The hold was allowed to go beyond the natural range of motion. Thus, by rule it is illegal. However, poor michanics by the official allowed this situation to go too far and he lost control of the match following this situation - ruling - he should have stopped it sooner with a PD and restarted - but then too the offended wrestler was a big pussy and was just hanging on - should have stood up, started the clock and then default. Bet he lost the championship match too.

The situation looks like it could have been prevented (potentially dangerous), and I heard the official was verbally warning the offense wrestler on situation he was forcing. The person video taping obviously had no class talking to the young man the way he did. Hopefully there were no young kids close to him to hear his comments

one time i saw 4 guys kissing in a park and i thought that was the gayest thing I've ever seen.... until I saw that brutal display of a classic half nelson depicted in this wrestling video.

I am going to have to agree with chriscarlino on this one folks. I am from Uzbekistan and have been wrestling since i was 7 months old. This sport has just gotten way to psychical. I am going to make a petition to all refs across the globe to stand up and make more calls like this brave ref.

Was the standard of wrestling a lot worse back then? The injured kid looks like a first year. I don't think he even attempted a wrestling move all match and this was the state semis.

I am from New Jersey and been involved in wrestling since of the age of 8 and i think that there needs to be more calls such as that one. This jason townsend charcther was obviously way too agressive. That type of wrestling has no place on the mat. I think the sport has gotten way out of hand. Just think if we continue to allow people to throw halfs such as the one that "jason Townsend" throw, we all will be living under the rule of radical facist muslims. Think about it.

I'm frm Iowa,& wrestled since age 6.Terrible call; about the worst I've ever seen. It wouldn't have happened in Iowa, FOR SURE. The coach should have done the right thing and forced the wrestler to stand up & bow out. Townsend lost his 3rd state title on this? He came to the mat to wrestle; the other guy didn't even attempt to; stalling should have been called early. Nothing illegal about the move. Hope Townsend went on to D-1 to wrestle. I wonder if he is still involved in the sport today?

Coach Martin and that Straightiff boy should be ashamed. Wrestling is meant to build honor, toughness, and integrity. Not destroy it. What an incredible injustice. Since we know that there are so called "competitors" like this, the tournament director should have over-turned this absolutely absurd outcome. Can you imagine how it must have felt to have your third state title, and your place in history stolen from you??? The entire wrestling community loses on this one.
