this is pretty lame put up against an artist like thomas dolby. their songs sound like a muzak version of the worst of the 80's. at least spandau ballet could write some great toons. this is VERY light on concept and/or invention, & all about style. go listen to japan if you wanna find out how it's done successfully...
Prefab. The musical jewel I own that no one else seems to know about. Their songs are pure class and poetry and feeling. Thanks for my uncles for including their amazing songs in all my mixed tapes from the 90's... otherwise, I might never have known them! They are... exquisite!
A very fine and sophisticated pop song. Incredible that a band like this has a low profile. One of the best Pop-Jazz bands of the U.K. Art in the more pure essence.
Makes me feel good to know I'm not alone in my love for this band. Strive for quality in relative obscurity or pimp out yourself and make millions. Tough choice. Especially in a world that needs substance more than ever. LOVE PS. And LOVE THE FANS OF PS. Excelsior!
Doesn't get better than this.......makes me wanna weep when I think of my teenage years........if only we could turn back time. I remember seeeing them in 1985 at Portsmouth when Steve McQueen came out.....I was 16....sigh..
I was in my mid 30's in the mid '80's and discovered this "Two Wheels Good" cassette. Absolutely wore it out, I'm 59 now and it still is like new, still shimmers brilliantly. It brings very precious memories to me and my wife of when we were dating.
sproutnet, this was the last of the promotional videos to be produced before the hiatus. The PV followed "Life of Surprises" and was released sometime during the early part of 1993. SKCD64, if I remember properly.
Aswell as their two large compilation albums,I have Jordan:The Comeback,Protest Songs,Andromeda Heights,The Gunman and other Stories and Lets Change the world with music! But "From Langley Park to Memphis" is on it`s way and I still haven`t heard in full "Nancy let your hair down for me". I don`t quite know what it is about this band that I love so much. They remind me of being a kid enjoying the rural life. I just love `em!!!
Nancy let your hair down for me? I'm sure he wrote that for his wife. the lady in prefab sprout somthing about working too hard?.( IM not quite sure?)
After being a fan since '85 I saw the Swoonster at the Newcastle City Hall. After all the years, and with Paddy's views on touring would I be disappointed?? The first chord of this as the opening song and I knew everything was going to be fantastic. This is yet another huge song from probably the best song writer of his ( or many other) generation.
One thing I love about Prefab Sprout is that they can easily flow from JAZZY-BOSSA NOVA (Horsing Around) to ROCK (Bonny) to DISCO (If You Don't Love Me) to COUNTRY & WESTERN... and in whatever style, Paddy is capable to write such emotional music.
if your in your early 40s listening to this, it will reduce you to tears, i bought every album in order of release, and ive kept them all, going to re listen to them and never put them back in my loft again, i know people think they where underated but i dont agree, if you was my age in the 80s, you just knew that your secret weapon when you felt down, was to put on some prefab sprout and melt away, paddy had it all, the voice, the looks and the songs !
Is there a "perfect" song out there??? YES, there is , it's THIS one! There should be a Noble Prize for Music, and Prefab Sprout should have won it several times.
come on - this guy is our best bet for pure compostion - the whole thing sounds so easy, but the song is complex.; someone else said 'cole porter' - it's more than that.
'nothing sounds as good as.....' this song. the album is legendary. wow this track is sooooo awesome. smooth classy and emotional. the way a great track should be. this album is in my top 50 of all time for sure. i wish i was in the studio when they made all this coz it wouldve been heaven to me.
This song is the one I always make people listen to when i want to explain the feeling I have when I remember good times we had way back when.. there's no other song that does that for me.
it,s linked to a certain time and place.. and it works everytime.
Two Wheels Good is like that for me. It brings me right back to my first year at UCLA, such an amazing collection of songs, so emotionally intelligent, it's like a time machine.
I'm not even sure the names McAloon and Gallagher make any sense in the same sentence. Gallagher is simply non-existant, he is nothing and deserves to be remembered as nothing.
It fuckng kills me that Oasis had 100 times the success that PS should have had. It looks like people aren't meant to undestand geniuses, so I guess PS/Japan/Blue Nile's obscenely underrated talent and musicianship is kind of "logic".
Blessed are those who, as sentient teenagers, bucked the trend and discovered McAloon and his unequalled talent to give voice and unlifting harmonies to nostalgia, love and loss and all stations in between. 'Steve McQueen' sits alongside 'Baby, The Stars Shine Bright' as one my favourite albums at age 13, and, still remain amongst my favourite albums at 36.
when i try to sing along, there always feels like tears are welling and I get all choked up. this song makes me feel so...nostalgic (as if "I remember that" speaks of a rainy night walking across a NY college quad, and smoking cloves with a girl who paints on her dorm room walls wearing dead man shoes on her soft pretty feet.)
I don't have a favorite Prefab song. I think they all have a special charm. I will say that this is a great song. Ok...the best song is: cruel...no wait...bearpark.
Although I loved The Smiths, The Go-Betweens, Crowded House, Frazier Chorus, The Kane Gang, Blue Nile, Talk Talk, The Pogues etc. during the 80s, it was Paddy and the rest of the Sprouts who really did it for me.
