IN reality that car would have been on pole and miles agead of the others. Japans always tend to let their japan cars shine. Every car magazine in europe and on the world tells you that the 911 is miles ahead in lap times, just look at track times from famous car magazines, unbiased!

Driver in S2000 was moving out of the way for the rest of the cars. Why? Who put him in that car? He is suave with his fast shifting but can not follow the race line when taking the corner. He gave up before the race even started.

From what I undertand the Cayman is basically tuned down by Porsche to be slower than the 911 so they can charge alot more for the legendary 911. The Cayman could easily be the better car if they'd put the same motor from the 911. The mid ship configuration of the Cayman easily out handles the rear engined 911. I'd take the Cayman S over a regular Carrera any day and use the extra money to buy another car.

i think that nissan should tune the nismo Z more aggressively than they do. Z's used to be the fastest cars in their class so i think nismo should keep up with that tradition and possibly add a turbo to it and have it sitting around 425HP. that would be awesome, and it wouldn't be too hard to do. i mean of course it would up the cost, but it would be so worth it.
It so happens that my dad has a 06' 997 4s, my mom has the bmw 135 and I have an 01' 996 (dads old car he sold me). I've driven a 370z and the thing is a beast so i wasnt surprised by its results. In my opinion the 135 is a girls car since my mom drives one.... I was surprised however by the cayman s because even though its an s (guessing that year has the 3.4 320 hp?) it easily kept ahead of the carreras pdk which i thought would have made it faster.

@mtgear1 it's actually a pretty realistic result. a lot of testers like the cayman more than the 911, and of course a lot more than the not very refined 370z. only area where the cayman maybe lacks vs the others in this test is horsepower

I live in Japan, so I have learnt the language. I agree that they have to be biased in favor of Jap cars, otherwise makers will not lend them the cars to test. Same as Top Gear or any other TV program.

I want an S2000 so bad, it puts up a really good fight for what it has(4 cyl, 9 years old, just ended production June 09), and I'm thinking of going for a Cayman after owning a S2000. But then there's that 370Z, which had the fastest lap time.
my friend has an s2k I have to say there isn't any thing i don't like about the car. of course i haven't driven it though. The 370z is fast but I'm not to crazy about the styling but I think it would grow on me if i enjoyed driving it enough

Interesting video... great heel-toe techniques, so the drivers are definitely experienced. Not sure if this was an actual test or not, but the cayman s is a fast machine, only a little less powerful than its 911 big brother, but if they had an LSD on it wouldn't have been close. Plus the cayman can out handle a 911 thanks to a centrally located engine... 911s is further back. :)
Actually, in Tsukuba, base 997 Carrera (Gen 1) can outrun Cayman S. Best Motoring did the test a few years ago. (In Nurburgring, Cayman S posted quicker time though).
Note: In this test, 911 Carrera serves as a camera car to observe Cayman S vs. Z34 battle. Kinoshita (911 driver) does early-braking several times and not overtaking Z34.

If you guys want to know a real secret, the 370z is not living up to its potential because the suspension is not very well sorted. The ride height is too high. The damping is too soft. Spring rates are good, but intended for too long of travel because of the soft damping rates. Roll bars are good, maybe a touch too soft. The 911 and Cayman, on the other hand are very well sorted. Not truely track worthy, but much better than the Z. (I have a 370z with sport package).
Agree totally, I saw a brand new 370 in the showroom and the gap between top of tire and wheel arch is so high....looks so dumb for a sports car. Anyways the 911was never going to win here and was only entered to serve as jap kicking post to show home grown nissan as great. Cayman was only allowed to win to give some cred else the BS of this banal clip would be too obvious.
This was stupid. The final order meant nothing. It was all about the drivers. The Cayman turned the third fastest time, but won overall because the driver was good. The 911 turned the fastest time but came in 3rd because the driver was not good.

I have a AP1 S2000 and will soon have an AP2 for the wife. Ive never been a fan of the 350Z or Nissan in general but the new 370Z address all the issues I had with the 350Z. Awesome car for the money.
Lack of of overall refinement and the fact that it wasnt as responsive as Id liked were the most annoying features the 350 had in my eyes. The 370Z however is more than I expected as its improved on all fronts.
I think you have your numbers mixed up. The base Carrera has 325hp and does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, and the 1/4 in 13 seconds flat. That's basically 370Z numbers.
Maybe I was looking at the S then, either way the Porsche is a superior machine my dad has a Carrera 4S 06 and it could smoke any stock 350 or 370z like nothin
You were actually right. Maybe he was looking at the 911 before they got the power bump to 345hp (from 325hp), Porsche claims 4.7 seconds for this PDK 911, but as with the cayman s (Porsche's cayman s claim- 4.9s, Motor Trend test-4.5s) the 911 could probably get it in 4.5s or even less

every time i see videos like this it makes me more disappointed with honda's decision with the s2000. i love, adore and own an ap2, but when compared with cars on the track, it just isn't fast enough.
people always argue, it doesn't need anymore power, it's about the handling of the vehicle, well, if it were all about that, why the hell did it lose? not just this video, but plenty of others. the answer, because it's way way way way underpowered compared to alot of the others.
I love the s2k also and am incredibly dissappointed that the successor has been shelved. I have been holding out for that car for 2 years now. I have no choice but to turn to nissan now.

