@dsbtreker Me too! In fact, I'm flabbergasted. This is one of my absolute favorites ever ... not just out of his stuff, but up there in my all-time favorites list. Peace, AHA
Love this song. Just bought this CD a few days ago because of this song and it is a great CD. Very soulful and a few sexy song. I couldn't help but dance around as I did my house work. Love the dancers in this video. I would love to go to a club like this and listen to great music. Thanks for posting this video
I was thinking he sampled this from Was (Not Was). Two different songs, but same title. I like Was (Not Was) "Spy In the House of Love" and this. Steve Winwood is great.
yes he is a very underated guitarist, all his music you can just chill at home or jam with ya friends and they cant help but get into it! one of my all time favorite artists!
In response to your comment. Yes, the song Spy In The House of Love was from 1997 on the CD called "Junction Seven". This CD is a very underrated and less known disc for Steve Winwood. Now, 1987 was the year after Steve released his CD called "Back In The High Life" which was a totally amazing disc from 1986.
This song's parent CD, "Junction Seven" is highly underrated! Just a few of my favorites from it: "Just Wanna Have Some Fun", "Plenty Loving", "Let Your Love Come Down", "Lord of the Street", "Real Love", "Someone Like You", & his cover of Sly's "Family Affair".
Yes, I totally agree! "Junction Seven" is a brilliant disc and very underrated!!! This disc reminds me so much of feel of "Back In The High Life" from 1986.
"In 1997, Steve Winwood released a tune which borrowed not just the title of Was (Not Was)'s single "Spy in the House of Love" but also the bass line and other elements. However, no lawsuits ensued (or were settled out of court)."
ClausEb, thanks for noting the Was (Not Was) single. Do you happen to have link to the Wikipedia article regarding Winwood's actions? I'd like to check the sources, if possible.
Unfortunately, I think the Wikipedia entry for this album (much less the single) has been deleted. I am unable to locate it anywhere on the site...even with Google's help. Alas!
Wikipedia can be edited, and often is, remember. Too much scope for bias. That statement from Wiki could have been added by a disgruntled Was (Not Was) fan.
First time I heard this -(on radio) I knew it was Stevie's distinctive voice and arrangement. I have a live upload but sound quality isn't as superb as this. Thanks for upload.

Surprised this wasn't a hit! Too classy, I guess! One great song-period!! Jeff Beck's current drummer there too, I think, Micheal Narada Walden.

I turned on the video not knowing if Winwood would be on guitar or keyboard. Always great to see and hear him with a guitar.

I agree. Eric Clapton said recently that he though Steve was a very underrated guitarist.

He stole it. Here's what wikipedia says:
"In 1997, Steve Winwood released a tune which borrowed not just the title of Was (Not Was)'s single "Spy in the House of Love" but also the bass line and other elements. However, no lawsuits ensued (or were settled out of court)."

Well sure, although: google, Sir! But here it is:
- oh ok, can't seem to be able to put links into here! - just type the phrase into google, but also says in that place: "[citation needed]"

@ClausEb - I believe Was (not Was) borrowed the song title from a book by Anais Nin

Not a different version of the same song, but a different song with the same or a similar title.
