I don't care about race and am not in the food service industry, but if you are not going to tip for good service eat at home! This goes for all. @SpookeyR If your server is paid the $15 an hr that they deserve, your $8 or $9 burger would end up costing you over $30. Tipping is not a scam. It keeps the cost of food down. Tips are paid for the SERVICE of being waited on. You tip/pay for that person to wait on you. If you don't want to pay the person for the work they're doing for you, stay home and do it yourself. They're working for you when they take your order, bring your food, and all the other things you have them run for.

I admit that I rarely go out, to eat; but, that doesn't keep me from eating out ever. If you were my server and you wanted a tip from me you'd get one upon finding my spit dangling from the end of your nose!
One last point... I know many drivers who only offer the extras like peppers, cheese, and napkins if they receive a tip. If you're one of those who DON'T give a little extra, then don't expect any extra. Just remember, the gas that goes into the delivery driver's vehicle isn't any cheaper than the gas that goes in yours, so think about that before you decide to stiff them, and slam the door in their face. Eventually, you may find out that you're "out of our delivery area" when you call in.
Here's a 'tip' for everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, or creed..... If you don't have money to tip the person who delivers your pizza, then you can't afford delivery. Calculate how much you spend in gas and time by picking up a pizza in your OWN vehicle and compare that to an average tip of $2.00 for every $10 you spend per order. You will be surprised how it evens out. Unfortunately, some people have been raised with an entitlement mentality, and will NEVER tip under any circumstances.

So when I roll my eyes because I expect to get stiffed,then get a truly generous (or any) tip, I feel ashamed because of the conditioning my job brings on. T.I.P. = To Insure Promptness. I have observed this phenomenon time and again that the majority of black people i serve simply do not tip or tip far below 10%. I do not create stereotypes, but i do observe them daily and it is the reason why my black tables come LAST on my priority list and all my other tables come FIRST. if your food is late, its because i am too busy taking care of all my other guests that do tip. if your order is wrong, frankly, i don't give a shit.

where I work, black people do tip, but 1.39 tip on a $35 tab, hmmm, but they do tip, maybe not the 15% all of the time, but as long as anyone leaves me somethin im happy, and also where i work the black people tip the black waitresses and waiters worse than the white waiters and waitresses...I still treat every person I serve the EXACT same.. had black people leave me $20 all the way down to 1.39...and I have had my fair share of white people with bad tips as well...

Spooky, if restaurants paid their wait staff the federally mandated minimum wage, then your $5.99 burger and fries now becomes your $10.99 burger and fries. Also, good servers know that there are going to be people like you that don't like to tip. If you don't want to tip a server that gave you phenomenal service then that is your choice. I still know that at the end of the week, I will have over $750.00 after tax dollars in my pocket for about 32 hours worth of work.
Also, for those of you that think servers get minimum wage you are wrong. In Virginia, servers make $2.13/hr. That is just enough to cover the federal, state and medicare payroll deduction. It is not enough to cover those of us that have medical insurance taken out of our paychecks. Without tips, there would be no servers.
I am a white server. Been at it for 4 years. White people are worse tippers than Black people. PERIOD!!! I am also a damn good server and know how to treat all of my guests with respect. Black people reward good service with a good tip whereas White people typically do not. Also, when it comes to the Sunday church crowd, I don't even want to wait on a white table. They don't want & have never wanted to pay them a "living wage" upon which they can pay their bills, feed their families & such.
As someone who worked the restaurant industry for a while, I can say this is completely true. The majority of black people give poor to no tips. Back then 200$ a day was easy and the average was roughly 18% tip. All the bad tips were from black people or single fat mothers, this is testimony.

Tips are paid for the SERVICE of being waited on. You tip/pay for that person to wait on you. If you don't want to pay the person for the work they're doing for you, stay home and do it yourself. They're working for you when they take your order, bring your food, and all the other things you have them run for.

One last point... I know many drivers who only offer the extras like peppers, cheese, and napkins if they receive a tip. If you're one of those who DON'T give a little extra, then don't expect any extra. Just remember, the gas that goes into the delivery driver's vehicle isn't any cheaper than the gas that goes in yours, so think about that before you decide to stiff them, and slam the door in their face. Eventually, you may find out that you're "out of our delivery area" when you call in.

Here's a 'tip' for everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, or creed..... If you don't have money to tip the person who delivers your pizza, then you can't afford delivery. Calculate how much you spend in gas and time by picking up a pizza in your OWN vehicle and compare that to an average tip of $2.00 for every $10 you spend per order. You will be surprised how it evens out. Unfortunately, some people have been raised with an entitlement mentality, and will NEVER tip under any circumstances.

