  • I've watched this about 19 times in the last hour.

  • A really touching scene.

  • I cant even explain why, but this scene made my eyes water when I first saw it. It just came out of nowhere and had that perfect calm vibe to it, and you could just see the connection. Songs like this make me forget all the pain and negativity. I could watch this scene a thousand times.

  • My favorite scene from one of Wes Anderson's best movies.

  • @MadMan731 I totally agree with you MadMan. Fantastic scene, and it may be my favorite scene in all of film.

  • She is beautiful

  • so simple and sentimental

  • THEESSS DAAAYSSS

  • The most magical scene in all of cinema.

  • best scene in the whole world.

  • best movie seen ever.

  • I don't know if it's something about the color scheme, or the white balance, or whatever, but everything in a Wes movie looks so soft.

  • randall poster is my favorite person because of this music.

  • god i love this fucking movie ::tears in eyes::

  • My favorite scene of the film. Wes Anderson doesn't need original pieces of music for a film to work the cinematography in with the music. He weaves them so perfectly together.

What's more is that it's so SIMPLE and yet it communicates everything we need to know about these characters. Luke Wilson is in love with Gwyneth Paltrow. So effective.

  • My favorite scene of the film. Wes Anderson doesn't need original pieces of music for a film to work the cinematography in with the music. He weaves them so perfectly together.

    Incredible moment.

  • wes anderson is so great. his cinematography is so Kubrick-ian and he really understands the importance of music choice and he knows how to do it so well. master of the scene

  • muito amor nessa cena

  • please upload this entire movie onto youtube. I know the corporate shitheads will take it down and we won't be able to watch it, but this movie just makes me happy!

  • Thumbs up if this song plays whenever you see your lover from far away walking towards you.

  • chills, absolutely every time

  • Can the score to a Wes Anderson please be the soundtrack to my life?

  • Is that Alec Baldwin narrating?

  • @cepson Yes it is

  • @cepson yes

  • Margot is such a femme fatale

  • @TeaCraving ;)

  • "I forgot that I'd licensed them to use this song. And this is one of those things that comes to you in the mail and you don't know what they're talking about and you simply give them their permission. You're sitting in the movie theater and there's this great moment when Gwyneth Paltrow is coming out of a bus or something like that. I'm thinking to myself, I used to play the guitar just like that. And then the voice comes on and it's Nico singing 'These Days', which I played on. - J.Browne

  • Really creative background stuff

  • most beautifully shot sequence in film history

  • They are both so quietly in love and and still you couldn't tell if you didn't already know.

  • Alec Baldwin narration is sooo smoth

  • @giuliorasi i dont know if its smoth but its definately smooth

  • @ragingbull2001 and i don't know if its definately smooth but it's definitely smooth

  • As always, she was late.

  • My favorite scene of the movie.

  • Every time I look at Margot Tenenbaum I want a cigarette

  • there's something about her telling him to stand up straight, to get a good look at him.. :(

  • Always makes me cry! so romantic and imperfect but completely perfect.

  • Great Nico's song. Fantastic scene.

  • justin beaber a had to say it :D

  • I have that haircut and I just realized why.

  • Richie got some baller luggage. Something with luggage and Wes Anderson

  • Gipsy Cab

  • That was so beautiful.

  • Such a beautiful scene.

  • I always hold my breathe at 0:37, right before Nico takes it away

  • @pontso So does Richie.

  • i always hold my breathe at 0:37, right before Nico takes it away

  • For some reason, I get the feeling that he likes that she was late, because Richie loves the way she was and wants her to be.

  • this is what i want to hear when i fall in love ♥

  • Truly a great movie moment. A scene that will always stand out in my mind, because of the music.

  • This is what movies should be like! Thanks for sharing it!

  • Poesia pura!

  • I did some colour adjustment to this clip. Let me know what you think.

  • I've never seen Gwyneth Paltrow more beautiful than in this film.

  • @JBrrou I've never seen Gwyneth Paltrow since this movie.

  • @JBrrou can't go wrong with iron man though

  • I want to be this scene

  • I live in a Wes Anderson movie.

  • i wish this movie could have been a t.v. series. i would watch that shit every goddamn day.

  • thanks! prolly the best scene in the movie!! <3

  • I just cried in my pants.

  • I wish this scene would never have ended. When I was younger this was my first introduction to true cinematography.

  • I love his movies

  • why is wes anderson so damn awesome? I love the man!! This is such a great scene!!

