  • hm have big eyes with love inside

  • Nothing seemed particularly awkward about this interview to me

  • fuck obama and his lying ads!

  • But so many actors say shit like this... 'Oh, I don't like the fame and attention. Makes me feel awkard.' But there they are going to every audition in town trying to become a movie star... and then they complain about it. He makes a good poin t- you can't have it both ways. Kristen Stewart is a good example of a moaner. Yet filthy rich too. Ryan is annoying but so is Parkinson. They just clashed. I think they probably had a disagreement beforehand and it spilled into this interview.

  • she must have upset him before the show because he was going out of his way to be annoying to her?

  • Our psychology of interviewing class saw this today. What a horrible interviewing method, even if it's supposedly 'funny'. Very rude and inconsiderate..

  • I don’t see what the big problem is with this interview. Meg Ryan answers all the questions politely. Parkinson is a pratt. He’s more interested in fooling old folk into life insurance these days.

  • I AM A VIRGIN

  • Yeah I agree that it's Parkinson here who's the awkward one. He's being very aggressive!

  • I usually really like Parkinson and think he's a great interview but he really let himself down here. Very bad technique.

    Made headlines though... well done?

  • Parkinson could easily have made this less awkward, she isn't that hard to handle. He doesn't seem sharpminded enough in this situation (I neither love nopr hate him).

  • Parkinson used to get slagged off for not being aggressive enough than other chat show host. Meg Ryan simply didn't want to be there, complete bitch.

  • i still want her grinding on my face

  • why the fuck is everyone having a go at Parkinson, ask anyone hes interviewed and they will say how nice he is, fuck you kunts.

  • WOW, Parky...awkard!

  • It seems as though Parky has taken it as a personal attack, her comments about the media, and immediately starts to defend himself about why he is somehow important. I never saw this interview, but I saw it plastered all over the papers, and Parkinson was ripping Meg Ryan to shreds saying she was his worst guest ever etc. Grow up and get on with the interview man!

  • Parkinson is, and always was, an ignorant prick, and could be extremely rude. She isnt very interesting but he is just an arse; typical Yorkshireman: blunt, ignorant, always thinks he is right.

  • I cant look at her lips without thinking why so serious

  • She made herself look stupid and should never have gone on!

  • He seemed rude. I don't blame her.

  • @MissLalove123 How so? She seemed so reticent throughout the interview. So why be there?

  • I don't feel bad at all for "celebs" but it has to be strange to go from unknown (normal) to everyone (strangers) thinking they know you in a span of weeks. Sure it comes with the territory but when it (fame) happens, it might not be as easy for some to deal with as we all might think it is. The money helps sure, but having everything you do put under the microscope of the public eye might be to much to handle for some of them.

  • He seemed to be trying to antagonize her, and make the interview uncomfortable. I found him to be quite arrogant. Can't blame her for shutting down. He wasn't asking good questions.

  • she is so fuckn hot

  • Neither of them is making this easy for each other as Meg Ryan hadn't been giving full answers as she was nervous. Parkinson had also been making her uncomfortable by never giving her any control in the conversation.

  • Parkinson is probably one of the best chat show hosts in the business (globally). Those not in the UK and check out some of the massive stars he's interviewed over the last 40 years on You Tube. However, we are not seeing the full picture here. Meg Ryan did not deserve the interview he is giving her, she was talking and replying in a seemingly friendly way. However, she does not have a great reputation and it's possible she had been rude to his backstage team and Parkinson was goading her.

  • He's the best interviewer in the business. I guess you can't get on with everyone. If she didn't like going on chat shows, why did she bother?

  • Anyone can use their status as a journalist and interviewer to make someone else look awkward if they choose to do so especially if they are really more interested in touting their own intellect. Meg remained kind throughout. The interviewer could have had the question turned on him when he asked what he should do next and been told to behave as though his position did not feed his ego.

