  • no Navy Seal could keep up with her ...lol

  • She is... beautiful, how lucky to be born with the perfect body and unbelievably talented as well. One in a million!

  • No one can do Don Quichotet like Sylvie because she is a true artist. Osipova is very talented and gifted abut nowhere on the same level as Sylvie, in dancing talent is not enought you also have to use braisn and soul plus the charisma. Osipova has left the Bolchoi for the Michailovsky and one can see that in the latest Gala we have seen in the Michailovsky that she is full of mannerisms and ticks, no artistry, Sylvie is a true artist. Can anyone name anaother dancer as versatiel as Sylvie?

  • @nakis74 Very well said. Sylvie is gifted in body, command of technique, charisma, and intellect that comes across onstage in a big way. Like her or not, her persona is powerful yet unforced, unlike certain stars who are all flash and of little substance. Osipova has good and bad points, but now it seems like she's mainly relying on audience-pleasing tricks, thereby lowering audiences' ballet IQ even more. Diana Vishneva comes close to Sylvie as far as today's dancers go.

  • @sangfroidjen Could not agree more with what you said. Sylvie Guillem is without doubt a most complete artist and she has set a standard for new generations of dancers with her performances, image, intelligence, diversity in her repertoire and artistic integrity. You are right about Vishneva who admires Guillem immensely by the way and who has constructed her career on her example without imitating her, intellignetly combining classical and modern dancing and expanding new artistic horizons.

  • Wow... this video still gives me happy chills.. She's awesome.

  • @proudtobeadancer : Actually, she's not even correcting Sylvie. She's telling her the good things she's doing. :p See,it IS impossible to correct her.

  • english sub please. :( i dont have speaker. =(

  • WTF? Does she really need a rehearsal director? SHE'S FUCKING PERFECT!

  • Oh my gosh!!! She's my favorite dancer of all time! And I just did a Don Quixote production at my dance studio this year! Its so amazing to see her dancing (much better I must say) to the same music I did! <3 <3 <3

  • what variation was the first one from? i know its not kitri but what is it? the one with all the traveling pirouettes

  • @applelemonhead3345 it is kitri :P act 3 variation I think

  • @Lucyballet1994 well see that's what i though, but every time i try and look for it by that title a different variation comes up

  • It annoys me that people think ballet's just a dance where you flit around in a pretty tutu and wave your arms. They think it's EASY.

  • @EverlastingxHope - I know... it is SO frustrating. They don't know what all your body goes through when you are up on that stage, especially when dancing with injuries.

  • ............wow..............

  • I love how you can hear her shoes beating against the ground as she dances... it is the only clue as to how much strength and effort she is putting into it, without it it's like she is just effortlessly floating

  • very harad!!

  • i could do that too.

  • It seems there is little room for improvement from this rehearsal... until one watches the next rehearsal!... Silvie Guillem Kitri Act 1-Solo

  • was something wrong with her foot?

  • @MegCT no ... pointe work just hurts :))

  • BETER W/ AGE

  • a legenda podia ser em portugues

  • that don quioxte was purely amazing!

  • The way she ended those turns with her arm up and thrusting her hip was absolutely hysterical! I'm sure she was making fun of her own self coming out of the turn!

  • Dressed like this,at 0:18 , i mean, Sylvie reminds me a picture of Degas, don't know why

  • @TheGEiSHOChan because she's a ballet dancer... duhhh!

  • Does someone know his stature?

  • 18 people fainted and accidently clicked the dislike button on their way down.

  • For someone so small she sounds like a "sack of potatoes hitting the floor". Our ballet instructor would have cracked our legs with a yard stick for that!!!!!! OUCH!

  • she doesn't jump.... she flys

  • Beautiful but she does not seem at all happy

  • @Beckarie16

I think, she´s one of the happiest person I´ve ever seen, but she has chosen a hard life! This video shows, that nobody become a professional without hard training and severe discipline and that´snot funny, it´s a fight!!!!

