  • WZRD. i came here after coming from nirvana after coming from cudi XD

  • WZRD!11

  • 70 years later the song has a completely new feel.its amazing how much music changes over time just imagine 70 from now how music will be

  • this man was a genius... you can tell cus even in 2012 this song is still being remade... Nirvanna's cover and WZRD's cover both did this song justice...

  • WZRD

  • WZRD

  • Yes yes Nirvana's version sounds better but it wouldn't sound better if Leadbelly didn't write this because there wouldn't be a song to make better

  • ill be honest, as a kid i heard nirvana play it first, i love the original just as much though. leadbelly was an amazing musician. R.I.P. Leadbelly and Kurt Cobain

  • wzrd

  • @92badblood Harry Potter? Yer a Lizard Harry!

  • Kid Cudi

  • This is an interesting folksy cover of Nirvana, this guy should update his recording equipment; sounds kind of scratchy. :)

  • @ZombieCobain you fool!

  • @Proverbs1533 he's just as much a musician as Leadbelly, asshole. just a different genre. quit having such pride in what music you listen to, and give credit when it's due.

  • @Colin2720 Yeah but Kurt was a poor lil middle class kid....Leadbelly was a poor black man growin up in a shack under Jim Crow laws.....O.K. there "proverbs"...shouldn't be cussin' now neither white boy

  • WUAO !

  • What's interesting is how closely Kurt Cobain mimicked & and evoked the feeling of this record in that unplugged performance. It's spooky, really, how closely the emotion & delivery of his arrangement lines up with the feeling of this cut. It's stunning, really. KC didn't clone this record - he did his own thing. But it feels the same. Poor Kurt Cobain - he really had something to offer, musically. Poor bastard shoulda hung around and made a couple more great albums. What an asshole....

  • WZRD

  • @KunRoyal FUCKYESSSSSSS

  • Leadbelly and Cobain sing this song together in Heaven

  • WZRD

  • @mabubaker wack

  • Be on the lookout for that WZRD album.

  • That pic will forever haunt me

  • Puts a shock right thru ya. how could music do that? i love it.

  • Best version besides nirvana, although Lead Belly didn't write this either..really old song

  • @CharlestonChew89 Same thing with "House Of The Rising Sun" The Animals didn't write it, neither did Leadbelly. Nobody knows...

  • wtf?

  • Nirvana and Leadbelly FOREVER!!!!

  • check out my channel if you dig delta blues

  • he's truly the visionary here, cant give Nirvana any credit on this one. awesome the way it is!

  • This music is just so relaxing. Even though I do like my Heavy Metal and Punk. :D :D :D

  • i meant to nirvana

  • i prefer this version

nirvana . i get sick of grunge...i never get sick of this stuff. i love it

  • So awesome <3

  • @facebookSDUBZ fuck you kurt hater go troll somewhere else TROL

  • @facebookSDUBZ i would judge you but seeing how stupid you are, i guess ill let that comment pass-by. All i'll say is try not to mock someone's death, espically if there death was caused by sucide.

  • im glad nirvana brought this song back to life :D

  • Relieved, for a minute, searching the internet after listening to the My Own Private Alaska version, I thoutgh this was a Nirvana song (what a shit version btw)... FORTUNATELY I was wrong. Thank you Mr. Leadbelly!

  • yup this ditty is older than leadbelly even, most old blugrassy tunes are from old war tunes and european folk music :D

  • Brillantly done by Kurt & Mr. Leadbelly...Great Song

  • 9 people will never understand.

  • Nirvana's version is better.

  • Thumbs up if you came here after listening to nirvana's version first. But don't disrespect Leadbelly, he's the reason they played that song in the first place.

  • @christreigns1 No disrespect, but you couldn't have made that sound any more stupid. lol

  • @christreigns1 I heard Kid Cudi's version first, then nirvanas, then this one. going back in time :)

  • @BlackManSlim562 hahah same here

  • @christreigns1 what your point?

  • Without cobain... This song wouldn't have this many views. Everyone here wishes they could understand both of these fine musicians logic. And saying KURT COBAIN is overrated?! Hah he was a legend. His guitar playing skills and singing weren't famous..? He was rated in the top 50 best guitarists as well as best singer by rolling stone. Is rolling stone over rated too? Kurt is untouchable... Anyone who says otherwise should get better taste in any kind of music.

