  • First off Alex Ross art has changed, if you look at the stuff he's done over at dynamite and his past work it's changed. Second I don't think he does interior art work anymore, he's strickly a cover artist now.

I don't know where you got the idea he was cocky, but in the interviews I've seen him in he's very friendly and down to earth, unlike someone like Todd Mcfarlane, Joe Quesada or Neal Adams who all seem like rich pricks juicing themselves up in every way possible.

  • I like Alex Ross but I don't like his JLA picks (Green Arrow/Black Canary, Plastic Man, who I do like, and Atom...ATOM? Seriously?)

  • I hated the Peter David bearded, Captain Hook Aquaman!!! David destroyed what little credability the character had left when he radically altered the character like that. The clean shaven, orange scaled shirted, green gloved Aquaman is the real Aquaman as far I'm concerned.

  • @KCOliver1960Aquaman never had credability

  • @JayDee284 Here's a question. If Aquaman's powers are so lame why isn't anyone ripping on Marvel Comic's Sub Mariner who has the same power (except for telepathy)?

  • @KCOliver1960 simple Sub Mariner does not look like he hangs out @ gay bars p.s. bearded Captain Hook Aquaman rocks

  • @JayDee284 Yes he does, even more so then Aquaman

  • @Redeye1524 If your talking about the speedo look Namor has not been wearing that in years he wears a black outfit nowadays which is way more manly than orange and green lol

  • @JayDee284 Aquaman is awesome in all incarnations except for the Golden Age. His costume isn't gay. It's just imprinted into his look from all the media. If people were like that with Batman you'd think so too. There's nothing gay about it.

  • @TWOMERCY sorry but if he make's the Village People look more BAD-ASS and manly than he does there something wrong here

  • @JayDee284 tight black open chest outfit...yeah k

  • @SpawnHaunt You are such a fucking child. Now i'm getting sick of you.

  • 1. Mullet Superman looks stupid

    2. Alex Ross is a great artist

    3. He's a silver-age fan

    4. He enjoys drawing iconic characters in unique costumes

    5. 90s Aquaman looks stupid

    6. He drew John Stewart in the series Justice

    and most importantly

    7. But you are free to have your own opinion

  • while I can understand your points the one thing I really like about his art is that the characters look flesh and blood and not like drawings on a page.

  • lol smoke a point. your rant is silly.

  • Your kinda an annoying little bitch....... Who cares how he does his work..your dumb ass doesn't have to look at. I can tell your no better than him cause to lazy to even call them paintings THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE RETARD. Have fun being an asshole

  • @SCF894 LOL, you are an idiot.

  • I actually go to the same art collage Alex Ross went to, the American Academy of Art. One hall just has like 24 of his paintings of DC characters. You are right, his work does look like life-model paintings. He's supposed to be one of the "legends" at the Academy but I really don't even care for the drawings in the hall myself.

  • @SpawnHaunt Rob Liefeld is a BAD artist that's different then being stagnant like Alex Ross who hasn't evolved at all as an artist in 15 years. Peter David, Geoff Johns, Ed Brubaker, John Romita JR (and senior), Garth Ennis, Steve Dillion, Mike Mignola, Dave Cockrum, Neal Gaiman, RA Salvatore, Peter Laird, and Marv Wolfman to name a few.

  • if comics are todays myths, then what alex ross draws are the depiction of the heroes, like the paintings of greek gods

  • Alex Ross KINDA earned the right to be cocky. Youre a retarded douche. Go on over to John Byrne's website if you want to bitch. Stupid ass....

  • @Serpo71 John Byrne is even worse then Alex Ross.

  • @Serpo71 So, you agree, that he is cocky, but you are mad at him, because he said he seems cocky to him?

    Are retarded or something?

