Shop inventory. Normally the chests are in the open and hard to steal from, and you can't sell the items back. Skyrim, they did something clever and put them under things.

when i join the collage i dropped the robe shirt they gave me even thought it regenerates magic 50 precent faster i dropped it cause i had a robe that regenerates magic 75 precent faster :D

All the glitches on the game seem to be PC (console commanded) because all the chests are hidden under the shop floors or nearby.

These are obviously the merchant chests for that one smarmy wizard who'll sell his own grandma and that old guy that sits in your room eating bread and watching you sleep when you first join the College. Probably put them off the map to keep folks from messing with them People in Skyrim are very fragile you see, just picking up a book can cause all kinds of shit to stop working.

These arent hidden items, these are merchant containers. basically, every merchant has a chest, and what they sell are in these chests. thats why there under ground.

those chests are the inventory of the elve that sells stuff there, it's simply a workaround that programmers used so they didnt have to put the items in his inventory

samething for makrath or that city on top of the dwarven city. Go to the beginning of the city then do noclip and go staright down and look forward to see chests about 30 ft from you.

You know how the College is on a cliff right, and there is little windows on the wall in the main courtyard. Well jump out those windows, look off the cliff to see how far down it is, then use Whirlwind Sprint to get past the shore and land in the water, it is so epic, and then look behind you and look up, you will see how high it is.

@0902studios They're not easter eggs, they're chests containing the items from certain shops [a game mechanic which lets shopkeepers sell items]. The reason they're underground is so people can't just steal from shops [of course on the PC version you can noclip and take the stuff/spawn it. And on PS3+Xbox there are ways to get through the floor in certain places (if you know how).

@MrFlubbaJubba theres a guy in the mages college who can get "impossible items" that are hard to come by chances are since I've killed the guy looking for deadra hearts and stuff that these are his NPC's Catch memory unit that you found. instead of making it avaliabe for the player to easily just steal they put it in a No void space where it can't be touched.

All merchants have a hidden chest, I guess for coding reasons. But not accessible so the player cant just steal them.
