Was wondering what kind of slushie/icee flavors are popular all around japan?! I like alot different asian import drinks like Yeo's green tea and such! Nice vids btw. :)
Oho,Lawson is my favourite!Or Daily Yamazaki, cause it has all sorts of crazy food!I bought a thing at Lawson,I thought it was a daifuku buuut...It was just pure anko covered in a strange white topping...I ate the whole thing though...
Do they have Universe and Homac in Tokyo and if not what is their version of them? We had them when I lived in northern Japan and next year I'm moving to Tokyo so I'm wondering.
When i was in Tokyo i lived in Gotanda so i always went to PORoROCO conbini to get what i needed. I always bought Suntorys Dakara, love the taste of that one.
Ahhh i remember living in Japan on a American air force base :), there was an 7-11 right outside the main gate. I'd always walk there and get lunch, pre order a ps1 game, or buy Magic the gathering cards in japanese xD
My favorite combini was near Asakusa - a 7-11. We entered hot, exhausted, sweating, and found a modest paradise. PERFECTLY clean, bathrooms available, sweet shopowners, DELICIOUS LUNCH FOOD - I just couldn't believe it, compared to our 7-11s at home (sorry, 7-11) with all the disgusting food (realm of dark passions, I call it, a place to indulge the bad habit). Every now and then I think about that wondrous 7-11...
2nd favorite: A Family Mart in Nakano. Very nice boys working there.
I also live in Ikebukuro and I was just commenting about the Family Marts to my friends. We were looking for in a particular place and I almost laughed when the person giving us the directions told us it was between two Family Marts.
Bahaha, your reaction to the final fantasy drink. Mmm...I've never been to japan before but I've had a lot of weird asian drinks ~.~ Aloe tastes like grape juice though. Also, you remind me a lot of nicholas cage o.o
Don't have a favourite conbini but have to say i loved milk tea the best. The cups of iced coffee were pretty awesome too. For soda flavours pepsi nex was pretty sick.

Okay, first post hre on youtube. :) I'm following your videos since quite some time and I love them. I just have one question about the conbinis and supermarkets in tokyo in general. I was in Japan last year for about a month and in tokyo I couldn't find a "real" supermarket so I always bought my stuff at the conbinis. Which was great of course, but I wonder: Where are the "real" supermarkets? Like Walmart etc? Is there anything like that in Japan?
@Hansminister I don't know what "real" supermarket means, but the number of supermarkets has been decreasing in the urban area, especially after 1990. If you stayed in the central area of Tokyo, it is normal that you don't see any of them. Conbinis, department stores (called "Hyakkaten") and various specialty stores are dominant there. Supermarkets locate mainly in the suburb, and local people usually go there by car. (btw Walmart acquired Japanese supermarket chain "Seiyu" a few years ago.)