  • The questions were easy and not rude. Meg was the one inviting the host to ask about her behavior. Meg feels she's an actress and not a movie star. All she could do was just be herself, go with the flow, put a little humor, and not pretend. Also, the way I see it- she doesn't want to be interviewed with some unknown guests on the show. She's beautiful, though.

  • What did she do to her face..

  • He was trying to make it awkward by badgering her about not liking the spotlight. He really gets on my nerves she can like acting and not like the fame it's not a big deal but he was making it one.

  • @julie77412

you are so right ,my friend!

What kind of stupid questions are that?

  • I'd always believed Meg Ryan had been the offensive in this interview. Having watched it again you can see that the old fart interviewing her is just rude. She is very talented actor and is nervous with the situation which he is making the most of. She outflanks him in the last comment re "wrapping it up" - good on you Meg. I admire her in movies and was surprised by the alleged negative attitude in this interview but Meg still rocks. PS Parky, she is sat elegantly not as you put it warily.

  • Comment removed

  • If I remember right Meg Ryan has been on Parkinson before, and there were no problems whatsoever. I think this was Mr Parkinson that screwed this up. Yes Mr Parkinson she is 'weary' of you, you brought this on yourself.

  • The problem I see is the interviewer is asking such arbitrary questions and his leaning into the guest is a little too personal. I too would be very uncomfortable with this one.

  • he doesn't like her for some reason and is asking her questions that she doesn't want to answer or talk about, silly old fart

  • Oh come on someone fire that old fart and bring someone pleasant to talk to. No one likes to be put down.

  • wow i always knew british people were assholes but this is uhhhh....awkward to say the least.

  • @reallyfun Yes, all British people are assholes. Nice generalisation there.

  • what a way to treat a guest twat

  • What a dick. What's the point of grilling her?

  • @olimario not that kind of interviewer. Serious questions not bullshit ''your latest film is fantastic'' when it just isn't. Don't like it? watch a different chat show.

  • @efcdk92 I'm just asking what the point of grilling her is. Why does she need to be put on trial for some minor discrepancy in what she said years and year prior?

I would never treat a total stranger the way this interviewer treated Meg Ryan. What a humorless, unfriendly twat.

  • @olimario Parkinson is the biggest chat show host legend ever, he is in no way a twat. Why are you arsed? a massive meg ryan fan or something? it's just like ricky gervais, some famous people deserve to be grilled and why not? it's better than the generic ass-kissing interviews as per usual.

  • I think his nature towards her is pretty unpleasant. If a guest is uncomfortable or un-co-operative there are ways to charm them round to get the best out of them and he fails miserably at this. I find him aggressive. I interviewed him once & he was very narky & un-co-operative. Very much over-rated. Disappointing.

  • @BroadwayJoe1965 he's a very respectable guy on british tv. Just because he's not completely suck up doesn't make him an ass.

  • I have no idea whats wrong here and why people spoke about this, Meg seemed fine, thats obviously just her, I've no idea what was wrong with Parky!

  • Top gear for me too lol

  • Yes I've just watched Parky on Top Gear also. Interesting reactions against him in previous comments! Haven't seen earlier footage of the interview but you wouldn't say Parky was 'rude'. It's an interview after all with 2 people both with a lot of experience in the limelight. Meg Ryan accepted to go on-He didn't abuse her or ask inappropriate questions about her private life.

  • Top gear brought me here.

  • Parkinson is a LEGEND. Just watching him on Top Gear and they just mentioned this interview and thought I'd check it out. Meg Ryan is blatantly being awkward, but not sure as to whether that is down to her being a twat or feeling so out of place and awkward being interviewed. Which she shouldn't because as she says, she is supposedly a "movie star"

  • @bourneo82 I just watched this because of Top Gear too :L

  • lol i am an uk girly

  • Meg, though, seemed open and clever. I think she did well in this interview.

  • It's the hair that looks like it's been hacked off with school scissors in manic phase in the dark that bothers me. It even looks like a wig.

