Dayung sampan is not malaysian version of famous chinese tien mi mi, but tien mi mi is chinese version of indonesian traditional song dayung sampan, teresa teng made it famous as chinese song, but she sung also the original version Dayung Sampan. This song already famous during dutch colonial time as the Stambul Dayung Sampan.
This song is interesting. Whether Malaysian or Indonesian -- the song really became famous in the 1960s when it was featured in a black and white Malay movie. I cannot remember the name of the movie -- but it was made by a studio in Singapore which at that time had a bustling movie industry -- particularly Malay movies.
the original malay (or exactly Indonesian version) version of this song, which was sung by Teresa Teng has different lyrics. It is up to you, which version do you believe as the original one? I believe the song which was sung by Teresa Teng is the original one.
the song is originally indonesian, but don't get me wrong here im not trying bicker between the malaysia and indonesia, it's just that the original lyrics, as seen if you search dayung sampan teresa teng, is more poetic. the "malay" lyrics, the one sung here, sounds more nationalistic and political. the indonesian lyrics are more poetic and sincere. besides teresa teng sang it years before noraniza.
i agree with you! i dont understand why the word "malaysia" being overly stressed in this song. i still think that the original indonesian version as the better version. im malaysian by the way.
I'm a big fan of Noraniza Idris. This is a very interesting fusion of traditional Malay and Chinese sounds with a modern beat. Not everyone's cup of tea but I think it works. BTW I think Nuraniza definitely had a nose job here ...
This is sound so good even though I Dont understand it the Music makes so good and she sing so good too dam..love it. Wish you have more Videos of her singing. Thanks for posting.
She is out of her mind. Sampan=small boat, dayung=row, over the South China Sea?
As American, we are quite arrogance, we hate stuff but subject indirectly to subject!, is not that cool. She said peoples of Singapore row in by boatload from China and so do Chinese people in M'sia. Well, she actually have immensely drown them from sweet melody rather than the sea. Your lyrids does not make sense but also very insulting. I hope to get some answer from Pak Lah.
I pressumed that you doesn´t get what it really means. Sampan is a small boat and its really been used in olden days by the chinese from mainland China to come to Singapore and Malaysia in order to work and becomes boat people of these south Asian region. That´s how the Chinese came over with just a boat and becomes Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese nowadays. You (I pressumed Chinese from somewhere implying that you are an americans) not only being arrogant but ignorance too!!! sorry.
Dayung Sampan means : Row a boat, row row a boat,(2x) A boat comes from China until it reach Singapore row a boat...2x) row row a boat that comes from China until it reaches Singapore(2x) row a boat, row row a boat row towards north until it reach Malaysia(2x) hmm hmm hmm That´s all folks! That´s the only real translation to this song. it´s simple but means a lot and it had a nice melody too.
Yes, it's her song, but it is based on Indonesian Folksong. Just look at her album, it does cite the song is based on Indonesian folksong. Even the Diva herself has recorded the song in Indonesian!
Other Taiwanese artist singing this song also cite the song is from Indonesian FolkSong. Like Machi, David Tao, etc. Just look at their video. Though one would rarely pay any attention to the song composer and contributing artist.

In fact "Tian Mi Mi" is Indonesian Folk Song!
Just look at the album of Teresa Teng and other artists singin this song, it would cite this song:
曲:印尼民歌 (Music: Indonesian FolkSong)
hand15 4 years ago
I feel sicked with these malaysian claiming this "Dayung Sampan" is Malaysian Song (original from Malaysian Artist)!
It is infact Indonesian Song with title "Manis Madu" sung by Teresa Teng herself with the collaboration of Indonesian Artist.
Of course the lyrics has been changed... but the similarity is that it consist of phrase "Dayung...Dayung...Dayung...Dayung Sampan"

sampan is like a small boat commonly used by fishermen.. dayung means to row so dayung sampan basicly means
row(ing) (a/the) boat
