How come there was so few goals? Me and my buddy played this yesterday and we did like 10 goals each in one match. Or was it Ice Hockey for the NES? I'm not sure, I was so stoned.
The best of the NHL games IMO, great gameplay and I used to love poring over the stats. I'd love for EA to give it a graphical polish and put it up on Xbox Live Arcade. They won't though, because it would take away sales from the (in many ways, inferior) games they peddle every year. Might have to see if I can emulate this.

It was all about the straight breakaway, the slapper from the blue line, and especially the one-timer. Also gotta love the Sega version of "Brass Bonanza". :-D

I do dekes, one-timers, slapshots from the circles and all that jazz. I try to do a bit of everything in these games since the goalies are tougher from '96-98.

With a right handed player on a break come up on the goalies left. It will take you a few tries to get it right, but if you cut in front of the goalie with enough speed and time your backhand so youre shooting it at the last possible moment as you cross its damn near unstoppable. Even goalies with a perfect rating with get beaten 90% of the time. It works on the other side just as well if you time your slaphot right. I dont know how to post vids or I would show you but youll get it. Good luck

just beat the computer 60-44, and i played the entire game WITHOUT MY GOALIE, lol!! lindros had 25 goals, and i had 556 body checks (my record is 581 though).
nhl 96 rules. but it's soooo easy. right now i am trying to win a game without a goalie. i pull my goalie before the start of the 1st period and just play. i have come kinda close but haven't won yet...
low slapshots, go in most of the time, onetimers good too. i used to keep the stats for my team and try to beat the following season, best i did was like 230 points with steve larmer lol.

2K series are the spiritual successors of the old NHL on SNES/Genesis. 2K are more arcade and EA todays are more simulation.