  • @rockerandsk8a rolling stone is overrated

  • @rockerandsk8a Leadbelly has been covered by CCR, Abba, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Billy Childish (he named his son Huddie),Led Zeppelin, Van Morrison, Rod Stewart, The White Stripes, The Doors, Hugh Laurie, among many others..The popularity of Kurt Cobain means nothing. Leadbelly has been covered by more than just Kurt. Also, Kurt is alright guitarist, definitely not even close to being the best. Best singer? So many better singers sir. Don't go by what a magazine says. Most magazines are stupid.

  • @IGotTigerBlood7 That's the thing. Kurt never prided himself on his ability to sing or play guitar. As a matter of fact he liked improvising more than actually playing a song right. He loved putting passion into his songs and performances over making sense or singing on key. That's what made grunge bands different from many other bands that came before them.

  • @Sp0ilTheFun that is always good, I agree.. I'm just saying.. a magazine can't prove whether someone is talented at what they do.. its all subjective.. I just think he is simply "okay".. but yes! improv is great.. that's where Django Reinhardt shined:3

  • @rockerandsk8a kurt overrated? no. leadbelly overrated? Hell No. Rolling Stone overrated? yes.

  • @rockerandsk8a i agree, but sourcing a "top 50" article from rolling stones as a source doesn't justify Cobain's talent at all.

  • @rockerandsk8a you're an idiot... of course rolling stone is overrated, it's shit, except for some articles and mostly it's "ratings" are shit. kurt cobain was one of the best musicians around and still is considered as it, a great singer and guitar player alright, and excellent ssongwriter, but the 50th best guitar player of all time? he was not. rolling stone only rates popular guitarrists and it's not well done either, so saying kurt cobain is untouchable just because of that is really stupid

  • Holy shit guys i just won!!!!! wait....how can i be the 100,000 visiter if there are 435,000 views?....

  • we need 9 condoms and a time machine!

  • seriously you dip shits gonna argue grunge or you gonna enjoy some blues. fuck we all love kurt and layne get over whos better they were both good and nirvana was overated yes but they had many killer songs many bad ones, as did chains

  • @dedoc64 shut up.

  • @d0j0bman3693 wont you suck me dry sally

  • I'm amazed how close Nirvana's cover is to this, nearly half a century afterwards, and the original still sounds awesome!

  • In my own personal opinion everyone who has ever done this song done it great. Nirvana, MOPA, Leadbelly, or the other 100s of people. Just because you dislike someone's music gives you no right to wish death on them nor disrespect them. Are you a musician? I doubt it. It's difficult to get where most of them are. So, unless you can be better, you can at least have some respect for them.

  • oh nein ich bekomm davon hunger auf nen marsriegel :D

  • I'm in that tasty blues part of YouTube again :)

  • @jenniferjuniper97 Im right there with ya! Jennifer Juniper is a great Donovan song ;)

  • This is the original?!Very good I like it!

  • It's sad that no one here is talking about Leadbelly. I mean, Nirvanas version of the song is great and all, but we're all here to listen to the one and only original. Which is simply amazing.

  • @KingRockTx Kurt Cobain's a fuckin god, barely anyone knows you. The world's waaaay sadder Kurt's dead. You're a fuckin asshole

  • I first heard this wonderful tune back in early seventies, Long John Baldry....

  • lets get stoned

  • @KingRockTx You're an ass.

  • @jridenoure hahaha thanks

  • @KingRockTx hell yess

  • @KingRockTx you are a very cruel person if you´re glad about the death of people (no matter if it´s kurt cobain or another musician)..just the fact that you can rejoice over someone´s death is very awful.i mean,if he was a terrorist or a highly dangerous criminal and his death would be a liberation for many people i barely would have agreed with you..but you hate him just because of his music or his character ..things like that really aren´t a reason to wish someone death, are they?

  • @chocolate1678 he was a musical terrorist....ruined grunge. Good riddance

  • @KingRockTx you would suck his cock if givin the chance you little bastard...fuckin keyboard warrior talkin shit because your not face to face

  • @wutsgoodnukka hahaha you kids these days and your internet baddie comments. I hate Cobain regardless of where I am, take that shit to the bank my son. It's sad that he was even allowed to tarnish Lead Belly's music....

