  • this passenger train is heading west to the Rennselaer Station. 3 per day lately. And about 13 CSX freight runs a day.

  • That's the Lake Shore Limited.

  • ah - i miss that sound!

  • This train is south bound - probably from Albany, NY, to Penn Station, NYC.

  • I grew up in this town - this train is westbound going to Albany.... from Boston...

  • If I'm not mistaken, the next stop would be in Hudson. After that, Rhinecliff, Poughkeepsie, Croton on Hudson, Yonkers, etc.

This would be southbound - please let me know if I have made a mistake. Thanks -

  • You have the right stops - just not on this track - this one going through Chatham runs east-west. I know the route you are thinking of, but that runs north-south along the Hudson River. Chatham hasn't had a train running north south through it for many decades - since the Harlem and Rutland Railroads. It used to be a big railway hub... with trains coming from all directions.

  • Thanks for the correction. To the extreme left, after the train passes, is the old Harlem line connection. The tracks still exist, for maybe about a 1/4 mile.

Unfortunately, this Amtrak caught me off guard when it came through, and I was not able to get the shot of the turn out in the scene. The last freight to pass over the upper Harlem division was in 1975 ( I think ).

  • Lake Shore Limited. Was this eastbound or westbound?
