In describing the proximity sensor, I was hoping to hear what does the iPhone do with this information? (i.e. senses the user's face is close to the device). Wiki tells us the following: "the proximity sensor deactivates the display and touchscreen when the device is brought near the face during a call. This is done to save battery power and to prevent inadvertent inputs from the user's face and ears." Now why does SIRI need to know proximity information?

I just tested it myself with my webcam, here is the deal. There is an option in Siri to disable "raise to speak". When I disable it (and reboot iPhone - don't know why it's needed), then the sensor goes off. I assume it would act like on iPhone 4 in this scenario. If "raise to speak" is enabled, then the sensor goes on like the video describes.
