@forestfingerboarder you may not be in just the right place. ;) i would LOVE to explore Texas!! don't give up looking! are you in the country or city? how far are you from the desert?
woah there buddy. you dont have to be so mean. it dont have to be that way. you could be nice to da snake an i'llechapickeemup. but seriously stop handling reptiles like toys. yeah that snake has damaged scales, you just raked its soft underbelly through the claws of a juniper!
@spiritseeker4 Your computer must be F'd up. I don't see any pixelation. Looks fine. Awesome snake Dylan. I've seen them way bigger though. I don't think it's full grown.
I caught my first Blue Racer last year (I live in Northern Ohio on Lake Erie) and bit up the same way you did...
I've been herping my whole life, but really steady for the last 15 years (I'm 26) and I have only caught one Blue Racer, which was last year. Actually caught it on Oct. 4th...which is awfully late.
This was one of our first videos. We didn't have a proper camera at the time. This was shot on a Sony Cybershot 5 Megapixel camera. Terrible terrible quality.
I caught a blackracer once I kept it for about a week.My dad said it probably wouldnt eat since it was wild but i threw a lizard in there and the next morning it was gone
i have been bitten by a racer about 35 years ago. i realized it didn't want to be handled so i immediately let it go it's way. since then i usually don't try to handle a snake unless it's on a road where it will have to be peeled later. have rescued over 500 snakes from roads but have had to peel over 10,000. wish people would just leave them be. they are beautiful beneficial sensitive characters. many are rare or endangered now because of us, our pets, our cars
Another myth is that they chase you. If you corner them or put them in a situation where they cant get away, they will charge you to confuse you. They will then make a sharp turn and get away.
Some people also think they are endangered. There are a few states where they are endangered, but most places they are a very common snake. The snake species as a whole is not on the endagered species list.
That was a beautiful and healthy specimen you caught there.
Actually that is not a full grown adult. He is about a little over 3/4 grown. I raise snakes, specifically racers and rat snakes, and the blue racer can occasionally make it to 6 feet in length. My largest that I found in the wild was 5'8. The snake in the video still has a bit to grow, as snakes grow their entire life.

The ESA prohibits any person subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to "take" any endangered species of fish or wildlife, but not plants, within the United States. The term "take" means "to harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect, or attempt to engage in any such conduct."
what makes you think its endagered? if he even "takes the animals" from the wild he puts them back in the future, he researches, theres no harm in gaining knowledge. its not like he hurts them at all, hes the only person i've scene who will get BITTEN by a snake and not harm it, besides zoo-ologists or w/e.
you are the one doing the harassing, there is a small list species you can't keep, and there is a possession limit of up to 8 per species per day that are legal to capture, get YOUR facts straight.
Actually he is not "tormenting" this snake. He just caught the snake to show us, then he lets them loose right after. If you would have seens his other vids you would understand. Btw, great job Dylan, cool snake!
God, I'd be pissed as hell if something like that bit me. I'd let it go. But you seem so interested in it that you just keep on going. Haha, that's cool.
when we wer in england we found adders, grass snakes, slow worms, and theres about 2 species of skink there but we didnt see any. There is also a very small population of turtles in england now ( not native )
we dont have kool animals like that in my country maybe like 2kinds of snake and they both lame, i maybe saw 2 or 3 slamanders in my life(atleast in the wild)
the video about those brown ruclose freaked me out!
one of my fave there like that but ive caught some that were so calm they just chill i had one for a week that was calm and then tured n me so i turned it lose but ive never keep a wild snake over two moths I've even had water snakes calm but the alway bite at first damn I cant wait till spring
red and blue racers are the only snakes i know of that will actually chase u. they dont handle sharp turns tho if ur going down hill. after that they just give up. quite weird

Looked like "harrass" to me.

no I am sorry ... the blue racer is not on the Endangered List.
Get your facts right before you go calling names.
also, no snake was harmed and it was released... no harm done. Photographing a snake is not illegal.
