim fine...
Personally I got tired of trying to find a specific number of sens that varies anyway when playing different games, So i do about what you do but i count in cm
9 centimeters to turn a full 360 on the mousepad = what i like, sounds about ish what you got aswell. / Stoneshank
You should go for the highest DPI setting you have available and adjust the pointer speed setting to adjust speed. Higher DPI will give you a more accurate reading of movement. I run 5600DPI and a pointer speed of 3, relatively low sensitivity in-game for accuracy.
@muddymess this is completely incorrect... please take a look at in depth mouse settings guides and watch pro players settings on alot of games and you'll see the only thing that matters at the end is your overall sensitivity (windows + mouse + game), the polling rate of your mouse and how good the sensor on your mouse is
@DaBunnyKiss DPI is the amount of information read per inch, or basically it means that it takes fraction of an inch to register movement. The higher DPI setting means that it takes less mouse movement to register. Higher = better in general, 400 DPI would take 1/400 of an inch to register movement while 5600 would take 1/5600. You want higher for the fine aiming it allows. After a certain level it isn't really noticeable, but it's technically better.
I used to use 6th mark in windows, 1.0 sens in game and 500 dpi.
Switched to 6th mark in windows 0.165 in game and 3000 dpi...which keeps my 1x scopes feeling exactly the same as far as speed is concerned.
Now I find that I have much more consistent aim with all scopes 1, 1.5, 3.4, 4, 8, 12x all feel exactly the same. I was a headshot machine last night with the L96. So cranking the dpi up definitely helped me.
@KinienNorthoak Keeping the windows sense at 6 keeps it from skipping pixels, higher and it does, lower and it the ratio of movement/pixel changes. He doesn't really go into it but that's why 6 is good.
well i'll be damned. LOL i never knew about this shit like ever. i always get allot of kills (currently 3k more than i've died) no problem, but my accuracy sux at 11.4%. always wondered why others would have less kills than me (hell, some even die more than they kill!) and will have the accuracy i would.......well.......kill for!
big ups to you for this riva. i noticed a big difference immediately after doing this.
Logitech default and Windows default is the middle setting, they are equal. Setting 6 from left or right. Running 2000 dpi here, 1000 polling rate. still figuring out what works best in game. also using raw mouse input.
@roqe666 i use crouch and prone for cover and reloads... i shoot 99 percent of the time from a standing position so i can dodge and move out of the way quickly if need be...
Anyone know what the SetPoint (logitech software) equivalent is to that sensitivity option (xfactor has it at 10 via the Razer software)? I see DPI settings, but can't find sensitivity.
xfactor you are awesome, this video help me a lot to setup my mouse. I knew about enhance pointer precision but the other stuff you mention help a lot. I was struggling with my death adder, I even install back my ancient copperhead to test it, I also bought the the kinzu but has so many bugs. My Death adder never felt right until now. Part 2 please.
Guys, to tell how sensitive your mouse is, measure how many centimeters it takes of horizontal movement to do 360 degrees in game. Call this cm/360, and post your values to compare with each other.
Great video, doesn't help me (did give me the idea to reset seeing as how my logitech MX518 has 3 different setting i can easily switch between in game, I use highest for turn battles in aircraft, lowest for medium-long range battles, and medium for CQC (indoor) battles.
@Jawz4devils rule of thumb is one sensatity for infantry and one for vehicles. You want to train yourself and get used to one for muscle memory and twitch...
Brilliant, you're the first one of the people I've subscribed to that has taken the time to really talk about mouse settings, thank you for that! I have to try these out in the evening, might take some time to get used to the lower sensitivity but if finer accuracy comes with it then it's probably worth it
I run with 4100 DPI but I've turned down my sensitivity a bit. So I guess I can't fully compare it to yours. so my question is since it can be hard to tell how sensitive your mouse really is... what are your thoughts on high vs low sensitivity?
You should also talk about mouse software in a competitive environment. Some tournaments don't allow you to use any programs on the computer including the mouse driver software, so you should learn to not become dependent on the programs you use for mouse customization.