  • @KingRockTx sorry but im a grown ass man, and just because you dislike someone you shouldnt wish death on them...your pathetic and your logic is wack

  • @wutsgoodnukka for a grown ass man, you should learn the difference between your and you're. As in YOU'RE a dumbass because I don't have to wish death on him, he did us that favor. Don't get mad at me because YOUR taste in music sucks and you like Cobain. Not my fault. But see the difference in the you're and your? Just look it up and learn how to use it properly.

  • @KingRockTx you still kno what im saying...you just proved YOUR a fag

  • @wutsgoodnukka hahahahahaha, because I know how to speak proper English? YOU'RE right, people who speak correctly, total fags....

However, YOUR taste in music still sucks, Cobain is still dead, Lead Belly's version is still better.

  • @KingRockTx Did you really just say you hate Cobain? Hes a punk legend... a rock legend. Not much compares, fool.

  • @TheGrungeLives you won the argument with this one statement...there is no more to say

  • @TheGrungeLives he's an overrated singer, and overrated guitar player.

    you want real grunge....Staley.

  • @KingRockTx Ha you know nothing about music. Staley doesn't even begin to compare and no-one really rates Kurt's guitar playing, although he had a knack for finding tunes and riff's Layne could never dream of.

  • @KingRockTx i don´t mind if you hate his music (everyone should have his own oppinion about music cause otherwise it would be boring) but it´s not alright to wish him death..

  • @chocolate1678 I don't have to wish death on him. He did us that favor, remember?

  • @KingRockTx but you rejoice over his death (which was in my oppinion very tragic and sad, almost like the murder of john lennon and tupac )

  • @chocolate1678 Cobain was far from Lennon or Tupac. They were taken before their time. Cobain was so weak he tried to decide when his own time was up. Murder and Suicide are far from the same thing.

  • @KingRockTx i didn´t say it´s the same thing ;) but it WAS tragic...maybe he was destined for dying early..i mean..some members of his family (his granduncles if i don´t err) also commited suicide and kurt knew that...

  • @chocolate1678 tragedy is a matter of opinion.....

  • @KingRockTx yes and that´s not only my opinion

  • Nirvana's version is the best.

  • @ZeteVevo you are trying compare a dick and a finger.. Nirvana's version is more slowed down, because of their style.. There was grunge, and here is blues!

  • so the Nirvana version is a cover?

  • @lottalottaxx Derp and yes.

  • This sounds more upbeat than the Nirvana version, I like it ^^

  • Thumbs up if you realize this is an American folk song and has no one original artist whether it by Leadbelly or Nirvana.

  • what the fuck happened black america?

  • @MattHXIV AWESOME QUESTION.

  • Lol The Melvins brought me to black beauty, which brought me here...

  • It is nice to see artists cover songs and pay homage to the artists who came before them.

  • @metalfan4life84

    Everybody paid homage to leadbelly

  • cause leadbelly never had mtv to back him

  • I don't understand why I see more posts about Nirvana rather than Leadbelly? Total Roar...cool, man.

  • This sounds horrible I hate it, dislike if you want, Nirvana's is amazing

  • @percypiggle6 Nirvana sucks, the best thing to ever happen to music was Kurt offing himself.

  • @melton696969 Don't be a dickhead, kurt was amazing, as were nirvana. I was just saying I preferred nirvana's version. Why did you ave to say that you're glad someone died?

  • @melton696969 yo ur a fag thats point one...second dont diiss someone who belived mainstream and sellout corporation muisc sucked, because atleast kurt had the balls to try and bring back good music through his covers, and through his own muisc as well showing the uniqueness of music and making alternative muisc more popular when shitty sellouts were on the rise, kurt was a genius and bettter than ul ever be and once again ur anoither hater who supports our society's downfall, kurt was real.fag

  • @percypiggle6 nah i like it y do u think kurt coverd it..no not cuz it sucked.

  • Shut up about what brought you here everyone! for me it was just browsing around old blues videos and coming across this one. i didn't know it before, and i didn't know nirvana did a cover of it. personally, i think it's brilliant that nirvana did a cover of it, it's introduced so much blues music to our generation, regardless of how good nirvana are (but i think they're great)

  • A real music fan should have a little Leadbelly and Nirvana in their record collections. Fuck genre, good music is good music!

