The children didn't have to know! THE CHILDREN DIDN'T HAVE TO KNOW! They could have told us that Richard had gone to heaven, we didn't need to be told he had taken drugs. I like many children of this era didn't read the News of the World back then. I remember this broadcast completely ruined this episode of Blue Peter as I was still shell shocked by this announcement while watching Stuart trecking around Uganda. Selfish, insensitive bastards!

To be fair, how else should the BBC have handled it? Just carried on with the remaining presenters with no reference to Richard Bacon at all and why he's no longer in it? Children aren't stupid, and this approach was at least honest without trying to mollycoddle them.
