  • It's a wonderful site to see these old girls on the road Perhaps some of them prat drivers should slow down and watch instead of trying to kill them selfs

  • I didn't see a steam engine in trouble, but I did see a lot of English drivers who would be right at home in Atlanta, GA. Yep, we've got'em here, too. Beautiful engine and it looked like it was performing as designed.

  • That is awesome! I'd love to see that in person!

  • HOW REDNECK.

  • @hawver7765 YOUR COMMENT IS REDNECK, REDNECK

  • @wisheywashey that was funny i have to say.

  • I can only hope that the guy driving the black Focus was reported to the police for dangerous driving!

  • so many questions...........

  • Correct me if I am wrong but not one of the ignorant motorists indicated as they inpatiently passed the traction engine

  • THIS IS AN AWESOME VIDEO I LOVED IT!! I live in the state of ILLINOIS A FARM STATE,,,and I have always wanted to get a ride on one of these,, is this an oringal what year is it,, whats its top speed,,just guessing how much power does one of these steam engines really have ,, what all can they pull,,,rubber on the tires is that oringal or was that added on to protect the metal wheels while driving on a modern road,,man I love this thanks for sharing

  • the day i stop loving steam engines, is the day a traction engine gets nicked for speeding

  • Good vid ....We had one of these runs here in New Zealand a few years ago...heaps of traction engines doing a run in the Sth Is of NZ. great to see ,,,,,

  • great engine for sure, but what's all this going forward down hills?

  • It's a Marshall, not a Case,Frick, N&S,Minneapolis etc,so no problem.

  • @oldsteamguy WTF, do you expect them to do a u-turn at the top of each hill and reverse the caravan down the otherside lol?

  • This is the funniest thing I'v seen in a long while!

That potential (pipe-bomb) is WAY COOL!

Your just pissin everyone off!...And smiling all the way!...You shur your not an American? ROCK ON!!! If my family saw me pull up with my camper driving that thing..they would shit gold bricks!!!!

  • I would love to be stuck behind, listening to that 'stack talk'.

  • great machine. stupid drivers heading straigh for an accident. espically the truck.

  • hence why there's rubber tire on these You need a Triangle "slow moving vehicle" sign on it lol

  • that legal to run on roads? I saw the steel tires had rubber on them

  • in the UK it is perfectly legal to drive these on the roads,,,in the US it is perfectly legal to drive these on the roads also, just as long as you dont mess the roads up,,,,

  • @wisheywashey Sadly i don't think it's legal in it's current form to run on the public roads here in Oregon. For one i know for a fact it would need a slow moving vehicle sign attached to it. That's no problem. but i'm not sure if it needs flashers of some sort. i know i was required to have them on all the more modern tractors and combines i drove in high school (mostly brand new, but some dating back to the 50's and 60's).

  • @salemcripple You only need a slow moving vehicle sign, and rubber on the wheels and you can drive a steam tractor on any road in Oregon. I drive vintage farm machinery on roads all the time in Oregon... never had an issue.

  • @TheIhredpower oh! Well thank you for informing me.I was just speaking out of personal experience. But like i said, the oldest tractor i ever drove was about a 1955 (somewhere around there).

  • i wish our engines here in the US ran that fast, i would ever have to load another one again.

  • Hi sccrgy44, The Engine you see in the video is now based in Minnesota, It will be appearing at some shows near the twin cities soon

  • @wisheywashey oO? How do you move one of those over sea's?

  • amazing!!!

    muy bueno

  • i want one

  • Pretty impressive, the ultimate in alternative SUV culture. Scarey to think using a steam powered thing down such hills - What if the water level goes too low and the plugs melt? I'm sure it's made to take steeper grades then the locomotives in MS train simulator, but even then.

  • Thanks for your comment, when going down hills, one has to be careful, there are a few things you have to be mindful of, firstly have plenty of water in the boiler, for me thats almost up to the top of the glass, and try not have a raging fire, close the damper to check it, if the hill is especially steep and long, go down backwards, but i have never had to do this, and no problem with the plug so far,

  • so to get the engine rolling do you use the same technique as you would a locomotive? like put the reverser full forward and open the regulator to about half? then when u pick up some speed start winding the reversing back to like a quarter when you reach desired speed?

  • well pretty much yes, that's how its done, pulling back on the reversing lever(eccentric lever)cuts off the amount of steam getting into the cylinders, doing this allows the steam in the cylinder to expand independently of the boiler pressure, this gives a saving in fuel and water, it must be remembered though that the steam exhausting from the HP cyl goes to the receiver for the lp cyl, therefor cutting off the steam to the hp negates to a degree the gains one would obtain from a compound engine

  • What kind of brakes we talking about here? I mean a steep grade and do you kind of hope for no sharp turns or what?

  • It does have rudimentary brakes, used for checking the engine on grades, but If ya need to stop in an emergency just pull back on the reversing lever and it will stop very fast.

  • I would love to do that.

  • The car driver & Lorry driver are ignorant assholes ,& if they keeps driving like that will be seeing their maker sooner than later .

  • Mmmmmm yes! Any one who dislikes the raw power of a steam engine is stone-cold queer. When was this beast constructed? Also, I'm surprised by the total lack of respect that the drivers have. Are people really like this over there?