  • @Serpo71

No one has ANY right to be cocky, you idiot! Who is alex ross and why should he be cocky? Shut up will you! Alex Ross isn't all that great. I like his art but I don't love it and if he is someone who is always on his high horse, then screw him. John Byrne is classic, man! Claremont and Byrne's Xmen. Byrne did Alpha Flight and some great Spider man stories too. What is wrong with john byrne?

  • @awarlock82 What! John Byrne is the cockiest faggot in comics.....

  • @Serpo71 He just said his opinion, so fuck off.

  • Neil Adams seems like a cocky ass too

  • @hobbo3003 He kinda earned the right to be.

  • your just a little envious thats all

  • He did draw Kyle Rayner there was a justice league poster released in late 94 & early 95 which also had steel present and superman with long hair, then in a wizard alex ross special he complained about all three things and said never again. I have a picture of that poster.

  • how do you feel about Humberto Ramos?

  • @giantpickleman2 @ humberto ramos art is amazing to look at. Con - He sold out in the 90's for the dollar by leaving impulse to go and draw x-men stuff which is now meaningless

  • I just refuse to listen to any more of your rant... because you keep referring to his refusal to draw any new characters. Your taste in comics, I feel is rather limited... but it is your taste. Painted comics are a mutation on the evolutionary chain of comics. There are Alex Ross' which is great in and of itself. To see this in a monthly basis... well it has not been done before. (There is Justice, but that was irregular). And his hypocrisy, well that was because it was done as a separate work.

  • Just don't buy them, done.

  • Alex Ross is a genius, if you don't like his attitude or preferences just don't buy his work. I'd love to see him do other characters besides the established favourites he seems to focus on all the time, eg my own favourite character Blue Beetle, but the fact that I've never seen him draw/paint him does'nt diminish my enjoyment of his work.

  • The fact that they look like still shots makes them great. Maybe that IS his preference. Characters have gone through a myriad of changes. Spiderman as of late I don't like as oppose to how he looked in the 80's. Art is all about taste and prefer. Alex Ross is a great artist and I can only hope to draw like him. ALL artists only draw characters the way THEY want to.

  • Try reading the PAUL DINI graphic novels (Batman: War On Crime, Superman: Peace On Earth, Shazam: Power of Hope, Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth)

ALEX ROSS did the art. good... great stories!

  • To be honest, I like manga-styled graphic novels than American (Marvel/DC) styled graphic novels... American is too live-action and too serious... Where manga-styled can go either way (serious or humorous).

  • Ross painted Superman with the mullet a few times, actually. Besides, Supes with a mullet looked totally stupid, and looks so dated today. He also did plenty of modern characters on JSA covers, like Stargirl, Jakeem Thunder, and the Rick Tyler Hourman.

  • YOU ARE A HATER! LMAO!!! Damn dude if you hate his work so much keep it moving!

He is cocky because he has millions of fans If you were actually good at something and millions of people were idolizing you, you might get a little cocky too. Also If you didn't get the point of Kingdoms Comes redesigns then you are slower then you appear to be in this video.

  • @jigalojoe Indeed.

    -R78

  • I totally agree with you.

I love Alex Ross's art, but I wouldn't like seeing this on a monthly basis, like you said.

  • you are wrong, he drew all the updated costumes in the jla titles. as for batman rip, dc comics forced him to draw the covers the way he did in order to keep the story as hush hush as they coulc. while i dont care for his art..... he does to update modern take on heores unlike what you said.

  • Fella, I'm too busy to pay attention to your rants when I'm gazing at Alex Ross' Green Duo paintings because they're more awesome, respectable, & realistic than your rants.

    -R78

  • @Rodimus78 EXACTLY! This guys seems to hate EVERYTHING. I mean, my god....

  • @TheFirstJedi I'm suprised that he hated the WW animated movie that was produced by Bat-Wacko Timm & I hate that biased fucker a lot.

    -R78

  • I'm too busy to pay attention to your rants when I'm gazing at Alex Ross' Green Duo painting because they're so awesome.

    -R78

  • Would you mind telling me who the artist is for that piece you show around 0:35?

