@NWO41508 That's because back in the early days of rap, they used to do this little thing called "sampling". Rap producers would take snippets of old songs . . loop that beat . . and make a song out of it. A lot of your hip-hop pre 1995 was made by sampling snippets from older songs.

So yes . . the beat and melody that you're hearing is straight from Mtume's 80s R&B hit "Suga Free".