  • j'adore ses pieds, sauts, extensions, bras, TOUT!!

  • WOW. it's always amazing to see an artist at work.

  • shes amazing!

  • I love her arches!

  • so glad i speak french...

  • she just makes it look so easy!

  • shes amazing...!!!!!

  • why r people 'hating' when someone writes they like someone better?!??! get over it, people are allowed their own opinions

  • Simply amazing. This is why she is the best french Ballerina ever to prance on stage. Her en dehors were a perfect example of how to be done perfectly en pointe!

  • dude your totally right shes fanominal in that

  • I dont have knowledge enough .. but Guillen seems very fast... ever..

Zakharova looks like a ballerina...only dance..

  • i love Sylvie, but no one can do Don Quixote better than Osipova!!!!

  • That is so beautiful! If i could be 1/3 as good as her i would be amazing!

  • I love her dancing...its so diferent, so strong...

  • is it just me or is she really loud landing the jumps ? its probably just the floor or something.

    because she looks perfect!

    shes ammaazziinngg

  • random ? in titanic, ya know how rose goes up on her toes. does anyone know the name of the dancer that does it for kate winslet?

  • At 0:30 when she lands she looks like she's had a little too many beers.

  • Agreed!

    x

  • her shoe broke

  • You can't really compare Fonteyn or the ballerinas from decades ago to the prima ballerinas now. The styles are completly different. Back then it was all about artistry, now its about leg extensions and turnout.

  • Oh, yes, wich is very sad. The Darcey Bussels and Sylvie Guillems of today can't be compared to Ulanova or Fonteyn...

  • No. You can't compare them. Ulanova, Plisetskaya and Fonteyn are in a different class altogether.

Prokofiev said about Ulanova: She is the genius of Russian ballet, its elusive soul, its inspired poetry. Ulanova imparts to her interpretation of classical roles a depth of expression unheard of in twentieth century ballet.

Would he or anyone seriously say such a thing about Guillem or any other ballerina now? I doubt it.

  • it's all a matter of perspective.

in 30-40 years, people will be talking about todays dancers in the same glorified rosy way.. people tend to think that all things were better in the past.

  • But you should read historic accounts and reviews! Some dancers were greatly critised then too. But the greats...oh, I believe they were divine. We even have footage of some of them. But dancers now are also great. But dance is different.

  • I agree, people talk about opera that way. I think the opera singers of today are phenomenal, but people disregard them for former greats.

  • @dulcicantor exactly! i was in an opera and the other singers were so talented but offstage they were so different. i was in the Austin Lyric Opera hansel and gretel.

  • @mrparts

What?? 30-40 years? Actually this video is younger than 25 years, Sylvie is a dancer of the PRESENT (not of the past), she still dances as well as you can see over there (I saw her at La Scala in Milan, january 2011 as Manon, perfect body, perfect pointe technique, as brilliant as always). She isn't afraid of any younger dancer. Every younger dancer took inspiration by her.

  • @prossimamente- That was the poster's point. Some people say that dancers of today aren't as good as dancers of years ago; that they now lack a certain charm, grace, blah blah etc. etc. But 20-30 years from now, people will be just as praising of these dancers (Sylvie, Svetlana, Natalia, etc.) as much as they praise Fonteyn or Pavlova. People have an obsession with the past.

  • @mrparts I couldn't agree more!

  • @mrparts because they become less and less charming and graceful each and every year...

  • ballet freak. ur knee can not possibly be turned complrtly in if your hip is turned out thewrefore if i see your knee caps your turned in. it probably comes from her days as a rythmic gymnast. she didn't start ballet till about 12 or 13

  • i can't seem to define the word "jealousy" quite enough in this instance...

  • She is not up there with the likes of Margot, and Maya. Then again who is?

  • are you kidding!??! Sylvie Guillem is the best dancer in the world... shes the highest paid dancer ever in the history of the world! and its a rehearsal... all the videos you see of Margot and Maya are on the stage.. if you havent noticed!