  • I see what you're saying here, but i still like Alex Ross. and the thing is, he is doing more covers then anything else. But on this topic of his art not working for the movie panels (so to speak) but can i suggest that you read (and review) the 1993 graphic Novel "Marvels". this is a Marvel book written by Kurt Busiek and art by Alex Ross. it is known as being the greatest Marvel book ever (it won all the awards the year it came out) Ross' art worked there. could you read and review it please?

  • and the cover of doomsday that you seem so upset over is not inaccurate: when doomsday killed supes, he had his traditional short hair. it was only when big blue came back when he sported the mullet.

  • i know this postingthis only encourages you, but you make some innacurate statements here. it's true that alex ross hated many of the 90's reboots of characters... BUT HE DID PAINT THEM AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. long-haired superman? he's done it. hook-handed aquaman? again, done it. if you don't believe me, google it. if you want to be taken seriuosly, you gotta do your research before you rant and rave.

  • your an idiot, dude. I got a great solution for you....DON'T READ ALEX ROSS's WORK! Get a girlfriend and stop complaining.

  • you stop complaing about people and insulting people and you go get a girlfriend

  • I agree the painting gets anoing heck i really didn't like Green Lantern Secret Orgins cover because it is to close to a painting and i really hate them i don't know why but i just do and i know ivan reis did the covers and interior but still it's the painting comic books that bug me

  • Uh.........Duh........Have you ever seen the guys work I think he has a little cockyness because of his talent there bucko! Go back to reading the Peanut Comic strips if you cannot hack Ross's work...The whole idea is that Ross wanted to make these iconic characters come alive and he wanted to make them as real as possible almost to the point that if they really existed his paintings are a depiction of what they would actually look like.

  • Oh and another thing is you must not understand art to well. Because all of his pieces show emotion, all of his pieces show action, all of his pieces show a realism that is uncanny...So sorry to bust your bubble their bucko!

  • Ok dude...First off Alex Ross is one of the best comic book illustrators of the 21st century. He is at the forefront of his trade. Maybe the reason why he does not paint redesigns made by other people is because he is creative and innovative and will only do the stuff that he creates. Maybe the reason why he does characters in the golden era is because that is what he does and that is his style. All you did was spit on alex Ross so maybe if you do not like his work then do not buy it, got it

  • In the Justice limited series, he drew John Stewart as Green Lantern, as well as Hal Jordan.

  • wat the hell are you on about dude !!!!!! :@ ....... alex ross is an amazing comic book artist, his style is just tottally different, like other peoples versions, look at the 90's batman, compared to batman now. its just different style, so i dont know how you could be annoyed!

  • whut hes great.

  • i agree

  • LOOK AT HIS ART! He deserves to be cocky, look at it. That's not a photo, and that's amazing. I'm glad he annoys you, because all you did was throw dirt at him.

  • agreed, alex ross is awesome !

  • @erodog yeah but what he does is take pictures of people in costumes and then paints it

  • @mattstanfweld No shit, but it looks amazing!

And that's not ALL he does.

  • Comment removed

  • ross' work is nostalgic its his trademark thats the point. books like kingdom come batman war on crime and marvels all have that to great effect sure you wouldnt wnt to see it on a daily basis but anything becomes boring if you see it to much

  • I know he did Batman Beyond..... ONCE.

  • Yeah, it doesn't fit in... He is great which we all must admit. I completly agree with you, it's for special edition stuff and he should do more covers. I don't get why he does all the old versions either. His pictures begin to see lame to me sometimes because they are all so fan-filmish. I mean, in the first volume of Justice, it has Riddler and Batman fight, when they are near this arcade... I don't know, his Batmobile even seems fan-filmish, like Burton's.

  • Well he doesn't draw the classic Wonder Woman he draws pretty much the modern version of Wonder Woman.

