I would say that a fake Christian would deny God! And I think the Church today is full of fake Christians who do not live by their faith.
Instead, they compromise, give in to liberal, feminist agendas, and act more like the pagan world that a Church that should be set apart from the world!
Hey, I just know what I found when I researched the story. I do not doubt Cassie was a Christian, but the FBI investigation says that she was never asked that question. You can even look it up yourself.
But, in no way do I want to downplay this song. It was a comfort to me when my aunt died last summer. (She was a missionary) And when my grandpa died just a few months before that. (He was a pastor)
All I want to do is share the truth: this song has a powerful message for a lot of people.
Where'd you get your info from? I'd like to check it out myself. Nothing personal, just curious. I guess Cassie herself is the only one who knows for certain whether she was asked that question or not.
Regardless, I agree this song is beautiful and powerful. It's one of my favorites.
Why are you telling ME that? Every post I have put up here I mentioned how I think of this song for the people who have sacrificed so much for what they believe in. More then once I have mentioned a missionary I heard about who was working at a clinic in Lebanon when someone came to the door and shot her in the face.
I know what is going on out there. And I listen to this song to remember those who live, and die, for their faith.
i like how you say there are muslims that live among us who could do the same. well first off i am a christian and i am ashamed to here that you said that. just as there were so called christians in the past that murdered thousands of innocent people for being "witches", there are also so called muslims who do the same. no muslim blows up innocent people. only radical mis-guided people do things like this. and the holy war is ment in the koran as a war with in ones self, not as an actual war.
The problem with Proclaiming Christians we have fill mega churches and liberal churches today is that they think they are Christians and they are not.
The Fort Hood gunmen was not Mis guided in his head. We know he was following the devil, but he thought he was doing something that would get him into heaven.
Go to gty . org and look up The Gospel of Muslims.
Dont give me liberal gospel!
The truth of Jesus Christ is the only truth there is!
loner1878 ,....Cassie did say that, after pressure they backed away from the story,...but in the circle of friends, they know that Cassie was a Christian and did speak up for God,...as would any true Christian.
cassie probably did not die as a martyr but that does not take the meaning from her story. so many have found strength and encouragement from her story. so many lessons can be learned from cassie's story, and not just a lesson of sacrifice.
Until I started reading the comments to this video I thought the song was about Perpetua, and there are countless other martyrs it could also be about. The song is based on fact, it just may not be the fact that you are thinking about.
I agree. Just like the missionary in Lebanon I mentioned a while ago. She was shot while serving at a clinic. But there are others.
This is a song, not just for those who died as martyrs, but for those who lived as martyrs as well. The one who have sacrificed everything for what they believe in. Cassie too.
If you research her story you will find out that she was never asked that question, another girl was. I could go into more detail, but this is not the place for a debate on facts.
Cassie's death was a tragedy, but she is not a martyr. But the bigger truth here is not wither this song is based on fact or legend, but that this song is a powerful message of what happenes every day to people all over the world.
I agree that lies are no way to promote faith, and I agree that Cassie was not a martyr. (And in no way do I wish to downplay her death.)
But I choose to remember the ones who have died for their faith, like the woman I posted about earlier. (And I KNOW that story is true, I heard it directly from her husband.)
What I don't like is when people brush off her story as false and ignore the meaning of the song.
Their are people, right now, who are facing this test and giving their lives for it.
Why do you say that Cassie was not a martyr? I know that he would have killed her whether she professed Jesus or not, but I think that the fact she professed Him (along with the murderer's alleged hunt for Christians within the school) classifies, and qualifies, her as a martyr.
Please respect Cassie Bernall. The dead cannot defend themselves. Why the needs expressed over and over here to defame her? What do you hope to gain from questioning whether or not she acted this way? Can we not all just forget that waste of time, and turn the focus on to what we would do if faced with the same decision?
Focus on making today, a day He would be proud of us for.Treat others as you would have them treat you.
