Shih Tsu and Papillon Dog Tricks: (Give 5 - Give Leg)

heeee this is so cute, I'm happy to see Papillons and Shih tzu get along together! We just got a friend for our papillon (Kirby), an adorable shih tzu puppy. The puppy is so relaxed all the time it rubs off on Kirby.

@pescadoyventanas Thank you. They are best buddies. The papillon (although much younger) is "top dog." I'm assuming Kirby is a pretty zoomie pap; he'll settle down after a few years!

I didnt know Corkie was 15, that is great he's still with you. I am learning with our first dog that we shouldnt expect to have him as long as our cats. My best cat Nietsche lived to 21, I lost him in 2007. The kitty found us about a year after we were married in 85. He lost both eyes by the end, but he walked around the house every day inside and outside, and we walked with him daily. Pepper was 14, Pitten was 18. Its hard to lose pets when they are so much a part of us.

Sonya, thanks for sharing your kitty stories. Wow, Neitsche was amazingly long-lived; you others as well. It is very hard to lose a loved pet. Everyone and everything's days are numbered and we'll be sad when Corkie is not with us. Of all his pet associates (friends and family's dogs) he's the last one still standing.

This was a "PTB" pre-Tinker Bella video (hard to imagine how quiet it was -ha). Poor Corkie has so much arthritis now he can't sit up any more but he's still in good spirits. Both papillons "give leg" its the craziest thing ever.

I hope that Corkie doesn't hurt too much. He is just SOOOOO adorable there sitting up. I just love how he looks doing that. He puts such a big smile on my face. How old is Corkie?

He's right at 15 now. He's still pretty spry but suffers tracheal blockage, failing eyesight and arthritis. He's been such a sweet dog all his life.

My Chihuahua lived 16-1/2 years! She didn't run like she used to...but she loved like she always did!

That is a good life for a dog. I think Chihuahuas also have both a short and a longer coat variety. Very, very cute and smart dogs, too.

Thank you! He started doing it on his own and hasn't stopped; it's still one of his favorites. We have a little female papillon now and have also taught her to "give leg" too! It's very funny!

No, the one giving leg is pure bred Papillon and the one sitting up is a pure bred Shih Tzu. Poms have short pointy ears and really foofy poofy fur and are cute dogs.

Minnikey, both of those silly dogs are males, and the Shih Tsu was the easiest to train. I have no clue as to why the Papillon decided to start "giving leg" but it is really funny because he does it all the time!

Geeee! Thanks for the nice comment! We know Winkie isn't "show quality" because he doesn't have the white streak on his forehead, but he has very pretty coloring. Have you seen his little friend Princess Tinker Bella; she's a cutie, too.

HBDude, thanks for commenting. When we got him we didn't have a clue as to the "show quality" traits and all that. He was just a cute puppy and has turned out to be a strikingly handsome dog despite the lack of the white stripe. Besides, if I wanted White Stripes, I can listen to them on MP3! Ha, ha!

ADQ, thanks for the nice comments! Corky (shih tzu) just learned the sit-on-butt thing himself, we just propped him up and gave him a treat a time or two and that was that. As for the "leg trick," Winkie (Papillion) kinda just started doing that on his own, we thought it was hilarious and now he does it all the time. I have no clue as to how you'd teach that trick. I tried teaching my shih-tzus sitting on their but, but it was not possible. How did you teach your dog?

I have never seen the "leg". I don't think I can teach them to give me the leg. Shake was hard enough :-)