  • People have a hangup about money these days. The amount you are paid doesn't say how good you are. Many are paid far too much these days. In my opinion, Galina Ulanova was a much much better dancer than Sylvie Guillem ever was.

  • that is a lie.

    i agree with balletfreak107 10000%

sylvie is amazing and much better then galina

  • Wow! I cannot believe you have said such a thing. Guillem will be soon forgotten. Ulanova will never be forgotten.

  • That's ridiculous, you can't even begin to compare them- they are from completely different eras therefore the way in which they dance (the emphasis on emotion vs athletic-ness) is completely different- rendering neither better or worse than the other.

  • best comment ever.

  • i absolutely agree! sylvie is my ballet idol, i would kill to be a quarter as good as her.

  • ahhhh. im so jealous. she is such a beautiful dancer and so skinny!

  • Her poor foot looks like it was killing her yet she danced so beautifully.

  • has any one ever noticed that she's a bit turned in. it's hard to tell if u pay to much atention to her feet or how high the leg goes but look at her knees...

  • TURN out does NOt come from the knees... it comes from the HIPS! duh

  • omg you're right:D

  • bla! feet! hyperextension! amazing!

    AND REALLY SKINNY.

  • she does kitri at the end

i know this is totally random but im doin the kitri variation for competition this year lol

but she has the most amazing point of her foot

    like when she leaps

    =)

    BEAUTIFUL

  • she is just simply amazing.....:-)

  • OMGSH! She is the best ballerina I have ever seen! Go Sylvie!

  • Bravo Bravo!!!!!

  • how intimidating that must be to be her rehearsal director! to CORRECT sylvie guillem? is that possible?!

  • oh my goodness, i was thinking the exact same thing! "oh, um, yes, so.. *ehem* pointe your feet more?!" hahaha

  • LOL

i guess it's their job, though, and any decent dancer should WANT corrections, so it wouldn't be too terrifying.

  • @proudtobeadancer you can't become etoile alone ! every body, even Sylvie Guillem, need the help and the experience of an older dancer. Sylvie couldn't learn kitri alone ; Sylvie has talent, but she isnt perfect.

  • @proudtobeadancer Her rehearsal director is Ghislaine Thesmar...she was not too shabby in her day either!

  • @proudtobeadancer how can you say that ... Sylvie is as good as she is because of the amazing teachers (= ballerinas) she had ! Yvette Chauviré (prima ballerina) taught her ... i dont think it was intimidating at all :))

  • she is so GOOD!!!!

  • omg the best ballerina in the world doing my favourite ballet!

    magical =]]

  • è la migliore!!!

  • she's simple the best!!!!!!!!!

  • Sylvie Guillem : LA DANZA.

  • She is so funny and cute! haha, she is very expresive...after turning...;D

  • How did you get this video?

  • she has really hyper extended skinny arms like me. mine can look so ugly sometimes!!! she just proves to me that i CAN figure out how to make my arms look good! thanks svetlana!! :-)

  • oops!!!!!! i meant sylvie! i was looking at svetlana not two minutes ago! hehe

  • funny how she's so fantastic and still has someone coach her. And im not making fun or anything- she is fabulous- but just merely saying that you can never stop learning ya know.

  • i totally agree with you. and it shows her character that she listens and cares because many principals think they're above that.

  • I'd love to b like her someday..XXD

  • lol, after all the turns she looks drunk, but she still brilliant

  • yes she does, but its cute hehe

  • Of course it's French. After all, Mlle. Guillem est Francaise.

  • OMG... She makes AMAZING grand jettes... unbelievable... Hers and Polina's are unbelievable... it's like she makes absolutely no effort at all.

  • what a professional, she is brilliant!

  • where there are not muscles there are bones... so thin! but she's so perfect...

  • sylvie is just perfect

  • i agree

  • her leaps are AMAZING.

  • elle est magnifique! vive sylvie!!

  • those pique turns are so fast. i wouldn't blaim her for being so tired!

  • Sylvie looks like in extreme pain. Ballerinas can handle a lot of pain. So if she stopped dancing, the pain must have been unbearable.