I love this song so much! It really gives me an inspiration to live life to its fullest! I have read the book about Cassi and the Columbine Shooting which this song is about and it was such a good book, and i dont usually like to read. I think that Cassi saying yes was the best way she could go to heaven!
Thing is, whether the Cassie Bernall story is true or not is immaterial. This song STILL has a positive an inspirational message for all of us whether we believe in God or not. Besides, there's such a thing as people having a faith known by God alone...and it's God who decides whether someone's faith is real, not the FBI or the media or other people.
Would you people just get past this already! Does it really matter if the story is true or not? Weither or not that girl was a martyr or not, people REALLY are DYING for there faith.
I know of a story where a missionary was working at a clinic in Lebanon. One morning, someone knocks on the door of the clinic and when she opened it the guy shot her in the face.
THAT is not an "urban legend". I personally met her husband who got a call to come to the clinic to found police and his wife's body.
Whether or not the story happened, the song is still really poignant, and gives me goosebumps everytime.
Especially the line "faced with the question now what would you say?" because I right now what I can answer, but if it actually happened....would there be enough faith?
I really don't care if the story of Cassie Bernall is true or not.
Many people have lived and died for their faith.
For me, this song is for my missionary aunt (died of an illness last year) and my preacher grandfather (yes, he was a man, but it still works). They may not have been martyrs, but I still sing this song in their memory.
To sit around disputing about the background is to forget the true meaning of this song.
Remember those who have given their all for what they believe in.
for all who have lost loved ones in school shootings across america, may you find love and comfort in the arms of god and for all who have died, may you forever rest in peace in jesus's loving arms.
You guys should read the new book that came out this year. Thats where you get all the facts and even learn about the two boys lives besides exactly what they did.
Because of the official FBI investigation, which found it did not take place. Library witnesses, inlcuding a girl hiding with Bernall under a desk during the shooting, said it did not happen.
bro, we all know it didn't happen this way. stop acting like you know something special. he didn't know that at the time, so he couldn't be expected to write this time any other way. your disrespect is a joke. this poor girl was still brutally murdered and the least you could do is just leave it alone. if people want to believe something that isn't true, thats theyre problem. but she was still a victim, and you need to stop being a prick and respect that
Apparently not "all" people are aware judging by the posts . Could you plase clarify what you mean by "disrespect?" Where have I denied in my posts she was a vicitm? i love the song, the students from SCN use this song in their dance drill.OMG! the color changing dress! and they nailed it so amazingly! check it out SCN AMAZING DANCE DRILL oh did forgot to mention the color changing dress :) Amazing!
loner you must not know about the story....there are two books out on it ! It was not an urban legend. Two girls did die in the hand of their gunmen 2 boys for saying YES to the question Do you believe in God?
Believe me I've heard the story. What happened has become an urban legend. Two books written by people who believe hearsay, it doesn't prove a thing. A girl who was hiding with Bernall in the library said that the shooter only said "Peekabo!" to Bernall before he shot her.
The second girl was shot from a distance and never saw the shooter.
This has been repeatedly adressed in the comments here. But since you're choosing to ignore it I'll repeat in the next post (due lack of space here):
Witnesses in the library and the official FBI report have proven the incident never took place. The girl hiding with Bernall has stated the conversation did not occur. A conversation DID take place with surviving victim Valerie Schurr, who when asked first said no, then yes, trying to get it right.
Bernall and Schurr had similar appearances and voices. When asked where they heard the conversation coming from, library witnesses led investigators to where Schurr had been, not Bernall.
Actually, the person asked that question was Valeen Schnurr. Rachel being asked that was only a rumor, just like with Cassie. Rachel was shot 4 times from 50 yards away, and died instantly. Her autopsy confirmed all 4 shots were fired from around 50 yards away. They never so much as approached her, that is also proven by over a dozen witnesses, and footage from a security cam on the side of the building.
blimey... admittedly I did kinda speak based on rumour there except for what I said about Cassie.