  • I think Parkinson lacks a sense of humour and a sense of humanity...it's as if he doesn't like the people he invites on his show....for goodness sake.

Whoever told him he has skills as an interviewer was sadly mistaken.

  • I think he was really agressive with her. I'm British, and I saw it at the time, and I'm still today mystified by Parkinson's reaction. Now seeing it again on youtube, I still can't see anything in her reactions that says she's not playing the interview game, as he suggests. I've seen him talk about it since on other shows, and it seems to have become a foregone conclusion on British TV that he was right and that Meg Ryan's a fruitcase. I don't think it's her with the problem.

  • I saw Parkinson interviewing Clint Eastwood after a film around the time of this interview - he's a really bad interviewer - terrible questions... Poor research.

  • They all pretend like they fell into acting or it found them, and because that's clearly impossible, she deadpans her answers to turn it into a joke. Interviewers never dig deep, they just focus on "oh you hate stardom," but once you keep picking at it the lying actor gets scared- evidenced when Meg doesnt have a straight answer when he asks further. (who quits school with a semester left?) Shes an actress for fucks sake, she can put on a goddam performance in an interview. They all do.

  • You guys can't judge Meg without seeing the FULL interview - Parkinson was an arrogant, defensive arsehole from the start who got precious when Meg confronted him with some fascinating ideas about relationships. He's a fucking dinosaur.

  • @Messylin

agreed, I saw the whole thing a while back and Parkinson was acting like a dick IMO, and I'm not a fan of either so no bias on my part.

To me, Parkinson sounds more like a cop interrogating his guests more than a interviewer, whose supposed to make their guests feel welcomed and comfortable. I'd come off as nervous as Meg is if someone talked to me in that accusing tone too

  • @Messylin Those ideas aren't fascinating, they're defunct. Also, due to "In the Cut", being a crap film, she can't relate these ideas properly. And, more importantly, she is really horrible to Trinny and Susanna, who seem really nice. In fact, her behavior to Parkinson is really quite rude, it is the classic infallibility complex that Hollywood actors develop, Russell Crowe is a case in point. Funny how all the work dries up when you treat people like shit.

  • @lucca161 - excuse me? How are you alone qualified to call those ideas of Jane Campion "defunct"? They were challenging and if you can't take that, you're anti-intellectual.

  • @Messylin Ur right,.Parkinson is being a dick..

  • @Messylin DINOSAURS EXTINCTED MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO.

  • hmz just turned 18 and want to learn what fun is all about

  • This is a great interview. Parkinson is brilliant and a legend for a reason.

  • so i am a lonely girl from the uk

  • never seen this before!dont rate parkys interviewing tequnique at all here its upto him

to make his guests feel comfortable and he did completely the opposite!

  • @BroadwayJoe1965 Mike Parkinson is bigger than him. Who is James Lipton anyway? I've heard of Lipson's tea and Maureen Lipton, an English/Jewish actress?! You were probably still in diapers or not born when that "old dude" was interviewing the likes of Muhammed Ali and folks on Hollywood's A list were queuing to be on his show for about 30 years. There's Jay Leno & an old American guy, but I never see or saw consistently A celebs on them. Ryan shouldn't have been allowed on

  • Michiael Parkinson's interviee list reads like a list of who's who in the film, politics, and sports world and reads like a list of who's who in the entertainment and establishment world. He's interviewed Cassius Clay then Muhammed Ali, Kissinger and others and I would think that it was often the "great and good" - and those with heads stuck up their arses like Ms Ryan there - who requested to go on his show to bask in the limelight of those who went before. He's a bigger star than them often!

  • Comment removed

  • Ditto

  • Sorry, he is enough to make anyone uncomfortable

  • @SereneandPeaceful

What do you expect him to do when someone go's voluntarily to his show that greater people than Ms Hawn have patronised, amd some near hollywood starlet (wanting the publicity) decides to act as though she's too good to be there and too high and mighty even to admit she's an actress - barely. If she didn't want to be there then she shouldn't have wasted the good man's time. Parkinson doesn't need people like that and nor do the British public, nor TV license payers, etc.

