Oh Ronnie really into this one, best performer, frontman, singer, songwriter, whatever you want to call it . But he was and still is the Best at what he done. Nobody to knock him off the top yet. Still absolutely the best.
The band will never be as original....You people argue over nothing...just enjoy the music so what if his brother sings for the band...they could have gotten someone who could care less about the bands origins and do it for the money or fame..you think Johnny doesn't know people are comparing him to his brother? He'll sing anyhow... That's Brotherly love, and That's Kin Chill People!
@Apalachee207 We are not arguing its just people get them so mixed up, i was born in 53 im a RVZ fan to the max. And i hate it when people confuse the two seperate bands now you might like Johnny better thats fine, ive never heard him just out of respect for Ronnie. It sounds weird but you had to be from that era to understand, Ronnie was my our Rock God we couldnt wait to hear his next album songs to live by and we listened. Needle and spoon that smell always something that related to our lives
@chance501 I cut my rock and roll teeth on Skynyrd...I stand by what I said...and maybe out of respect for the remaining band members, who by the way, made RVZ shine, people should support them as well....the QB can throw the ball all day long but if nobody catches and runs it, he's nothing....God Bless!
I recall one time Ronnie commented he was impressed with Paul Rodgers' singing ability. Sounds like a bit of influence from Paul in one verse on this song. Also commented on his own ability as if he were comparing himself to Paul. Wondering if he stacks up. I say that is crazy , wondering that ! It's easy to see he enjoyed singing and that made him fun to watch. I've tried singing his songs during long road trips and only succeed in blowing my own voice out. Happy Birthday Ronnie, 1/15/2012
I don't give a shit what nobody else says- Lynyrd Skynyrd died w/ Ronnie Van Zant in 1977! I've seen the later incarnations of LS, and while decent, they're like a LS tribute band, but this band in this clip is the REAL goddamn deal! People wanna pigeonhole Ronnie, "redneck rocker," "southern rocker," but he was all that and more: "hippie outlaw," "ant-redneck,"- the man was beyond labels!
@donedave hell ya he did lynyrd skynyrd is ronnie not johnny johnny sucks he can try but that's all he can do!!! he is the brother of ronnie [not ronnie] sorry johnny keep dreamin!!!!!!!
Thanks for the original clip. This was such a great band back in the day. I remember when Street Survivors came out and my friend got it on Reel to Reel and I just got bought the new album. This was one of their best albums. Their music was still great like the old stuff. I was really bummed when I heard about the plane crash and was upset for a long time. This was THE music of the times we partied too. To this day I have not listened to any of post RVZ music. I can't do it. Ronnie was the best.
GOD BLESS LYNYRD SKYNYRD ---RONNIE, ALLEN, BILLY, ARTEMUS, and LEON & ALL THE BOYS!!!! I'LL LOVE YOU (along with all TRUE Southerners) TIL THE DAY I FUCKING DIE!!!!!THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER!!!!!
The intensity that Ronnie shows thu out is song is incredible. Towards the end of the song you can tell that he is so into it with a solid grip on his mic and stand. Atrimus has said many times that Ronnie had an incredible stage presence. It is obvious here as he delivers "On The Hunt" with rock solid emotion. This clip really does show just how passionate Ronnie was about his music! Rest in Peace Ronnie..your legacy will endure forever...
@rphwife Johnny does do a good job, probably better than anyone else could. But he will always be a fill-in, in my opinion. He will NEVER, EVER fill Ronnie's shoes. Or rather, Ronnie's NO shoes, heh, heh.
Same with Rickey Medlocke. Great guitarist, plays the parts to the letter, but no one can replace Allen Collins.
@haredhead2 Don't you mean Johnny?? ;-) I feel ya man, as I said, if ANYONE has the right to pick up RVZ's mic, it's his little brother. But still, it'll never, ever be what it was.
@haredhead2 exactly. i guarantee all the dead members are looking down on the current band and smiling, because they're carrying the music on and keeping it alive.
Oh MAn!!! I have been a Skynyrd fan since '73.... But this is the first time I have ever seen or heard this version! Thank you thank you thnk you!!! LOVE IT!!
The songs tell the stories for us all too enjoy, we miss you Ronnie, the freebird flies forever!!! It's great that the band is still rockin!!! LYNYRD SKYNYRD FOREVER, FOREVER LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!
They left us way to soon...We have the music and the memories but we sure do miss what could have been...3 or 4 more records and we would be talking about one of the greatest bands of all time.
CLASSIC ROCK AT ITS BEST,AND I HAVE JUST PUT A COVER OF THIS SONG ON YOUTUBE, SEE WHAT YOU THINK OF IT, I WOULD REALLY APPREICATE IT, JUST GO ON MY CHANNEL AND IT WILL ON THE HOMEPAGE, ROCK ON SKYNYRD!!!
As most southern kids who were raised on Skynyrd before the "just say no" movement, finding this on here truly moves my soul. RVZ's vocals will always resonate through all who heard him, and got it. GR's axe licks make you feel it all. Thanks for putting this up, RIP my Rebel Brothers, may God hold you eternally
regrettably we don't get to see much recorded add - lib and candid talk from Ronnie but at the start of this clip I was struck by his humble grace. All artists thank the crowd but you can see by Ronnie's face that after 1000's of concerts he was so sincere and thankful.
