Seriously doubt the current (2011) Grand Vitara, with it small four-cylinder engine (tiny for the vehicle weight), could pull anything (including itself) out of the snow. Based on the 2010 model, the Grand Vitara was high of my list of potential purchases this year. However, I deleted the Grand Vitara from that list after Suzuki dropped the V-6 engine for the 2011 models.
The diesel is not offered in the USA. Only engine available is the 4-cylinder 2.4 liter (166hp), which is pretty small, by American standards, for this type of vehicle. I routinely tow a small boat or camper (caravan). The discontinued V-6 might have been adequate for that. Was at least willing to consider it. Not so with the 4-cylinder. Now focusing on vehicles with engines exceeding 200hp.
@stewartx5 Hello stewartx5, i purchased the 2011 Grand Vitara, and i agree with you (i wanted the v-6) but it was not avalible in the 2011. I was worried about the power, but on the test drive it had more punch than the wifey needs lol. We do not tow, or haul anything (just kids) Its great for what we use it for, but i see your point 100%. They did have a left-over v-6 model, but it was a pearl white limited edition(very sweet ride) but more than i wanted to spend at the time.
@6speedlover I'm now focused on the Ford E-150 wagon with 5.4 liter (255hp) Triton V8 flex-fuel engine. A moderate gas guzzler, but plenty of room inside with lots of stock towing capacity (roughly 7000-lbs). Self-justifying the extravagance in size and expense by insisting it will be useful for business as well - though my old utility trailer did just fine. At the rate I'm going, the 2012 models will be out by the time I finally decide. LOL.
@stewartx5 You seem smart and patient, waiting until 2012 is the right thing to do. Maybe Ford will put that new powerful 5.0 (302) in a truck with different gearing ?? I've always loved the Triton engine though :-) Good luck shopping, and post back :-)
Actually, patience has little to do with it. I'm overseas at the moment (government employee), with the purchase of a new vehicle delayed until my return to the USA within the next two to four months. In the meantime, I'm stuck with cruising the autobahns in my old BMW 5-series sedan.
Actually, one thing I love, and miss, is engines measured in cubic inch. Measurements in liters just don't sound as nice. Okay, I know that ages me a bit. :)
@stewartx5 im working as a salesperson in a suzuki dealer , and for trying both i can tell you that yes v6 feel more powerfull and it has more hp , the truth is that the 4 cylinder and the V6 as almost the same amount of torque , and they can both tow up to 3500 poumd , on paper its almost the same thing , but yes for sure the v6 was a great thing to have for different style of driving , now u need to rev a little higher
Ah, perhaps you can address another issue. GV comes with a plastic center console facade fitting tightly around the knobs and display of the stock radio, virtually ruling out any alternative. I'd prefer a radio with a USB port for a flash drive containing MP3 music. Cannot add that with the existing center console. Is there another console facade, faceplate, or whatever it's called, available to fit a DIN or double-DIN size radio?
It was only one good suzuki ever producet-Samurai, rest is .....

It's a diesel and has sufficient power. In the Highway still makes 170km/h.
130 hp for a 2 liter diesel.
Never had any complaints over the amount of power, you also have low gearing which increases the power with about 50%.
The heaviest load until now was 3 metric tons which i pulled without a problem. It even broke a nylon 3.5 ton pulling cable.
Now in Europe you've got the new 1.2 liter engines which crank out about 120hp with high mileage.