I'd have to pick Lawson only because in the past 15 years and 3 apartments I've lived at, Lawson was always the closest. But at the end of the day, they're pretty much all similar, and I'll just go to the closest one. And also Sunkus doesn't accept my Mitsubishi UFJ ATM card.
haha convenience stores in japan are like coffie shops in washington. i swear, i saw two starbucks right across the street from eachother with some other mini cofie shops on each corner! and theirs alot of competition, cuhz i once saw girls serving coffie in bikinis!
It's called a soda suicide. You have to splash everything in the fountain in your cup, until full, then you drink. It's awesome, unless there's something like Fanta and hi-c in it. Cause that can get rough.
I think a person could survive perfectly well eating exclusively from combinis in Japan.........Although if you exclusively ate from American convenience stores you would probably only live a few months at best before you keeled over.
@choi4816 actually....if you go to the south. convenient stores are half restaurants. thats why we are so fat. I live between two gas stations with delicious fried chicken and veggie melody. mmmMMMMmmmm (this is why we're fat)
I don't know if I ever saw a Seicomart in Tokyo or not, but I am in Sapporo right now and they seriously have the BEST melonpan I have ever tasted. Maybe they aren't in Tokyo, so if anyone ever goes to Hokkaido, GO TO SEICOMART
Holy Shit! I wish American convenient stores are that awesome. That would really save me the hassle of getting money orders and going to the post office to mail my bills. I guess US banks have online bill pay now, but I still can't pick up munchies while I pay my bills at the same time. Oh forget about getting Diamond Backs tickets. I have to got across town to get tickets. Also, I WISH our cell phones are as awesome as Japanese cell phones too!
I like Lawson Mart and thought they had good bentos! In general the coolest thing from all the convenience stores was the ability to take your luggage and have it shipped to your location of choice. It was a great covenience not having to take my luggage around the trains and have it already at the hotel when traveling througout Japan. The service was cheap and always delivered as promised. I think it's called tokubin???
Just got back from 10 days in Hachinohe, Sendai, Yokohama and Tokyo, and I have to say my favorite combini is the 7-11 chain, mainly because of the 7 Holdings ATMs which take my bank's card, and because they're everyfreakingwhere. I guess my second favorite would be the AM-PMs for the drink section, and third would be Lawson's for their food section.
Conbinis are the greatest invention in the world. They have everything under the fricken sun, I mean tabacco with toys, lip gloss and other random cute shit you dont need. The thing I hate about conbinis are they dont have ibuprofen. I love Azuki Pepsi. I usually just go to which ever conbini is the closest to me at that given time. Usually 7/11 because it is near my house. Sorry to cut this short but I am off to Makuhari for a 20km walk.... Why... wtf am I thinking....
Yeah the conbini is a very natural place to be in daily life in Tokyo. I do usually go there at least once a day for something. It is hard to pick a favorite, but 7/11 is good for me since my American ATM card works there to pull out cash haha. Living here in Shinjuku ward though I think Lawson is the one I see the most. I see a lot of Family Marts also. The closest to my home is actually an am/pm so I go there the most. In fact talking about it made me realize I need to go get a few things.
I lived in Osaka when I was in Japan, so 711 and Lawson reigned supreme. I really ended up liking pocari sweat, lemon tea, and tuna mayo onigiri. The fresh breads and sandwiches were nice too. :]
one of the things i promised to do before i die was learn japanese and actually go live in Tokyo :D I'm starting my japanese lessons in around two months :P I just hope by the end i've finished my post graduate and my military service i will be able to speak in a decent manner :)
@azaas I have many Japanese friends but I only know like a few sentences in Japanese. I have heard that it´s really expensive to live like buy or rent an apartment in the city of Tokyo. I live in a small town where all stores close before eleven. I miss the convenient stores that have opened 24/7 and they have like many different things there in the small stores.
I like em all..... they all have beerIIII :) Where I am from in Vancouver, Canada you have to go to off sales or BC Liquor Store to buy this product. The food is also great at Japanese Konbini (high quality)..... here in Canada the food at such places as 7 Eleven or Macs bites the big one!!
BEST FOOD AT 711 is CGC brand Fruit Jelly, followed by Meiji brand if available. This is by far the best food I've ever bought at any convenience store. The Family Mart in China sells Bar-B-Que chicken feet in shrink-wrapped pouches
good vid. i prefer 7-11, but most of the time i go to the closest store around. i was walking by a circle k with the original logo (most are called sunkus), and the people i was with were like what is this k store? i was like it's circle k, don't you know bill and teds?? the little drinks with nicotine Ripobitan D and the squeezable jelly vitamin drinks being very memorable. But mainly I like to get a can of beer which makes the 10 minute walk to the station more fun. combini skills +1
They sell manga too!! And all these anime toys!! Ive been in Japan for a week and conbinis are awesoooomee!! Its so weird how they sell hot coffee next to the cold ones in the fridge! :D and thats so funny about family mart its like the ABC store in hawaii.
@tokyocooney oh my god yeah they are so good. I was starving to death in an osaka subway station on my last trip, and bought the first thing i pointed at (happened to be a green meronpan). seriously, then occured an actual party in my mouth. tasted like bubble gum and bread had been genetically spliced. good times
@Fuzex91x I agree the 7/11 melonpan tastes a lot better in my opinion also. I also like the egg sponge cake type things. My local conbini doesn't always have them so I can't remember exactly what they are called.
I have been in Tokyo for 3 months...living in Akasaka.Loved the video you do a great job explaining life here for an expat.Within a few blocks of our apt. is Lawson's, 7Eleven & Family Mart. I have to say Family Mart is my favorite. Keep the videos coming I enjoy them alot!
As for conbini thoughts, AM/PM has definitely been my spot the times I've visited the Rising Sun. Phone cards mostly and experimenting with Japanese confections. But by far my favorite experience has been ready-to-eat unagi in the snack food aisle of the conbini. Broiled eel.....in a box.....from a convenience store.....this only works in Japan :-)
Stores conbini, for me, a great mother, for those who do not have much time to cook, and just pass in a conbini, and there'll be all ready for you. Sometimes there are things to be known even if it's good ... have to eserimentar variety of beverages, especially to get to the ideal and the combination of food and drink to your liking. A note: you are very good in this video, its style every day this better. Always follow so this style, you're very well.
My favorite is 7/11. For some reason I found their onigiri's the best. Now that I think about it maybe just because it was closer to my grandma's house. However, the people that work their welcome me back when I go back in the summer.
Why can't convenience stores be that awesome in America? Well, one reason is that lazy Americans drive everywhere, and people walk a lot in Japan and it's much easier to pop in a store when you're walking instead of driving. The conbini in the USA depends on people stopping for gas or the toilet, and getting a little business. In Japan, it's part of everyday life to stop in the conbini. I love Japan, I feel so tall when I'm there.
We seem to be partial to AM/PM. I love those steamed buns with the meat / shitake mushroom stuffing inside that they have in the glass case at the counter. I forgot what they're called, but I buy at least 1 per day. CONBINI's ROCK!
I didn't have a favorite, but I visited 7/11 most of the time because it had a ATM that worked for me.
At any conbini they had meals they warmed, I usually took the chicken or the one with the sausage and hamburgers with rice, those two were delicious. And my favorite item in any conbini would be the waffle icecream with a cream and a small about of chocolate in the middle of the icecream. I think it costed about 95 yen or so. I ate like 5 each day <3
lol. Sometimes I wish that was true. Then maybe some people would leave me alone. Anyways, I've never been to Nebraska (Thats near the mountains right? I don't even know... sad)
I would have a hard time selecting the flavor bread of the day...
O tho I feel that Kyoto has a smaller density of conbinis if I cant pick the 99 yen shop I would have to say 7/11 due to the fact that only they had ATMs where I could withdraw a substantial amount of cash.
I've wanted one of those elixir drinks, just to collect. ...But now that i find out that it's some cheap drink that costs 10 bucks...I'm thinking otherwise. I'd think you'd at least get some glass bottle to drink out of, with a bow tied on the top of it. How cheap.
Hmmm, I think the conbini of my choice is Seicomart... Maybe because it's the nearest where I live now. The have this aaaaaawesome bento I have to get every now and then, and Seicomart usually offers ichigomilk that I've become addicted to. .....but they haven't had it recently, so I have to get it from 7/11 which is further away and where it's more expensive! =_=
The cobini in Japan are very cool! I've never had such great customer service. There was a 7-11 by my hostel in Asakusabashi, Tokyo, and I stopped there almost every day. I had a nice little breakfast for like 450 yen and off I went!
That brings back memories when I was younger of mixing up drinks at the 7/11; most of them tasted awful or my friend filling up his Big Gulp with Slurpees.
During my short stay in Japan the conbini am pm saved my life many times. I used to buy a pack of onigiri with different flavors for my day trips around Tokyo and Kyoto. So there you go, the best conbini and best product :)
I live in New Zealand, and we've got one on every street. But nowhere near the amount of variety.. I've got about 10 within 1-5 minutes walk.