  • @GratefulVince I second that brother...

  • @GratefulVince

    thanks for the clarity.

    pigpen knew it too.

  • @justagirl123431 Can just pray that you will do the same some day.

  • @justagirl123431 I think you are a sick human being that obiviously doesn't know what real music is. Nirvana turned millions of people on to blue grass and I am a fan of ALL music Kurt was a great Americn poet and u are obiviously an idiot.

  • @machope100 Great American Poet? hahahaha

  • @justagirl123431 go fucking die in a hole you worthless fucking bitch.

  • Frank brought me here, but you guys don't know Frank so this shit's stupid.

  • @deagleninja go to hell.

  • @JTurden i think he is just kidding. there is no such a stupid man like he. can't be

  • THUMBS UP if you don't give a fuck who brought you here

  • @Hollington5678 I fucking love you

  • @deagleninja this is the original

  • Nirvana didn't bring me here, I was looking for some Leadbelly.

  • nirvana didnt brought me here

    plz thumbz upz

  • @totalroar yes, i am here because nirvana bring me here, but i am 14 and i think the idea of do a cover, its give the people the chance to learn something new

  • Never heard Nirvana's version first cos this is the original and I'm old school. ;)

  • @JayT851

I think rap music is more responsible for all the suck ass music . If we had more bands like nirvana around today music would be alot betterer.

  • @SAMMY5927 wrong!!!!!!!!

  • I at least appreciate that Nirvana did this cover of Leadbelly's song because they appreciated his music and it was to pay homage to him. Other bands like Ram Jam and CCR just took these songs to get fans and make money. Many very popular songs by white male and rock n roll stars are actually by amazing black artists from the 30's-60's. Big Mama Thornton's 'Hound Dog' is way better and makes more sense than the Elvis cover.

  • house of the rising sun brought me here.

  • Nirvana sent me here, but thats what music is about, listening to music and artists that inspire you to explore genres.

  • originals always better.

  • -troll voice- "this bastard needs to come up with his own songs, nirvana is ten times better!"

  • nirvana got me here, but this version is the best one!

  • People gotta stop arguing about wich version is better....

Kurt's version isn't better than this one.... it's just different.... then it's just about taste....some people like this better and some like kurt's better.... stop being dicks to one another cuz of this....both versions are good...

  • Lol, the thumb-up culture on youtube is hilarious at times

  • what a hipster. he covered nirvana years before nirvana.

  • @thelegallybronze love ya :D

  • this sounds like happy blues :o

  • Didn't know that 90 year olds knew how to use youtube, if Nirvana didn't bring you here that is

  • Nirvana brought me here.

  • thumbs up if it doesn't matter whether Nirvana brought them here, this is a great song

  • Kurt Cobain's version is better

  • @pablovinyard

    You're a fucking moron

  • @pablovinyard I also prefer it. Earlier doesn't always mean better. Perhaps I even prefer Jim Oblon(sp.?)'s version to Nirvana's.

  • @pablovinyard okay man, i love nirvana, because of course kurt cobain was the reason i'm listening to this...but you have a lot of god damn nerve to say that this is better, seeing as this is the original it's far better than kurts...so do us a favor and shut it.

  • Leadbelly is the shit

  • What the hell is wrong with Nirvana bringing me here? If anything, it's making the original song even more popular. You shitheads just need to chill your boners. And they're both amazing, so just stfu.

  • Curt Cobain's version cant measure you, Leadbelly the legend.

  • Oh and you all should check out Woody Guthrie. Great stuff.

  • I just like the real oldys and it was Texas Alexander that I got here by way of.

  • Thumbs up if you´re not shure why you´re here

  • What the fuck!! miley ciruses cover of SLTS, in the suggestions box, for a video of a song, that isnt even Nirvana!?!?!?!?!!!!

  • The White Stripes got me here. Although not to leadbelly specifically. I just have a chick boner for rag time. So raw

  • What is Nirvana?

  • thumbs up if you think it doesn't matter what brought you here and, regardless, it's a good thing that one artist may promote another artist and, as a result, for the fans to expand their tastes as the artists themselves had.

  • @Drewer123 Exactly.. u rock man good comment