  • He is the one that doesn't have the graciousness of making HIS guest feel comfortable

  • @SereneandPeaceful

    I agree.

  • hes just being funny. hes british, different type of humor.

  • Lost all respect for Parkinson after this interview. Horrible, horrible man. I'm not a fan of Meg Ryan but how dare he make someone feel so uncomfortable on Tv. He did nothing but insult her in this. Arrogant, obnoxious man.

  • @ZoDaHoe Are you kidding? He basiclly asked why she wanted to be a journalist, that is not a hard question. She's just a bit retarded and doesn't know what weary means..

  • @ZoDaHoe I think he was trying to be funny in a deadpan way to begin with?

  • @BroadwayJoe1965 Who's James Lipton? Parkinson was around for 36 years: /wiki/Parkinson_(TV_series)

  • @gicronin Just read his wiki page. But never heard of him

  • @gicronin american much?

  • @Andyroo119 If I was American, surely I'd know Lipton and not Parkinson?

  • trumped up bitch

  • He was being an ass IMO. He seems not to have got answers he liked, she didn't play up to him either, and when the interview technique didn't work he had a go at her clothes. He came across as an arrogant arse.

  • @richt48 He'd "wound up" the interview as he suggested. Some people are dumb in their partisanship. She shouldn't have been there if she wanted sycophancy. Go to an American chat show, not a no nonsense, but charming Yorkishireman's show who asks intelligent questions, no matter who you are. I guess "intelligence" is the operative word. I don't wonder why she flunked Journalism. She should have apologised for being awkard is she were off form, not to to make him look bad!!

  • If you wanna see another awkward interview look up Ricky Gervais meets Gary Shandling, painfully awkward.

  • Meg is always kind and is a good actress

  • The truth of the matter is, these American "celebrities" are so used to being on shows in the states where the interviewer is practically licikn their arsehole. Phrases like "you look amazing" yourmovie/song etc is amazing, you are an amzing person for what you do etc, so when Meg gets asked some probing questions and questions that are actually interesting she cant handle it.

  • @XXgav123xx, oh please, these Brits were acting odd. No one would know what to say to them. It was like an ambush.

  • @ShaytanBozorg HAHAH, really? You guess you are american then?

  • @Hallelujahkay, Yes, I am. I know the Euros idea of decency is much different than in the USA. I lived in the UK and they're very hateful to Americans. The only reason your nasty Euros like this video is to hatemonger on the American. You're like a mob.

  • Comment removed

  • @XXgav123xx He wasn't really asking her anything interesting, it was like a drunk old Uncle at Christmas asking the younger people at the table lots of dull fluff. Also a lot of the time Parkinson rambles and doesn't actually ask anything. It's a shame, looking back at his interviews with Muhammed Ali and other people he was very good in his prime.

  • its painfull to watch!!

  • parkinson just ambushed her...yes she may not like giving interviews, but i think she was just being her and answering truthfully...dont think parkinson personally likes her..maybe she didnt fall at his feet before hand or maybe he felt intimidated by her..whatever, dont think meg was being a bitch here.

  • I think she's use to softball questions she can give bullshit answers to.

  • EYEA HaveeVA Ah Park kin Sins Dee Zzzzzz

  • @BlameItOnTheWhiteMan your just fucking retarded

  • I find it odd that the interviewer was using this harsh, relentless, expose' style of interviewing with an actress best known for romantic comedies. She is not a dictator, a dirty politician or business person, a criminal or any other slick can't-pin-me-down sort that might have required this hard-nosed approach. It's misplaced and appears downright combative. I think Ms. Ryan's reaction was quite fitting actually. I would have gotten off stage.

  • @gdoreen75 excellent post, i feel the same. Parkinson is being a total dick here

  • @ronnie2407 No he isn't. He's doing what he always did, giving an intervew. She's frigid.