That is true, the Cayman is a rear-mid engine setup whereas the 911 is rear engine...
The Cayman does handle better and would absolutely outhandle the 911 (Carrera) if Porsche hadn't de-tuned it by leaving out an LSD...
(Now that I say that, I'm not sure if the Cayman has an LSD or not, Porsche included an LSD in the 09+ models S models)

I live in Japan, so I have learnt the language. I agree that they have to be biased in favor of Jap cars, otherwise makers will not lend them the cars to test. Same as Top Gear or any other TV program.

I want an S2000 so bad, it puts up a really good fight for what it has(4 cyl, 9 years old, just ended production June 09), and I'm thinking of going for a Cayman after owning a S2000. But then there's that 370Z, which had the fastest lap time.

my friend has an s2k I have to say there isn't any thing i don't like about the car. of course i haven't driven it though. The 370z is fast but I'm not to crazy about the styling but I think it would grow on me if i enjoyed driving it enough

Interesting video... great heel-toe techniques, so the drivers are definitely experienced. Not sure if this was an actual test or not, but the cayman s is a fast machine, only a little less powerful than its 911 big brother, but if they had an LSD on it wouldn't have been close. Plus the cayman can out handle a 911 thanks to a centrally located engine... 911s is further back. :)

Actually, in Tsukuba, base 997 Carrera (Gen 1) can outrun Cayman S. Best Motoring did the test a few years ago. (In Nurburgring, Cayman S posted quicker time though).
Note: In this test, 911 Carrera serves as a camera car to observe Cayman S vs. Z34 battle. Kinoshita (911 driver) does early-braking several times and not overtaking Z34.

you can see the guy driving the carerra acualtly breaking early! and not going for full throttle all the time!
see the video again and in the last when he tried to pass him it was 100% win for the carrera but then the driver seems to take off his foot from the throttle is very clear to see!

If you guys want to know a real secret, the 370z is not living up to its potential because the suspension is not very well sorted. The ride height is too high. The damping is too soft. Spring rates are good, but intended for too long of travel because of the soft damping rates. Roll bars are good, maybe a touch too soft. The 911 and Cayman, on the other hand are very well sorted. Not truely track worthy, but much better than the Z. (I have a 370z with sport package).

Agree totally, I saw a brand new 370 in the showroom and the gap between top of tire and wheel arch is so high....looks so dumb for a sports car. Anyways the 911was never going to win here and was only entered to serve as jap kicking post to show home grown nissan as great. Cayman was only allowed to win to give some cred else the BS of this banal clip would be too obvious.

This was stupid. The final order meant nothing. It was all about the drivers. The Cayman turned the third fastest time, but won overall because the driver was good. The 911 turned the fastest time but came in 3rd because the driver was not good.

370z manual , alcantara stitch was 1st class, 19" rims stole local AutoShow, Made $30k RX8 look weakass, int had more style than base Box or Cayman. '99 Porsche went wrong on interior from Detroit. 350z Nismo put RX8 to shame, 370z puts Nismo to shame. Jag brought some tough 420hp SC black sedans and coupes to show, MB $100 SL w/ paddle, no AMG. Volvo red SUV with stitched leather was best seat award, $30k

I have a AP1 S2000 and will soon have an AP2 for the wife. Ive never been a fan of the 350Z or Nissan in general but the new 370Z address all the issues I had with the 350Z. Awesome car for the money.

Lack of of overall refinement and the fact that it wasnt as responsive as Id liked were the most annoying features the 350 had in my eyes. The 370Z however is more than I expected as its improved on all fronts.

0-60 in 4.5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in about 12, that's just for the basic model not the PDK.

I think you have your numbers mixed up. The base Carrera has 325hp and does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, and the 1/4 in 13 seconds flat. That's basically 370Z numbers.

You were actually right. Maybe he was looking at the 911 before they got the power bump to 345hp (from 325hp), Porsche claims 4.7 seconds for this PDK 911, but as with the cayman s (Porsche's cayman s claim- 4.9s, Motor Trend test-4.5s) the 911 could probably get it in 4.5s or even less

every time i see videos like this it makes me more disappointed with honda's decision with the s2000. i love, adore and own an ap2, but when compared with cars on the track, it just isn't fast enough.
people always argue, it doesn't need anymore power, it's about the handling of the vehicle, well, if it were all about that, why the hell did it lose? not just this video, but plenty of others. the answer, because it's way way way way underpowered compared to alot of the others.
