This movie was great! And I'm glad it won Best Picture...but as @AmericanPowerBase said...Hollywood isn't accurate. But..this is an independent film.. and for once..it sorta was a tiny bit accurate. Not a ton though. I don't think there are THAT many explosions...but hey. I've never been a soilder. So I could be wrong
11 EOD use a machine about 10x the size of that stupid bomb disposal machine and the defuse the bomb by shooting a high powerd water gun though the bomb which destroys the chip and defuses the bomb! silly movie, but still liked it ^^

Soldiers are under strict guidelines on whether or not they can shoot a person and can get sued if they shoot the wrong person. Say he suspected that guy of having a trigger and shot him, when he was just an average guy. The soldier would have been sued.

That movie was nothing more than a mediocre propaganda film that was aimed at dehumanizing the Middle Eastern population. It presents every Iraqi as a culmination of preexisting stereotypes. I dont know how this movie won so many awards. It was shit. It makes sense that America wants to make Iraqis seem like hoards of shallow charicatures with no personlities, domestic lives, emotions etc. Its easier to wage war on a society when you don't try to understand the people as people.

However keep in mind that movies need to have a certain mood to them: The movie isn't meant to show the humble and kind average citizens. It is meant to be a high-tension atmosphere. Most movies play off stereotypes; there is not enough time in a 2-3 hour movie to present a broader spectrum. I have heard the movie is kick ass. Our culture is FUCKED-UP though, and it's a shame that this movie may be contributing to it.

There are a few scenes that I thought went beyond just showing them as mobs of people like in most war films, and instead profiling them with negative stereotypes. You decide. Um why would the US military issue a large caliber sniper rifle to EOD guys? Dude you just can't grab a weapon like that and use it like an expert. Seriously dude the military doesn't issue sniper rifles to random inf dudes. Hell they aren't even front line combat troops. Now what would make more sense is a sniper ATTACHED to that unit. But honestly that whole scene had Hollywood written all over it.

And like I said in my previous post, James was a former Ranger, which makes it highly probable he is qualified. We don't know enough about Sanborn, but no evidence says he couldn't make the shot.
Snipers also work in pairs, unlike squad designated marksmen.
They picked it off the checky British PMC, who just shot the 2 dudes trying to escape. I hope that proves I watched the movie. I just don't like the idea of EOD or rangers, simply picking up a sniper rifle, and using it accurately. I understand they are in the military, but they aren't snipers. Lets just say I'm totally wrong, and that was the most realistic scene ever. The rest of the movie was terribly unrealistic. Don't get me wrong I liked it, but its not realistic.

I talked to my school counselor who was infantry in the Army about the danger of IEDs and the robots used to dispose of them. he said that sometimes EOD don't come close to the bomb and instead detonate it by shooting them up with an anti-material rifle.
Ya that's true, if you can spot the IED however. The early half of the movie was realistic, but the later half was just an action movie. A very good action movie.
James was a Ranger before he joined EOD. That's Army Special Forces. Sanborn was an intelligence tech, but not much else is said about their past.
It is highly probably James received sniper clearance at Fort Benning. Although we don't know enough about how advanced shots they are. There is nothing to suggest that they WOULDN'T be able to spot and shoot the bad guys.

Lo demas que afirmas, se me hace una visión POLITICA bastante pobre de tu parte, no necesariamente todos estos temas belicos son pro-USA, pero esno no lo entenderías.

I love the movie but just hate a lot of the things that aren't accurate...he has a Aimpoint M68 CQO "Close Quarters Optic" on his weapon...it does not have magnification!...He would see the guy with the phone the same as looking with the naked eye!

Hitler then broke the pact he and Stalin had signed since he could catch the Russians off guard and there were many valuable resources to be had.
The Russians were very nearly destroyed until they made a stand at Stalingrad (which is now Volvograd BTW).
So to say Russia had to distract Hitler is incorrect. Russia was betrayed by Hitler and ultimately joined forces with the U.S and other allies.

Germany was pancaking Europe unti D-day... in which American forces joined the Brits and stormed into France, Belgium and Poland. The Brits were on their heels though, especially after their operation market garden went to hell.

Um why would the US military issue a large caliber sniper rifle to EOD guys? Dude you just can't grab a weapon like that and use it like an expert. Seriously dude the military doesn't issue sniper rifles to random inf dudes. Hell they aren't even front line combat troops. Now what would make more sense is a sniper ATTACHED to that unit. But honestly that whole scene had Hollywood written all over it.

But I'll give you a benefit of a doubt and assume you missed the part where they picked the Barrett off a dead PMC.
And like I said in my previous post, James was a former Ranger, which makes it highly probable he is qualified. We don't know enough about Sanborn, but no evidence says he couldn't make the shot.
Snipers also work in pairs, unlike squad designated marksmen.

They picked it off the checky British PMC, who just shot the 2 dudes trying to escape. I hope that proves I watched the movie. I just don't like the idea of EOD or rangers, simply picking up a sniper rifle, and using it accurately. I understand they are in the military, but they aren't snipers. Lets just say I'm totally wrong, and that was the most realistic scene ever. The rest of the movie was terribly unrealistic. Don't get me wrong I liked it, but its not realistic.

I talked to my school counselor who was infantry in the Army about the danger of IEDs and the robots used to dispose of them. he said that sometimes EOD don't come close to the bomb and instead detonate it by shooting them up with an anti-material rifle.

James was a Ranger before he joined EOD. That's Army Special Forces. Sanborn was an intelligence tech, but not much else is said about their past.
It is highly probably James received sniper clearance at Fort Benning. Although we don't know enough about how advanced shots they are. There is nothing to suggest that they WOULDN'T be able to spot and shoot the bad guys.

i disagree, just saw this movie and it was BRILLIANT.
for directing alone..besides the realistic chemistry between the actors, the suspense, the music, the sound, the action, the story.
BRILLIANT MOVIE.
Kathryn Bigelow was there too and she explained alot of questions VERY WELL.
she is so intelligent, and REALLY cares about her art. (she was once a painter, and you can somehow tell that by watching this movie).
The movie was so beautiful at moments my eyes almost watered from excitement!
