  • the freemasons found america not him

  • maybe it's because he would have to set sail on the nearest ocean before sailing to america?

  • damn.

  • oh.

  • wait, its pointing towards africa, but its also pointing to south america! i think..

  • no, it points towards africa and the antarctica

  • nixxxon18: Looks like youll have to supplement your outstanding astronomical videos with a more (dare i say it?) down-to-earth production to educate viewers in our own planet's basic geography.

Pointing to South America as well as Africa...sigh.

Of course, hes pointing toward Antarctica as well -- since hes looking south! :-)

  • I upload random themed videos not only about astronomy. Next one may be about football probably

  • lol nice one

  • LOL! Clever find, N18 -- how did you come across this boo-boo? It should be obvious at ground level, just from compass directions.

Of course, CC didnt even know where he was back in the day, since he never admitted that he hadnt reached Asia but had stumbled upon a "new" continent. Pure serendipity -- well, not for the native inhabitants of the "New World", to be sure. I guess Christoforo still cant get his bearings to this day! Serves the bastard right.

  • Im from Barcelona. I made this video to make it clear. Indeed, there is a metaphoric meaning of the pointing... it points to the sea, meaning that Columbus ships went from the catalan coast to the atlantic ocean and to America (Columbus called it "the indias")

  • Ah, Barcelona, the Florence of Spain - city of Gaudi, of Picasso & Miro. How fortunate you are!

Perhaps the Admiral is too embarrassed by his error in reaching the "wrong" destination that he purposely looks away from its direction. But it occurs to me that if he was moved down the coast to Castellón de la Plana, he could be pointing south directly along the Prime Meridian. Since the statue was erected 4 years after the Greenwich line was agreed upon, it seems they missed a great opportunity!
