The commercial farmers of South Africa are a treasure and need to be protected and treated with the respect they deserve. They should be encouraged to apprentice new aspiring farmers of all races so that South Africa can feed its growing population in the future. The murderers must be brought to justice. Farming at a commercial level which provides food to a hungry population requires an array of skills that take many years to aquire. Knowing how to fix a tractor, irrigation installation, IPM ( intigrated pest management) etc are just a few of those skills. Business skills are also needed if a farm is to be viable. Successful Commercial farmers are in fact some of the most skilled professionals in society and are noble in that they produce that life sustaining necessity food.
I have relatives who were farmers in South Africa. They sold their South African farm and bought land in Iowa and continue to produce that most necessary commodity - food. I am a landscape architect and contactor and know just a little bit about commercial farming. I know enough about commercial farming to know that if I were to aquire a farm with excellant soil and irrigation complete with well maintained tractors I would run it into the ground. Why? Because I don't know how to farm.

Farming at a commercial level which provides food to a hungry population requires an array of skills that take many years to aquire. Knowing how to fix a tractor, irrigation installation, IPM ( intigrated pest management) etc are just a few of those skills. Business skills are also needed if a farm is to be viable. Successful Commercial farmers are in fact some of the most skilled professionals in society and are noble in that they produce that life sustaining necessity food.

I have relatives who were farmers in South Africa. They sold their South African farm and bought land in Iowa and continue to produce that most necessary commodity - food. I am a landscape architect and contactor and know just a little bit about commercial farming. I know enough about commercial farming to know that if I were to aquire a farm with excellant soil and irrigation complete with well maintained tractors I would run it into the ground. Why? Because I don't know how to farm.

Julius Malema has openly praised Robert Mugabe for the 'great work' he's done with farm-reforms. I don't know where you get the anti-apartheid photo's. It just so happens that farm murders went up drastically since 1994 (see statistics). I lost family in farm murders, so this is NOT propaganda.

@imhotep1 I can't speak for everyone, but the ones I knew were paid and treated very well. You obviously nevery lived there, thus your ignorance. In general farmers are not aggainst redistribution of land, but they want more support from government to teach these new farmers how to farm. They also don't want to be murdered. If you're referring to photo 6:08, it shows the inefficiency of today's government to address wrongs of the past. If photo 6:27, 1 wrong doesn't make another wrong right

@imhotep1 You are an example of why ignorant people should not be allowed free speech. If you had known anything about SA today you would know that we have the world's most inflexible labour laws. Farm workers specifically are protected. Farm attacks are not done by farm workers. There are a few isolated incidents, but then its new workers and not the permanent ones who had been working for years for a farmer. Lastly, an increasing number of farm attacks involve even the police...

@RapidCS Thank you. Couldn't have said it any better. It's mostly illegals from accross the border looking for work. If the farmer doesn't give them work, they murder them out of revenge. If they do, they'll kill them a couple of months later. A no win situation really, but it's very rare for the longterm workers to be involved. There has been incidences in fact where they have warned the farmer of an attack if it has come to their attention.