The main thing that you really don't want is any mouse acceleration. The problem with having acceleration is that it won't let you be consistent while you are aiming.
Consistent feeling at the controls is the key to playing better. So you want 0 acceleration and you also want to make sure you get getting that 60fps, even if you need to turn settings down. If you are bouncing around below 60, you are going to lose the feeling of consistency.
Guys never go above 6/11 on windows your movement become interpolated. The lower you go the more it cuts your dpi for intense if I use 1800 dpi 3/11 window senstvity my dpi will be 900. If I use windows 7/11 my dpi go above my 1800 dpi setting which isnt right because my dpi currently 1800 dpi and my movements will be interpolated
@LudicrousAndroid definitely I use to hate first person shooters (I still think that there are to many fps games) but this one game is my exception, awesome game.
@jonehidOgmail I know it's epic. I have it for ps3. I was asking @rivaLxfactor because I want to know if I should get it for pc and he knows my computer specs
@rivaLxfactor probably not for the running at 30 fps or the changing the graphics card? Also what frame rates would I get on all low settings with 512 mb, at 720p?
Since DPI appears to be an actual resolution that relates to the pointer movement on screen, which resolution should I be matching? If I'm running 800x600, should I set it to 800 or 600?
I'm also wondering if this correlation is only relevant to cursor movement, and not relevant to in-game movement, since the movement of your crosshairs are actually not bound to a 2D surface.
If THAT is the case, isn't it best to have the maximum DPI available without compromising your preferred sensitivity?
My question is: Does the DPI of a mouse relate to the resolution at all? In other words, would having a very low DPI and jacking the sensitivity up result in a cursor that skipped pixels on your screen? This is what it appears do do on my screen. 800DPI (with High sensitivity to compensate for cursor speed) makes the cursor movement much more jagged.
If this is the case, isn't the best DPI the one that most directly correlates to your screen resolution?
I have Xai by Steelseries, running 1000DPI and 1000MHz. I have no problem with my sensitivity, I'm just curious - when I tried to do those circles in MS Paint, they are allways jagged and quite a lot more than yours are...what should I change? I have default Windows sensitivity and no acceleration or other enhancement on
Nice video man, I'm enjoying these even though I switched back to BC2
You should look into MarkC's Mouse Acceleration. remover, even when you turn off the enhanced pointer prec, it's still somewhat there, you can remove it completely for total 1:1 mouse movement.
I personally use a Rat7 @ 450 DPI and somewhat high sensitivity, I think I need about half my mousepad for a 360.
I bought Razer Imperator, and when I try to download that software from Razer to configure it, it says that there is no Razer Imperator connected. Help?
Im running with Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I know i should try to change my USB polling rate to 1000Hz from 125Hz but haven't got it to work yet. What do you think of this?

Hi Rival
Your videos are great
I have one question for you
I have this old habit from BF2/2142 which is that I always crouch while I'm shooting in those games crouching made players more accurate
What is the case with BF3? Does firing from crouch position increases accuracy and creating a less bullet spread in BF3?
I find myself loosing some firefights in this high damage game because it takes a millisecond for me to crouch.
What are your thoughts on this?
Take care

Yeah I set my DPI to my maximum and my in-game sensitivity really low.

why keep enhanced pointer precision off, what does it do?

@michaelmjh23 messes with raw input.. not a good thing

For vehicles i think 50% mouse sensitivity is better, i need that to rotate the tank turret quickly.
btw, nice vids, thanks! greetings from germany!

A lot of good FPS gamers stress low sensitivity for pinpoint accuracy, but my question is when do you know if its TOO low?

I think the speed setting in the control panel is depending off your mouse's dpi?!
I have a 16k dpi mouse and I have the mouse speed at 4, and the circles look like yours
Volucrisincaelum 1 month ago
@Volucrisincaelum all of this is relative to your mouse DPI
rivaLxfactor 1 month ago
@rivaLxfactor anyways thank you very much for your videos, as you always said you helped me become a better player at bf3 ;)
