A friend of my family had a prosthetic leg. He was going through some training for the local police department and dared a guy to shoot him in the leg with a taser. When he didn't flinch or anything the idiot who took the bet tased himself and wound up unconscious. It's a dangerous, but ultimately hilarious (and apparently fairly well paying) prank to do with a prosthetic. Don't try it, though. It was also stupid.

Actually, it's easier for the human mind to get over big, life-changing traumas than smaller losses. It doesn't really make any difference for ones happiness in the long run if you lose a leg, feeling in your lower body or sight.
