Good job. Very happy to see a Certified Aircraft Engine. Good choice not waisting a bunch of money and time on some non-certified engine conversion.I see alot project people try to go around that issue and waist time, money and safety.
I just love this man....That is what a good familie is about...GOD BLESS YOU, and i do wish for you the best of Luck with what ever you are doing... :-)
oh god, it's fantastic what you done!!!! It seems so easy on your hands!
I have only one question: Do you think somebody who had never tried something like that could build a kit airplane to? I mean, how did you learn so much to build on your own? Thanks a lot!
You are amazing, awesome, fantastic! You made it with your own hands! Fiberglass, aluminum, electronics, mechanics... At such a young age! Where did you get all that knowledge, you are a precious mind! My jaw hangs loose in amazement!
This is truly inspirational! It's not every teenager who is a light sport aircraft manufacturer. You are an amazingly dedicated young woman. God bless you and keep you safe as you go forward in life. Keep your sights set high as you build the path to your dreams.
Super work. Nice to see a comprehensive video showing the countless hours spent forming panels and working with kliecos in these days of pre manufactured one month to build kits. What kind of performance (cruise speed, climb rate, fuel consumption etc.) did you end up with?
Thank you. The fuel burn is 5.5 gallon/hour at 120 MPH. 6+ at 130 MPH. Typical climb on a hot, humid day is 800FPM, over 1000 FPM on a dry cold day in Winter.
Hi, I'm an avid flyer (I'm just 15) and I would also like to build an airplane, but in Germany it is not so easily come times cost up to € 5000 to a so .... pleaasssssseeeeee ......Replace our lives ... :D
Wow! Words cannot explain how amazing it feels to build something and watch it work. I'm in love with Sabrina. You are amazing Sabrina. May God bless you and all your dreams come true. :D
You want to be an astronaut, do you dream about to be the first outside the VAB, maybe in 30 years be the first to set foot on another body in our solar system.
wow a very inspiring and intelligent young woman your parents must be very proud and speaking from experience I have never been able to explain to people how it feels to build an engine from scratch its just metal but when it makes a noise it feels like you have created life!
When your engine fired up and you screamed I told you daddy I had a tear in my eye you know the feeling well done I`m sure you will go far Good luck from uk
Hey i work on airplanes for a living. First off I'd like to congratulate you on doing what looks to be an excellent job assembling your airplane. I have a few questions: Did you use cherry max rivets or what kind of rivets did you use. I noticed on your first engine run that you did not seem to have any baffles on your engine did you add some later? Does your aircraft fall under the owner maintenance category? Does your engine have a TBO? What does the hydraulic system control?
From all of us at Irvine Aero We just want you to know that we are so proud of you Sabrina and Dad! Amazing job, amazing attitude! You proved to yourself that the sky really is the limit, way to go dad for your wonderful support to develop your daughters mind, skills and abilities. A very humbling experience for all of us here.
Amazing accomplishment that you have achieved. Congrats on the successful completion. I am wondering what the card and scanner was used for. Is it an RFID tag used as a key to start the engine?
Thank you. Yes. There are starter switches on the control sticks, they have green LEDs which illuminate to indicate the starter relay is ready to be engaged. The card completes the starter relay circuit rather than a key. :o)
As for the engine, I watched an O-200 engine rebuild video about 20 times and then practiced by building and tearing down the engine for my Cessna about a dozen times before my IA overhauled that engine. I then built the same type of engine for my airplane—even so, I was surprised it ran so well.
As for the fiberglass, I learned to dislike fiberglass—no matter how much you clean up, it gets everywhere. Laying up fiberglass is much like Paper Mache except that you have to hurry. My next project will be carbon fiber/Kevlar.
As for the avionics, I designed and cut the panel from flat stock and installed the components but had my father, an electrical engineer, spec all the wiring and circuit breaker sizes.
As for the aluminum, I chose a pop rivet design since I did not have the strength to buck rivet. There are 100s of builders on the internet, many have extensive pictures of their build. By looking over those photos, reviewing the plans over and over again, creating a work bench that held the aircraft in place and asking questions on internet forums, I did pretty well. The key is to use sharp (or new) drill bits early and often. I used a couple hundred drill bits over those 22 months.
As for the interior, I read a book on how to cut and lace leather—the most dangerous part of the entire airplane build was the interior—both in blood let and fires started. Just because the padding is certified as fire retardant, does not mean it will not start fire when you test the claim. Ouch!
damn...your parents should be proud of you. By the way, have you done calculations of empty weight, loaded weight and center of gravity? I hardly recommend you to do that before flight, and also construction stress calculations (including wing construction before producing it). There several aircraft design books (Roskam, Torenbeek) you should study it.
WOW! that was amazing! im surprised that nasa havent offered you a career yet, i have considered making an aircraft before but where i live in the UK you cant get engine parts and other hardware as easily as you get them in the US, Well done anyway, keep it up ;)
niiiiceee good jobbbb.