    I love her anyway!

  • jowsbrazil: for us dancers, extreme pain is normal and comun all the days of our lifes, since our first posicion at 8 years old to our last performance is all extreme pain, but we like it, we love ballet is a painfull blessed.

  • aircat, you're a dork. Chances are, jowsbrazil is a dancer too.

  • She is so wonderfull - merveilleuse

  • i guess u could say i'm slightly obsessed with her legs and feet

  • aww. i did Don Quixote! I think she is pretty good!

  • more like a bad foot day. that right forefoot/ankle looks bad, so painful. you can see the bruised streaks that _are_ the muscles. poor lady. been there, done that, but didn't look like her, fer shure.

  • Sorry but I think she was having a "bad hair day". Sylvie would rather that this video quietly disappeared, I think.

  • I donn't understand why Is that I don't like her.... I mean she is good, but she doesn't touch my soul. I wonder why

  • well she iss rehearsing. when i am in rehearsal i'm usually not trying to touch anybody's soul. even so, you are entitled to your personal taste.

  • this is just rehersals

  • This is rehearsals !!!! gosh

  • this is kitri, a very strong and powerful role, besids that it's only a rehersal.

  • ohh qu'elle exigence de son professeure !!

  • she is such a great ballerina.

    her feet are outstanding!

even when she is tired, it looks like she is performing in front of a crowd!

    :)

  • eh, she kind of seems like a primadonna.

  • I think her flexibility really helps her!

  • Bonjour !

  • lmao!

    absolutely incredible!

she is without a doubt the greatest female dancer of our generation!

  • Omg someone with the name Sylvie lol Jks Thats my name :)

  • she's one of my faves =]

    such strengh and beauty...

  • Pardoneme, no hablo espanol muy bien, entonces voy a responder en ingles: I do not think artistic gymnastics (with the flips and uneven bars) is beneficial to a ballerina. They use jazz technique instead of ballet technique, which can be confusing for a young dancer. Also, artistic gymnastics training is very hard on the body, so why wear yourself out any faster? Gymnastics can also produce a short, thick physique that is not appropriate for ballet.

  • ...

  • Geez people... stop posting sex related comments for publicity... this is ballet, this is art, life, beauty.... show some respect. ¬¬ Guillem's awesome. =D

  • (: amazing! loved it the whole clip through.

    :( I hope she wasn't injured though...

  • She is truly one of a kind- one in a billion. A rare thing is a dancer with such perfect technique and flow that is so on the edge of wildness and ecccentricity- but she never loses her precision. Besides that, she has superb physicality for dance- very long, lean legs, and extreme flexibiltiy. The vast majority of even company dancers pale in comparision to her.

  • she is my best ballet dancer - really, good techni

  • she is my all time favorite ballerina

  • WOW........

  • I think she slipped because her shoe shank broke...that's why she put on another one..

  • no other ballerina can match this stunning performers skill

  • she is pretty i like her and how she fights her pain!

  • Please watch HISTORY OF BOLSHOI BALLET - 4 of 6

    minute 2!

    The best Kitri ever!!!!!!!!!!

    Enjoy!

  • she is wonderful...are there no piano tuners in paris, though?

  • haha, I was wondering the same thing

  • i love her!!! but that slip was pretty funny! haha but she's amazing

  • I think she didn't strech her legs all the time...

Just joking, she's amazing!!! Wish I could see her live!

  • Did you ever wonder if they SPEAK Spanish? I think it's French, by the way.

  • well how should i know? i'm not a scientist or whatever!

  • i think they're just speaking their own language, perfectly within their right.

  • Yes it is French.

  • Elle parle en Francais

  • Sie sprechen Deutche !!!

  • Simplesmente linda!

    Queroo essa ponta pra miim!!

  • I have always wondered why Sylvie never danced nureyev's choreography...

  • Sylvie was promoted to the rank of etoile after her debut in Nureyev's own production of Swan Lake by R
