  • This TV news theme was also the first theme of Channel 2 Action News on WSB-TV in Atlanta (when Newsroom was replaced by Channel 2 Action News circa 1973) and the middle one of the themes used during the former Channel 8 Action News era on WTNH, New Haven (part of the Hartford, CT market). They both used the cut that plays the theme one time only with "ba-ba-ba" vocals to open.

  • Harber 2008 is correct. WPIX Channel 11 Action News used this theme, though not this cut, if I'm correct, from 1974 to 1982. Signal overlapping in areas northeast of Manhattan, WTNH, New Haven used this theme up to several years ago when Channel 8 Action News was replaced by Newschannel 8. This theme has been used by many stations, both in the US and beyond. It was the first Channel 2 Action News theme on Atlanta's WSB-TV (1972 - 1977 after Newsroom was replaced).

  • WKBW-TV in Buffalo still uses this music for their "Eyewitness News" broadcast and bumper segments.

  • @Poltr1:

You might like this one also, if you havne't seen it already.

  • Nice info on the history of the theme... I think it will always be associated primarily with Philly and WPVI but it is cool to learn where it got its start....

  • wstm-tv 3 in syracuse, ny used this from 1993-1995

  • wokr tv 13 in rochester used this great theme in like 74

  • It certainly was. Most of the time WPIX used it, it was mixed to mute out the chorus.

  • Yeah. "Move Closer to Your World v.7"

  • I believe this version was also used by WPIX-TV New York (now known as the CW11) back in the late '70s to early '80s.

  • Yes it was. Thanks for mentioning it.

  • @Harber2008

WPXI-TV Pittsburgh also used this version back in the 80s and early 90s.

  • Brings back so many warm memories of home....philadelphia...

  • Glad you like it. I might post t least one more version of the theme--a "bumper" type cut that may/may not have been used in the past by other stations in between segments.
