  • Just for the historical music record, this hit sixties song was not written by Jay Justin alone as credited. It was written in 1963 by the songwriting team of Joe Halford and Jay Justin, as was the flip-side "Stompin' at Maroubra." Joe Halford, former general manager of EMI publishing Australia, also produced this double-sided hit, along with sixties classics for Jay Justin such as "Proud of You," and "Reminiscing", which Halford and Justin also co-wrote. Thank you for posting!

  • This Wonderful.

  • This was #2 in the charts, beaten only by 'I Want To Hold Your Hand'. Thats pretty impressive!!

  • Little Pattie Still Rules!

  • Oh get over yourself, TheCtrlr! America isn't the only country with a surfing culture and songs written about surfing. If people in a certain continent in the NH (gosh; just say it--Australia) enjoyed this song and have fond memories of it, then let 'em have it. Afterall, It's just an itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny song for God's sake...

  • I just encountered this title today in a book on surfing history, and had a difficult time believing this could have been an actual recorded song.

This YouTube posting, of course, proves that the song really did exist. The "stompie wompie" part, as can be heard, gets a little garbled as Little Pattie has to rush through the lyrics.

  • i spent 2 hours with her today! shes very nice

  • One of the greatest Pop songs to ever come out of Australia.

  • One of the greatest Pop songs to ever some out of Australia.

  • Oh dear... It sounds EXTREMELY derivative of US music of the same time... but not nearly as good...

  • @shmuli9 who?

  • @possessivetoast Diane Ray, Linda Scott, Marcie Blaine, any of the early 60s US and Canadian female singers... (Though I suppose that whole "beach sound" thing was popular in Australia, too...