T.I.P. = To Insure Promptness. I have observed this phenomenon time and again that the majority of black people i serve simply do not tip or tip far below 10%. Its not just about being taken care of. When you don't tip you are taking away from someones groceries, their children, and maybe even there ability to pay a utility bill. i wish people would show the tip before they order.I work at a breakfast restaurant that's in a decent area and I average 20-24% tip.there are only a few people who tip less than 20% and fewer who tip 10% or less.10% or less are usually the old senile and the young teenage girls(and they are the regulars.)I found blacks tip me the best... my secret is bring straws, extra napkins, and extra lemons to the table. And I always check back to make sure everything is perfect before they get irritated

I just think Black people need to be more informed about tipping and the low wage that these waiters actually make that they depend on tips to pay their bills. Hope that helps.

I used to be a waiter throughout my college years, and I can tell you that most Blacks I waited on either tipped very small like 4 dollars on 100 or didn't tip at all. I just think that it is that the Black community just needs some help in education on tipping in restaurants. We need to all help each other.

thank you for supporting us man , i work in a buffet, and i had a party of 50 people and no one tip me, i know is a buffet but u still get service. and they did abig mess , i almost cry cause i was really upset, its only 0.50 cents per head and you still dont tip. i know everybody is not like them cause i got some really good guest that are black and they tip me good ,unfortunally its only afew of them , but ill be happy when thy stat to tip atleast 0.25 cents per head. thak you for the suppor

Spooky, if restaurants paid their wait staff the federally mandated minimum wage, then your $5.99 burger and fries now becomes your $10.99 burger and fries. Also, good servers know that there are going to be people like you that don't like to tip. If you don't want to tip a server that gave you phenomenal service then that is your choice. I still know that at the end of the week, I will have over $750.00 after tax dollars in my pocket for about 32 hours worth of work.

Also, for those of you that think servers get minimum wage you are wrong. In Virginia, servers make $2.13/hr. That is just enough to cover the federal, state and medicare payroll deduction. It is not enough to cover those of us that have medical insurance taken out of our paychecks. Without tips, there would be no servers.

I am a white server. Been at it for 4 years. White people are worse tippers than Black people. PERIOD!!! I am also a damn good server and know how to treat all of my guests with respect. Black people reward good service with a good tip whereas White people typically do not. Also, when it comes to the Sunday church crowd, I don't even want to wait on a white table. They come to the restaurant angry. Black people come happy.

@EAP775150 I dont know where you work but I have been in the service industry in some aspect for upwards of 25 years ranging from management, ownership, pizza delivery to driving a cab and its is an honest to god fact that Black and Indian (From India) are the poorest tippers and its even in about 2 dozen static sheets. Black people have a common trend to look for the worst service possible just to use that against you to avoid a tip. Now not all follow the trend but a vast majority do.

Tipping, as an idea, was created by the restaurant, hotel & services industries as an out for them; a way for them to save money & for their employee's to be paid what they, often, do truly deserve. They & their lobbyist's got themselves exempt from that legislation, so that they wouldn't be responsible for paying their employee's properly.

Decades ago, when the "minimum wage" became law, the services industry (restuarant & hotel industry, etc.,) sent their lobbyists to Washington D.C. to secure for themselves an out, to get themselves to be excempt from the minimum wage. These industries don't want & have never wanted to pay their employees what they are worth. (Generally, minimum wage AND UP!!) They don't want & have never wanted to pay them a "living wage" upon which they can pay their bills, feed their families & such.

As someone who worked the restaurant industry for a while, I can say this is completely true. The majority of black people give poor to no tips. Back then 200$ a day was easy and the average was roughly 18% tip. All the bad tips were from black people or single fat mothers, this is testimony.

This just happen a few minutes ago. Nice clean looking black woman, at a Vietnamese resturant. No tip at all, lol. She gave the exact amount too hahaha. 13.45 to be exacted. I'm at the library right now I just had to order something to go and come back. This happen to me a lot too when I was a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza. Don't get me wrong a lot of people don't tip but it's just mainly black people.

Earl im skeptical, im a white boy from idaho so i dont know a whole lot about it and im sure you know more than i do. I could see a lot of people of all ethnicities neglecting a tip, for a variety of reasons, not just those who are suffering.. who even so shouldnt go for service they cant afford. My ex was a bartender, in a mostly white/mixed bar, and she was always complaining about tips. cheers man, you're a great human being, period.

I am Black, and I NEVER stiffed anyone on a tip, but our reputation for not tipping is so prevalent that whenever I go to a restaurant with other Black friends, you can just see the look of consternation on the White waiter's face because he/she assumes we are gonna stiff them. OR if a white person is with me, they will automatically hand him the bill, assuming (and hoping) that he is gonna be settling the tab...BLACK PEOPLE STOP BEING INCONSIDERATE! TIP YOUR WAITERS!

tip because it is a good service you have been provided by an underpaid human that is trying to stay alive the honorable way. not because of stigma you percieve. it is a good thought and you may be trying to do the right thing. but do it because it is deserved not because of some sort of percieved stigma. I delivered pizzas for 5 yrs and did a good job, got speeding tickets... and some people were just not going to tip... that's that. thank you for your tip my friend... that's it.