  • @rapperpv7 He didn't have to persecute her for that. He made out like being a little unsure of herself was a crime, was preposterous

  • Such a shame what Meg did to her face. She didn't have giant lips before but she looked natural & so cute & lovely just the way she was. Now she just looks like a freak, it would be so good if she could undo this look. She even looks like she is aware that people must be staring at how unnatural she looks now to the point it's hard to listen to what she is really saying. It's like overnight it seems she went from being one of the most adored actresses to just looking freaky. A real shame.

  • i can see nose work ... whho else?

  • well he's obviously persuing questions she doesn't want to answer, i mean at the beginning when they're talking about the movie it's less awkward and then parkinson starts with the whole accusing 'you're wary of me' thing, and in my opinion that is pretty rude.

  • I love how serious and real she is

  • @SexyRaww that better be a fucking joke

  • Comment removed

  • THIS WOMAN IS A weido DONT YOU THINK AS I REMEMBER THIS PROGRAMME

  • doesnt matter :)

  • who's sitting next to her?

  • I'm a useless fat cunt, but wouldn't anyone with a modicum of brain ask someone who is nervous/unhappy being interviewed some wierd and wonderful questions, rather than this bland tripe? About 3 or 4 questions were about the same subject. What a right load of old tosh! Guaranteed over 50 plan? Tosh!

  • This is only part of the interview, which started light heartedly. Meg was clearly in a bad mood from the start. I quickly gained the impression that she was only on the show to promote her new movie. I doubt many interviewers would have handled her any better.

  • Trout faced twat. Don't agree to interviews if you dont want to speak

  • She was absolutely fine lol he was being a bit harsh to her.

  • Meg was fine. It's just a BBC twitty moment one of many.

  • stuck up over liked rude (bad) actress

  • She could have acted as if she liked being there...I certainly have had to at her films.

  • With respect, it is also the skill of the interviewer to make the interviewee feel comfortable and find an area the subject feels comfortable with. Meg Ryan obviously feels nervous, stage fright possibly. Parkinson realises it's a tricky interview and is clearly nervous about it - hence he asks very bland questions and the tone of his voice stays roughtly the same... Not the best interview.

  • Omg this makes me really angry, he's making her feel really awkward, I usually love parky but this is just cruel!!!

  • Wow he did stop and clearly attack her though at the end that was kind of rude. I can see how she didn't open up from the start. sometimes I know how it feels to just want to be quiet. Kind of speak for yourself in silence and not need to be pushy like other people, you know?

  • Wow he did stop and clearly attack her though at the end that was kind of rude. I can see how she didn't open up from the start.

  • She is clearly introverted, and finds it harder than others to put on a front. She's just shy and seems like an honest person, which is probably why she couldn't come up with an answer for the last question. I doubt she would be there if she didn't really want to be there, she came on obviously not expecting that to happen. Parkinson was slightly aggressive towards the end.

  • @talkwench you can't say all yorkshire people are arrogant - some may be but lots of people all over the world are arrogant, despite where they're from.

My question is, why did she come on the show? I feel awkward for her but then surely she knew that she'd be in front of an audience on tv?

  • I thought she was fine actually, he was a bit agressive!

  • i always thought meg ryan was rude to parky, only after i have watched the interview i realised he made her feel uncomfortable. i can relate to her arkwardness.

  • JackLives, He's actually having a much more insightful/ bla bla conversation with her THAN not then, than is comparing things ,events Etc. then refers to time check your dictionary. Sorry to be such a pedant ,but this then /than thing is always happening in american english and it bothers me

  • She just don't like parky, lets face it, who does? glad he retired. She's a nervous person give her a break, don't think parky helps at all, he was actually rude. If you see her on Ellen, she's great! Still nervous but great.

