You see 4 different Silent Hills in this movie, the way it was in the past before the burning, the way it is now when they are looking for Rose, the foggy/ashy version which is inbetween the real world and Alessa's world which is where Rose and Sharon are trapped, and then their was the darkness which is the world Alessa and the demon/or dark part of Alessa created out of her hate.

I have been searching so long, finally i found it.

i have seen alot of thoughts below that people have had about why sharon and rose are stuck in the "other world" so i thought i would give mine, However there exists a pinhole in the plot and rules of the world they created as i see it. in both the game and movie they imply that alessa as absolute dominion (ie. "only the dark one opens and closes the door to silent hill" - dahlia to rose)with in silent hill, thus she decideds who goes and stays.

why is rose and Sharon still in the "fog" world? thats wat confuses me the most. it was funny when me and my mom watch this movie and the next morning there was actually fog....me and my mom were shocked

if you still dont understand why the fog is still there is because the whole time rose and sharon were dead they were trapped in silent hill.. silent hill could be reffered to heaven or hell

I think I know what it is: Our dear friend here recorded the song directly from the film and the ripping sound you hear is the Jeep passing through the snowy bridge.

You can also hear part of the conversation at the beggining, when she talks to her husband by celular (or so she thinks) and she says: "We're going home".

That's all. Oh, beautiful armonic song indeed!!! Reminds me of peace and security like the rooms with the boxes at Resident Evil!!!!

But belive me, it it the tyres from the Jeep scratching on the snow when they travel at speed. I've seen the film and I am completely positive about that. ;)

If it were ash, the atmosphere would be darker and the tyres wouldn't sound like that on the road.

On the other hand, the perpetual smoke would make a lot of sense.

But it's quite contradictory. You don't see particles of ash floating into the air, and if it were, wouldn't be coughing both of them??? Of course, I mean at the end, the Jeep scene.

It's obvious that what fills the atmosphere in Silent Hill is ash. But in the outskirts at the end...

Hmnnn, "spirits"... You mean they both really died but they never noticed??? wow, what a turn of events XDD. That would also be a cool explanation I never came to. Yeah, GOOD POINT!!!

Now I think about it, they seem to survive but they appear alone in a blue world, husband keeps waiting forever, they arrive home but they never meet... OH MAN, THEY DIED!

However, that would be the MOST white ash I've ever seen, and wherever I go everybody speaks about it as The "Foggy" Road To Silent Hill.

The original soundtrack is called Laura plays the Piano. From the silent hill 2 game. This one is quite different sounding though.
