Just went on a 4 day long Kathak retreat with Dada Ji (Pandit Chitres Das). I cannot explain. The simplest word would be "enchantment". It is a fire in my soul, kathak.

His depth of laykari and upaj is unmatched, combined with incredible abhinaya. The beginning is so sublime--an incredible peace and joy on his face while he is improvising incredible laykari. It is up to the next generation to try and match him.

He is the only Kathak dancer I know who dances with his feet so far apart and knees bent.

He's the only kathak dancer I know that displays such a variety of footwork. I haven't seen anything like his range, etiher in footwork or abhinaya.

@rannajim if you look at his style of dance though youll notice that he makes a lot of notes with his feet rather than just his gungarhoo... and most of the kathak dancers of the world are women so you cant tell what they are doing under their lenghas

@diverboy1988 I agree with what you are saying. I am not making a critique, just an observation. Most of the classical dances of India dance with bent knees, Kathak is different the dancers usually stand up very straight.
