So many suffer from the delusion that unemployment and poverty aren't their problem. It's so easy to become poor in this economic climate. Almost 15% of Americans are living on less than $20 a day right now. I've known some who abuse the government but that could never erase the reality of those I know actively searching for employement opportunities that aren't there. Sad.

a bit of the problem is that I have watched people work just long enough and then find a reason to get fired and then live on unemployment and then when it runs out they seem to be able to find a job only long enough again to be able to collect unemployment. I am not at all saying that everyone is doing this but so many abused the system that it ended up hurting the people that really did want to work. In the old day's people found work even if it meant cleaning toilets.

Why not government sponsored business loans for small business, temporary (6 month) minimum wage welfare for unemployed where there are no jobs, and incentives for businesses that hire full time employees and keep them for a full 6 months? The tax revenue from employed people will pay it in the end, and the money they have available to spend in the economy will recycle back to help the whole economy... is that so hard to see?

Tennessee has a history of having some great politicians but once they start showing sympathy for the less fortunate they were run out of the state.

Two examples are Davy Crocket who served in the US House & Sam Houston who served in the US House & Senate - once they stood up for the American Indians they were viciously attacked & left Tennessee.

I do sympathize with both sides. The Rep. should have better choice of words but I see where he is coming from. If ppl can come to realization that Govt. is nothing more than a monopoly of violence. Hence Govt. is violence. The good samaritan was a volunteer and didn't go to the roman govt. and demand help for the injured person, he did it himself, pure voluntarism.

@dekinono Again, the good Samaritan parable is about people helping someone not of their own religion or tribe, it is not a lesson to preclude a government helping its own people - the parable does not ruling out both personal and governmental aid being a good thing - please post the biblical injunctions against governmental helping the least fortunate of their people - but really, that doesn't sound like something Jesus would say, does it?

@davis80smusic, dont need religion or tribe to be a good samaritan. All you need is to be human. Taking food from someone elses child to give to another by use of violence is nothing but pure evil. People should help people, via other venues than govt. Churches are good examples of this, now they dont do anything but amass wealth instead of helping the poor. And no there is no biblical injuctions against and neither is there for evil to help others. Govt. is nothing but evil look at its history.
