I'm teenager almost in college now, but when I was really little my mom used to play The Samples all the time, on roadtrips and everything. I can't thank her enough for all the great music she introduced me to, especially The Samples. It's the soundtrack of my childhood!
i'll never forget driving into san francisco, twilight, crossing the golden gate bridge, and the siren sound in "summertime" faded in and i thought oh hell what am i getting stopped for - ? no room is a masterpiece - theses guys were like jellyfish...missed it by a couple years, but were aMAZing. i met andrew sheldon at the gamh :> what's up lindsay -
old or new, Jared is the coolest cat I know and he can play ANYTHING on his stingray with his eyes closed, head back and big smile! Hope the music brings love and kindness to your heart. Sean just left San Diego for CO so enjoy!
Sean, It has been a pleasure being your friend! Keep on doing what you are doing. Your best days are ahead of you! The Samples are sounding better than ever lately!
This rhythm section simply can't be beat. I recall taking some friends to see The Samples when I was in college (the mid-90s), and one in particular, a lady who didn't really enjoy them much at all, came to see how much the Jeep/Andy foundation made The Samples the powerhouse they were back then. Not to begrudge Sean's awesome songs and musicianship, but those guys rocked and were obviously irreplaceable. Magic can only last so long.
This was such a care free and magical time in my life. I was in CO for college in the early 90's....saw the Samples on a road trip to Boulder......bought "No Room" and thought that they were singing about my life. I then saw them 7 more times in the next 4 years while in CO.....saw the band change people, Sean stayed the same. I dont think the music or the talent was any better back then, it's more just equating this music with a special time when life was hard yet easy at the same time.
To fans of The Samples: this is the only song by them that I know, and I *adore* it. Can you please recommend other Sample songs I'd probably like? Thank you.
@7beers Feel Us Shaking, We All Move On, Streets in the Rain, Weight of the World, When It's Raining, Ocean of War, Waited Up, Anymore, Still Water, Sea of Broken Hearts
This is one of the best tunes, somehow, the video doesnt match. I always think of driving through the mountains or by the sea and visualizing who knows what, LOL...
Everytime I take a road trip from state to state, I make sure I drop this CD in when I start getting close to the the horizon.
I have been a Samples fan since 1989 and also miss the original lineup. They were one of the better live bands in the early 90s with their meandering versions of 'Feel Us Shaking' and 'Nature'. Since leaving the band, I think Jeep has produced some of the best music. It has that 'its good to be alive' feel that was the trademark of the first few Samples albums. Thanks for the vids.
There's alot of good ones. Some of my favorites are: Lonely Soul; Anyone; Did you ever look so nice; Lear Jet; I remember dying; Feel Us Shaking; Ocean of War; 14th and Euclid; When It's Raining; Weight of the World; Taking us Home; Misery; Wild River; Losing End of Distance; Nothing Lasts for Long; We all move on; and Little Silver Ring. There's lots more, but you'll have to check them out yourself.
I wonder what Andy Sheldon is up to these days...

as the group has said for years, "the best band you haven't heard of"...main stream media and the Samples just didn't hit it off...how sad.

I miss this original lineup. The first four albums were gorgeous.

agreed, those times were magical. but, it's my opinion that many many of their albums after that had some most beautiful music on them.