  • You will never see his art on a monthly basis except for cover because it takes a long time to due

  • Alex Ross is great, I love his work

  • i have to agree with you. i like alex ross work but i feel that it doesnt work for comic books. he doesnt come off as cocky to me but other than tat i have to agree with yea.

  • His work should be on display somewhere I feel. Or maybe just do covers.

  • he drew John Stewert In Justice at the end

  • Someone else said that.

  • I had never thought of him only drawing old stuff. Too bad. Now I like him much less.

  • I'm sorry if IU've hurt your enjoyment of his work.

  • whenever i think of alex ross i think of Captain marvel with his mouth open lol

  • I think of him with the big grin that looks nether happy nor evil. Just a painted grin.

  • but as i said, i respect his work and he is sure as hell very talented as an artist, but i just don't want to see his work in comics on a monthly basis.

i remember how he refused to draw batman in his black troika outfit in the 90s. so every cover work he did for the regular batman comics back then showed batman in his "year one" suit.

  • i don't like ross. i mean, i respect his stuff, and his paintings really are beautifully done, but i loathe his comicworks. his characters always totally lack any emotions, his comics are confusing to look at and his story telling is horrible. besides that, he is imo not a really nice guy, i don't like the way hee looks at comics, like he totally doesn't like the killing joke since he thinks the definite joker origin should be the one from batman '89 and that's the way everyone else should think

  • His paints do resemble Jack. But what I think is intresting is that he's long been saying that the Joker just has bleached skin and dies his hair and puts on make up. But Now that you mention it I remember him saying he liked '89's Joker better then the comics.

  • wow, i didn't knew that he interprets the joker that way, since that's pretty much the same way i see the joker. still, i remember some interview where he stated that burton's take on the joker is in many ways superior to the comics interpretation.

  • Well to be fare. If I remember corectly that inteview is on the DVD for Batman '89. Now I'm not saying he's kissing up for teh sake of the DVD but it's possible. Becaus eI can't imagine any one actually thinking the movie's origin is more complex or better then the comics.

  • I like him occasionally, like for special series, covers, etc. He's pretty easy to overdose on.

He may seem cocky, but who cares? It's the art that counts. He can easily be brought down, remember his spidey costumes he designed? Yeah.

You want to piss people off? Diss Todd McFarlane

  • I think he's great for covers.

  • alex rosses drawing is great but i think its only great for still art and the whole classic stlye is kinda anoying after a while

  • I remeber seeing a JLA poster that Alex Ross did in the 90's which he drew Superman with long hair, Batman with the circle logo, Peter David's Aquaman, and Kyle Rayner. He did drew John Stewart in Justice and was willing to draw the new Supergirl costume recently.

My only compliant against Alex Ross is the expressions he draws on characters many times are extremly cartoony and laughable.

  • do you have a picture of that poster? Or maybe a link to where I could see it?

I only read the first two issues of Justice.

  • Yeah I'll scan it tomorrow.

  • Sweet.

  • yea i have a few books with his drawings it does feel weird i like your versions too i really like the cival war's comic style drawing too i havnt seen the guy's interview i'll check it out btw not trying to sound weird but you have great speaking abbilities you sound like you had alot of practice and don't say ummm or ohhh stuff like that keep it up.

  • I say umm and ahh quite alot. Well I have like 215 videos. So I've had some practice.

  • Thats what I had a problem when reading Justice art was beatiufully but your right it feels like there just still photos.

  • YAY! It's not just me!

  • I don't like Alex Ross.

  • Really? I didn't know people who didn't like him existed lol.

  • I do or at least I think I do.

  • I don't really blame Alex Ross for being stingy since he's only doing it because he knows the Marvel/DC will bend for him anyway. I think he is a very important artist and some of his designs absolutely rule (i.e. the Batman designed to look like the 60's TV Batmobile. Genious) That said, I really only like his work when he's painting over someone like Doug Braithwrite (sp?) or George Perez beause I agree that his pencils, while amazing, are modeled and way too stiff for comics.
