Elves were a great choice at the Past Chance Qualifier, but one of them didn't deserve it. Got some guy DQ'ed in order to move on in the rounds.

Why does that mean he didn't deserve it? If the opponent needed to cheat to win, didn't getting the DQ just give him a win he "deserved" anyway?

amen. play by the rules or go home. I am happy when i see someone get called one cheating. Judges are not out it nitpick. they are out to stop cheaters. They train for that

That's right. There is some BS unspoken feeling that getting someone DQ'd is a bad thing to do, IMO it's the only thing to do if someone is cheating. Players really hate when they pass priority then want to take back a bad play too. Even after they refuse to let you take anything back. Magic is full of cheaters and people that only look out for themselves. I DQ as often as necessary for the good of the game.

I suppose I put it incorrectly. What you say is true. It's just that sometimes a DQ on a silly misplay could be the only thing to save him from losing the round. It's viable strategy to win, but it does not give an accurate read on the deck. It was obviously a good deck, but something like that could keep another deck from taking his spot.