  • Margot's hair slowly cascades through the slight breeze, a somewhat stark expression implanted on her face. Wes Anderson forged quite the masterpiece!

  • @DangerousEn You sir are a lyrical wordsmith. You should do reviews!

  • her reaction at :40 you can almost feel the butterflies in your own stomach

  • love this scene

  • It's the little things man. Wes Anderson really knows how to set up a shot and make it look beautiful. 1:12 with the sailors in their white suits walking behind Richie with the bags and suitcases all sprawled out on the ground. So great. And how Margot's body is standing right next to the words "Green Line" so that she doesn't block them but almost does. Film is great because little things like that make a huge difference, even though consciously we may not notice.

  • the song matches perfectly

  • this scene kills me. it's amazing.

  • Best play ever, man.

  • I watch this movie when I'm sad.

  • this is such a beautiful scene (and film) it makes me cry.

  • perfect

  • That the *ONLY* scene in the whole movie you can actually see Margot smile.

  • I am in love with this movie and always will be.

  • I wish I could play this on my ipod - it says the Author of this video does not allow playback on ipod :(

    Its my favorite scene.

  • anacephalics

  • It always amazes me: when I watch something on YT that is so sublime, so inarguably awesome I am just blown away, and yet, somehow, there are always ppl, like the 13 (so far) anacephalics here, who will click 'dislike'.

  • I can not describe in words how much I love this scene.

  • "as always, she was late" SO FUCKIN' TRUE!

  • I wish I was this scene.

  • I get goosebumps every time I watch this <3

  • this scene always reminds me of me and my girlfriend. we've been off and on for 13 years now. i love you baby!

  • I want to live in a Wes Anderson movie.

  • @MidGroundInertia you want to live in a world of forbidden love, quirky families, great music, and crazy cinematography

  • @greatgooglymoogly12

    YOU KNOW IT!

  • @MidGroundInertia me too!!

  • @MidGroundInertia you do

  • @Bulldog22031 Good answer.

  • @CaitrosebudMusic To quote Margot, "I know it was." ;)

  • @MidGroundInertia I want to live in this scene... everything is so perfectly perfect.

  • @MidGroundInertia

    I used to...it was great.

    I miss it.

  • @MidGroundInertia me too!

  • He says nothing, but so much at the same time.

  • This clip transcends. It makes me think I missed something in life.

  • I like how even the comment war below Wes' work reflects its appeal to the slightly more intellectual citizen; people pay attention to proper punctuation and spelling when they insult each other^^

  • I love that Wes Anderson thought of this scene, and then wrote a script around it. Seriously, this scene is the inspiration of the whole movie.

  • @broadwaymelody33 Wow I never knew that, this is the scene I always think about and wonder how he fit in into a movie.

  • this movie is just EPIC

  • .......Fuckin' Wes Anderson

  • Wes Anderson you are a genius.

  • @dfrmkdxnvfdx That's an understatement :)

  • @dfrmkdxnvfdx Correction: Wes Anderson IS genius.

  • I dont get it?

  • there have been a lot of great movie scenes... but this is the best of them all. hands down.

  • @villeppi

In starting a Youtube fight, you have reached the highest possible level of lame. Why don't you go punch some preschoolers in the face, big tough guy.

  • @villeppi

    Nobody here cares. Move on.

  • @villeppi

We're all blubbering fools. You're right about everything. Now go away.

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi Villeppi, this is not a logic class. Stop being a condescending douche bag.

  • @villeppi Villepi, Your comments consist of high level critical analysis and your reasoning is perfectly sound!

My it is so refreshing to see someone who truly understands the intricacies of film-making amongst all these "fanboys".

Your argumentative skills are astounding, managing to incite anger in so many people again and again with little mention of what your original point was and an obvious lack of common sense!

I admire your ability to ignore any relevant arguments against you.

  • @manbearwolflion The way in which you use such amazing vocabulary yet fail to say anything insightful or interesting is truly marvellous.

I mean WOW being a pedantic fool Is hard for some.. but you really have it down to a T!

I am completely won over by your argument and believe that a scene which, due to lack of dialogue, does not read well in a script, must be considered to be void of meaning and/or significance. This is right yes?

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi thanks for not noticing the fact I was mocking you.

and for criticising what you said in the first place...

  • @villeppi Love you villeppi.

    Good luck.

  • Everything truly is better in slow mo...

