@10ccalanarkush loop and lil were two parrots he owned. this man is an american treasure. him and doc watson would make me trade my canadian citizenship in. a true treasure for all
@zombieman62 It is honest this way......Jazzing something up and glamorizing it ruins the entire point.....love cannot be jazzed up it it is uncensored straight from the heart.
The thing I love about Townes is he was born rich and gave it all up for his art. Unfortunately his alcoholism had a huge part in his demise. Townes was not huge in pop culture he did better than that he was a super star amongst his peers that is what makes a man.
I want to say this is 1995 in Amsterdam , not positive, saw the movie about his life last night. Checked it out from the library. Great movie, pure genius. I love this guy. R.I.P Townes.
this man paints images with a palette of words and sentiment that conjurs the most simple and profound emotion that words and music can emote. brilliant, subtle, and forever. rest in peace brother.
Wow,. After listening to this version, I realized for the first time that I feel the same sentiment for a person. Man...That's how you know someone is really good; when their song or whatever kind of art it is makes you do something like that.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Don Williams version. But after hearing this version, I can't understand why the "hollywood" aspect of the music industry thinks every song needs to be spit and polish. This is beautiful. It's not beautiful despite the low production value. It's beautiful because of the low production value and because it doesn't need over-production to sound great.
Completely agreed. And the fact that the music and the lyrics came from this man's great heart and mind makes it beautiful, just like nearly all Townes' songs.
@Crackhouts Well sadly they are both gone now but I have to agree -- you gotta give a nod to the composer on this one. Plain but pure, lyrical and beautiful. Townes was born into wealth but something drove him to a life that burned intensely -- yet that flame was ignored by most. After it burned out they saw what they had lost. I was lucky enough to see him once. But his life story is a familiar one I guess. Interesting that this song is in the in the key of B.

They don't know what good songwriting is, that's why, that a great song can stand on it's own with just a guy and his git fiddle, or even acapella

@Crackhouts you should hear the doc watson version, townes said of it that it blew his mind