good vid. i prefer 7-11, but most of the time i go to the closest store around. i was walking by a circle k with the original logo (most are called sunkus), and the people i was with were like what is this k store? i was like it's circle k, don't you know bill and teds?? the little drinks with nicotine Ripobitan D and the squeezable jelly vitamin drinks being very memorable. But mainly I like to get a can of beer which makes the 10 minute walk to the station more fun. combini skills +1

Sunkus was my fav. I enjoyed their fried chicken.

@tokyocooney oh my god yeah they are so good. I was starving to death in an osaka subway station on my last trip, and bought the first thing i pointed at (happened to be a green meronpan). seriously, then occured an actual party in my mouth. tasted like bubble gum and bread had been genetically spliced. good times
superjared 1 year ago
yip, that was meant to be a reply to the melonpan discussion. oops.
superjared 1 year ago
@Fuzex91x I agree the 7/11 melonpan tastes a lot better in my opinion also. I also like the egg sponge cake type things. My local conbini doesn't always have them so I can't remember exactly what they are called.

Sorry to hear about your friend Roger.

Since the Japanese 7/11 chain bought out the American 7/11 chain, would that make it the 七/十一?
Keyekan 1 year ago

Any 99 yen shop would allways do the trick.
I would have a hard time selecting the flavor bread of the day...
O tho I feel that Kyoto has a smaller density of conbinis if I cant pick the 99 yen shop I would have to say 7/11 due to the fact that only they had ATMs where I could withdraw a substantial amount of cash.
Saved my ass a few times ^^

I've wanted one of those elixir drinks, just to collect. ...But now that i find out that it's some cheap drink that costs 10 bucks...I'm thinking otherwise. I'd think you'd at least get some glass bottle to drink out of, with a bow tied on the top of it. How cheap.

technically, elixirs always have alcohol in them or it wouldn't be an elixir... lol