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi Thats just how you see it. And maybe they did just film a track, slow mo it, and called it a wrap. Regardless of that the editors ended up creating the perfect scene for Margot and the tennis player. Its the very essence of two cynical and akward lovers who will not, or cannot admit that they love each other. You may be right, but they ended up making something that eveyone can relate to.

  • @villeppi Wow. Way to be an arrogant cunt.

Who are you to say what movies SHOULD be like?

You are not worth a reply.

    Hip music? hahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi wait.. so your angry that a scene in a film is popular despite being boring in the script?

So it cant be amazing if it isn't as amazing to read.

    ...

I leave you .. as a stupid cunt.

    continue raging on youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi you are such an arrogant asshole, quit trying to sound overly educated on youtube. Go ahead preach to the choir, have a rebuttal that will truly be pointless. I hate people like you, pretentious fuck.

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi also if you look in my context, i never said you were wrong. I said you were a pretentious arrogant asshole, who likes to stir up pointless arguments on a youtube page that you are watching for some odd reason? Just to have a rebuttal and sound like a genius to a bunch of people you will never meet. You are an idiot.

  • @villeppi With your original argument, you somehow fail to realize that there is more to a scene than style and substance. Also that's a dumb fucking way to break down a scene. You fail to realize that substance can be measured by more that simply the amount of dialogue and interaction among characters in a scene. The attention to detail in the scene such as the 5 men in white walking in the background gives it more than enough substance. So your argument is fucked from the beginning.

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi Back to my main point, even if your definition of substance were even close to correct and not the most close-minded definition in the whole fucking world, a mood is created by what is happening in the scene and what the movie has already divulged to the audience about the relationship between the two characters. The scene's ability to create the pitch-perfect mood while only using a small amount of dialogue is what makes it such a transcendent and mind-blowing scene.

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi Your breakdown of style and substance is completely incorrect and flawed. You could use identical lighting, shot angles, music, etc.(all of which make up the style in which the film is shot) and have a completely different scene that has a completely different mood if the people, expressions, body language, and dialogue were changed.

  • @villeppi Style and substance are so deeply intertwined in art of any kind that to separate them completely then assess something is essentially taking all validity away from your assessment. You need to try to be more open minded when dealing with things that have artistic value. Right now you are acting like the person who says Joan Miro isn't a good artist because his art is abstract and not difficult to make technically speaking.

  • @villeppi I'll admit you argue intelligently and like a politician. You breakdown the scene into two categories and say it is only considered good because it has alot of one of these things(in this case style). You then proceed to place anything that doesn't fit into either category or straddles the line between the two into the "style" category and use it prove your point further. You are debating well because you are a good debater not because your points are valid or correct.

  • @villeppi Unfortunately, you can't use debate tactics too effectively when talking about art because art and the analysis of art is often abstract and can't be placed broken down into little pieces and organized that way other things can.

On a different note, Would I be wrong in saying that you think people overappreciate Wes Anderson's work because of the style in which he does it and not what he is actually doing?

  • @villeppi fuck you are beyond stupid!

Keep proving yourself to be the arrogant self important asshole you are.

What are you achieving by saying any of this bullshit?

  • Comment removed

  • @villeppi yeah keep repeating "style over substance"

If you understood the relationship between the two characters maybe you would realise why this scene is very very good.

You sound almost jealous that this scene has a widespread appeal.. I genuinely feel sorry for bitter people like you. That is your opinion. Dont force it on to everyone else just because you have some warped idea of self importance.

Have you even seen the film? Are you under the age of 16?

    resorting to excessive swearing..ha

  • Slickest scene in the movie. I can relate to this shit. Is this the Enmore Theatre?

  • "... As always, she was late."

  • Comment removed

  • Luke Wilson has such sad, puppy dog eyes, yet I felt the glee he felt as he watched her.

  • ya, can't imagine a better song for a scene..

  • My favorite song ever. I adore this scene :)

  • Arguably one of the greatest films ever made.

  • Adoro questa scena

  • I'm not alone! I thought that I was the only one who really loved this scene and felt it on a deep emotional level. We are not alone!

  • This is the greatest scene from the greatest movie. Perfect, Wes Anderson, you're amazing.

  • i like how the scene starts off and it looks like there at an air port, then they move to the left and there at dock with a huge boat, then but in reality hes there for a bus. its like each few seconds is a downgrade until he is back down to earth and off his celebrity cloud.