  • 1921 was the year, yes the average turkey is in too much of a hurry to give way a bit, but thats life for you

  • I think I heard one of you make the statement of "wanker" and I agree - anyone passing on a curve in a high traffic area there of over here is a wanker and will get someone killed. I love things from the turn of the 20th century to the middle, I remember seeing steam and electric trains in Chicago growing up there, and have seen some non-restored but still in use steam steam and kerosene tractors as a kid. I live in rural KY and people let the old iron rust away here, or scrap it.

  • @DoughboyWWI Everyone overtaking on a double white line is breaking the law. If an accident occurs they will pay!

  • Hey bluehachiroku, You sound like a liberal asshole, who gives a shit what you think, fucking twat,,,

  • ur aloud to do that>?

  • Ya sure are, but for how long is anybody's guess

  • this is better than top gear!

  • Glad ya like it

  • OK Boys and Girls, and old men, please keep your comments clean, Berrald or what ever your name is, Thank you for your comment, but I have as much right to be on the queens highway as you or anyone, this is an example of the best of British engineering, My suggestion to you is, get a life and have some pride in your heritage

  • Nice one Dan!

  • That is one neat video clip and really well shot, you a pro cameraman, great bit of filming and a grand engine,10 out of 10.

  • Can it be geared to go a little faster?

  • It can be "geared" to goto the moon,,,but why would you want to?,,,

  • I figured 15-20mph might be better for "traveling".

  • i like 7mph, fits just right

  • trade off between speed and tractive effort

  • nice one

  • Man that ford was crazy, its a nice sight coming over the hills, heh, dont you get a lot of problems from cars?

  • Yeah some aholes don't know how to drive.

  • what were you burning?

  • coal

  • ahh cool

i do a fest and we bail / thrash

we got a old waterloo in there.

  • where is the show?

  • uh

in a small town in canada, ontario

    its called Marshville.

  • Emagine the shock of comeing over the hill, or around the corner, and seeing this Bohemith comeing at you!!! Cool vid though! They won't let us drive'em on the roads in the US.

  • u can drive them on roads here in US, ya just cant drive them on the roads with the grouters as they will wreck the roads,,, remove grouters or cover them with rubber and off ya go

  • are you going to dorset this year because i am

  • No gdsf this year

  • i meant engine sorry

  • engines are kept at Chatham, I attend Tinkers Park, GDSF and a few others,

  • its a very nice organ do you take it to many rallies

  • every time i attend rallys I bring my organ :-)

oh and I bring my engine too

  • do you own this engine

  • yes

  • where are the airbags and seatbelts, i suppose the crumplezones are on other peoples cars,or maybe ARE other cars, internal combustion`s for wimps.

  • I would have given the guy in the black car the finger as he drove by.. that would have added to the video 10-fold... lol

  • De lo mejor que he visto felicidades

  • that looks like a killer machine xD

  • My favorite video out of the lot! Thanks for sharing.

  • Is that a Foden?

  • Nope, its a marshall

  • Fun to see your videos. Very nice. Way to hold up traffic Patrick! Have fun when you go home in a week or so. Mary & Dan.

  • i wood love to drive one,

  • For those among you who are wondering what the screeching at 2:50 is,,well its the band brakes locking down on the axel drum to help check the speed on the down hill grade

  • My family has had an old steam Case on the farm...and we're going to start to have it restored...but the "American" counterparts of your machine just don't have "the look" of it. I am going to come to the Dorset Steam fair in August and enjoy a little steaming...Do they give classes there on how to run one? Safety?

    From what

How much would a road engine be valued at? I take it considerably more than a agricultural engine..

  • Tremendous !, Has she got a name and is she appearing at any rallys this year ?. I think a proper steam living van would set her off but I must say the Monza Classic has real class ! Nice one, I'm not jealous....much !

  • Glad U like it, she has no name, will be in steam at Festival of transport at Chatham steam centre over Easter, Tinkers park in June? and perhaps Great Dorset Steam Fair in August/September

  • Nice one, See you at Dorset in the RAT (Real Ale Tent) for a bit of Dr Busker then ?. I've got it back to front I have a steam living van but no traction engine. Any chance of being the steersman around the play pen ?

  • Any chance?--no chance, but you can still buy me a beer in the RAT! :-)

  • I was gonna protest about the strange hobbys crack, But why? it is a bit odd, and i love it!

  • I wonder if its registered to be used on the road but still very lovely.

  • Will do 9mph in comfort up to 15 mph, but thats pushin it and is hard on both man and machine

  • Thats a very interesting Traction Engine.

What make is it? What HP?

  • Marshall 3 speed Road Loco 6 NHP (nominal horse power)

  • 3 speed? Wow. I operate a Case 65 Bobtail here in California. One speed. haha

  • Feel free to comment on this video

  • Looks like fun but, is it legal to drive on the roads?

  • Absolutely!, Traction engines are treated just like any road vehicle, in the UK it is insured for the road and carries a road tax disk,

  • Bet it's a little rough on the pavement though with the metal wheels LOL. I've been on Caterpillar bulldozers that had rubber track pads and it's still a rough ride for the pavement and the people on the vehicle. I cant fathom how the Amish around here deal with metal rimmed wooden wagon wheels on the asphalt, has to be a hard ride. Of course all of these vehicles (steam engine, horsdrawn wagons, etc) are made for unpaved roadways but still do well on hard roads. Thanks for the video.

  • Legal here in the US too unless the roads are marked no agricultural equipment, etc like the freeways are. No tax on the agricultural vehicles like they do in the UK though.

  • that is such a cool engine if i saw that i would follow it for miles

  • Thats quite an engine, who was it manufactured by?

  • great stuff.
