all what i can say is that Granat has quite fun to do this,i can see that.Nowadays i'm not sure if the horses have also fun.and if i'm well informed Granat was blind on one eye
have a look at the book of Harry Bold, Das Dressurpferd... very interesting pictures of that contest in that book... No need to read for those who...
It´s really interesting to see how horse names come and leave. Some years ago, when I started to buy (german) horse magazines, I always saw names like Goldfever, Sandro Hit, Sleep Late, Satchmo, Noltes Küchengirl, Shutterfly and Elvis VA. But today, I almost never see those names. Today they are called Moorlands Totilas, Hickstead, Corradina, El Santo, Plot Blue, Donnperignon, Vettori, Jerich Parzival, Mistral Hojris, Cedric, Urico, Ravel and of course the new show jumping hope Gotha. :)
This is what dressage is about. He is quite an ordinary horse, when not working he looked lonely without a cart behind him. But look at him working!! Wouldn't win prizes now, he is not flashy and showy enough. What has dressage come to? This is honest fair training of a horse, and what a pleasure he had in his work. No rolkur here. I wish we could go back to treating horses with respect.
@t6eatowel I totally agree. Nowadays, scores are given to preferred "dressage" breeds (whatever the heck that means). Why should dressage be restricted to only warmbloods? What a pity.
This is so much smoother and more classical than the riders we have today. It's amazing how much dressage has changed. It used to be for the welfare of the horse and because it was fun, but now it seems like everyone is using it as a way to get famous.... and now the horses are suffering from it.
i didnt know that you can get penalized for going over time lol - its great to compare modern dressage to the "vintage" version the horse and rider all seem happy and content.. not that many riders these days don't
The nodding head, driving seat, hands chopping up and down at every stride? Sorry, not my idea of beautiful, and I am old enough to have seen her in real life.

I remember these two! And you are right - he was rather ordinary compared to what they are riding and breeding now.

Granat was said to be in the style of an Olympic gymnast rather than a ballet dancer. This is the horse that horsepower is measured from.