  • I think her nerves got the better of her. I really feel for her here, I bet she was cringing and kicking herself so much for this. Pms too possibly? lol , I think she tried, but she felt too "on the spot" and just felt out of her comfort zone. We've all had experiences when we've been overly defensive and offish when perhaps we shouldn't.

  • Where's the batman, I can see the joker!!!! Help! Where's the batman?

  • I heard all sorts about this but upon viewing it Parkinson pissed her off unfairly so fuck him, no wonder she's frozen up based on his attacking questions.

  • Personally, I think in this clip he was being far too personal and prying. When he calls her out on being wary of journalists and keeps going with it, I don't see what the point was. She's just an actress- and he's grilling her like she's a politician who has been covering things up.

  • What's Meg Ryan's problem?

    Stupid woman

  • Parkinson arrogant as ever but then he is from Yaaarkshire

  • I can only empathise with Michael here, she was a very difficult guest, but he still showed her due respect in a professional manner. This is further evidence that Sir Michael is by far Britain's best journalistic broadcaster.

  • @WiseOwlOfGallifrey

I wish we had him over here in America. He's great.

  • Momma said there would be days like that. There would be days like that momma said.

  • can someone actually recall the times when Meg Ryan was a sweet romantic looking young woman shes still playing to this day? She seems to me like a wax doll.

  • whatever bout the interview it's very funny

  • TheFlipster10 - Is there a problem with being knighted for a job you enjoy? I'm certain most people enjoy doing the things for which they are knighted, are they not?

  • it shows that Meg Ryan does not have any distance to herself and she can't handle an inteligent conversation. Parkinson is great as always.

  • I love Parkinson.

  • I think all the thumbs up are for Michael Parkinson, and the thumbs down are for Meg Ryan.

  • I didn't think she was overly rude.. I think she is a little socially awkward, and trying to handle the situation. Some people do fine filming, but have a little more trouble doing the live stuff. Also, we have no idea what went on that day. WHo knows, maybe she got bad news, or wasn't feeling well.

  • @4stephkim4

then that other guest made a stupid comment about her shoes... you can tell she felt vulnerable about that too... but just that other lady's body language and attitude would have been enough for me.... yikes... so rough... this business...

  • Why the hell stars come on shows to no talk is beyond me. Did someone threaten her family and make her do it? I guess so.

  • why did Meg Ryan mess up with her lips! she was already beautiful!

  • @atesal I know right?? she was pretty back then

  • meg is an ex movie star, problem is, she doesnt realise this.

  • He should have changed the subject; it was obviously making her anxious and she was reluctant to speak because of that. She wasn't being difficult at all.

  • She seems to have her own issues about being in the spotlight in front of a live audience. My verdict on this is that she is painfully shy and slightly paronoid and it comes across as her being rude ?

  • Compare this interview to her interview with Ellen on Youtube.....what the f***k was wrong with her attitude here? Parky didn't ask her anything difficult.

  • She went from "America's sweetheart" to looking like "the Joker" in several short years.

  • @faffaflunkie That's so vile of you !!!!!! i'd like to know what you will look like when you will be her age ?

  • @uconnbb15 ....ha ha ha... what a joke you crazy yank! Michael Parkinson is an excellent interviewer and always has been, Meg Ryan was just plain and utter rude.

  • i've just watched this interview and the famous "sexist" interview parkinson did with hellen mirren back in the day and neither of them show parkinson being in any way sexist or rude. If anything, they show a bit of fustration on his part of asking easy and simple questions that anyone else would be able to answer, but not getting even a decent answer that might spawn further conversation. I dont get why she laughed and got uncomfortable when he asked what type of journalist she mightve been :S

  • hmmm...an interviewrer asking personal questions, ourageous! she should stick to her own guys like Larry King who would ask probing, revealing questions like "who is your favourite actress?" or "which roles did you enjoy the most?", nice easy shit...Parky has been successful cos more often than not he leaves all that mundane crap behind and gets closer to the bone, she shouldve known that...good cringe-worthy TV!!!