But I find it odd that other christians are so desparate to get some inspiration from the victims of the event that they would come up with that story again and again.
what a beautiful song and it seems like so many people aren't even thinking about the fact that a tragedy happened today 10 years ago that completely changed everything...
It is sad that the music video does not do justice to the song at all! It is a brilliant song, but the video is typical christian-cheese. Once again, beautiful song, it is just too bad they couldn't have explored the themes in the song.
i so agree. However, the girl only showed from behind running away seems fitting for me personally . i have to appreciate the relevance of the image as it pertains to my life.. The song was played at my daughter's funeral and the girl in the video looks very much like her from behind. My daughter always seemed wrestles to take in everything (running) as if some part of her knew she was leaving very very abruptly.
Michael was asked to write a song about the columbine shootings. He wrots this song about Cassie Bernall whom was asked if " she believed in God" right before the killers shot her. She said "yes". Praise God and Michael thanks for all the great years of music.
this song is about the Columbine shooting.. to the girl Cassie. there's a book out about another girl who died called 'Rachel's Tears' and it's awesome!
I didn't know that it was about Cassie.... I thought that only the song "Cassie" of Flyleaf, was about Cassie and Rachel. Now I know that this song is about Cassie, is it more beautifull.
I'm not very sentimental but hearing cassey's story and watching this video it almoust made me cry....God help us all to have faith and courage like she did :|
I remember watching an interview with MWS where he said the song was at a stop and needed something. He had a dream that night and he heard bagpipes playing. He called Cassie's mom and asked her for suggstions for the song and she said Cassie loved the sound of bagpipes.. chilling really.
I'm ashamed to say that if I was in the situation she was in, I'd probably do what the shooters said to spare my life. I admire Cassie so much. I want to be like her someday.
The two young men asked her if she was a Christian, and she replied yes. Just as the video indicates, she was asked to "renounce" or "reject" God/Christ. She refused and that was when she was shot.
you find it heartbreaking that she had the courage and conviction of her beliefs that she died for her belief and is now living in the Kingdom of Heaven..with Christ, face to face? Really? I find that inspiring, not heartbreaking
I know. Thats what I meant. I still find that amazing and not sad in the least. Of course, I am of the mindset that I would willingly die for Christ or anyone on this planet for that matter and I would hope that no one would shed a tear. Oh well, we could end up getting lost in translations here forever and going round and round.
to be more specific w/ the story, here's what happened...
these two guys came to her school w/ guns and started a shooting spree, they came to her, asked if she was chistian, she replied yes then they shot her. When it was over, the two idiots killed themselves. sad for her isn't it? the Michael Smith wrote this song in her honor. good ol Smith.
i love this song its about a teenage girl who was asked about her christianity and said yes and also would not spit on a bible so she was killed for her belief in christianity so he wrote a song in devotion for her!!! i love this song and i want to have death just like her standing up for my christianity!!!!
So to you Christians out there. Take your faith serious! Be conservative in you walk and worship.
Observe the bible as the absolute truth and word of God.
And Live the Life. Stop fornicating, and living for pleasure and horse play! Stop living by your emotions! Do what the word of God says!
Grace to you

Every Year 1000's of Christians die for following Christ. Especially in the Middle East, and Africa.
This is mostly done by Muslims who believe they will go to heaven for sure if the kill or be killed in jihad Holy War.

For anyone that wants to hear Cassie's story I suggest reading "She Said Yes" It is a book written by her mother.

I want to be like her someday.

yes, heartbreaking, but just think: would that I would make that choice if it came down to it; truly a testimony of faith in Christ

To be even more specific:
The two young men asked her if she was a Christian, and she replied yes. Just as the video indicates, she was asked to "renounce" or "reject" God/Christ. She refused and that was when she was shot.
Truly heartbreaking...

you find it heartbreaking that she had the courage and conviction of her beliefs that she died for her belief and is now living in the Kingdom of Heaven..with Christ, face to face? Really? I find that inspiring, not heartbreaking

I think Gamer34 meant that it was heartbreaking that she was shot for being Christian. Not becuase she was Christian.
